[libreoffice-users] LibreOffice 3.5.0 Beta/ revised files won't save normally

2011-12-20 Thread Stephen Anderson
Hi Tom,
* I did get helpful responses from Pedro (pedl...@gmail.com) and NoOp (
gl...@sbcglobal.net).
* The problem I described was apparently specific to LO 3.5.0 Beta 0
(which, according to Pedro, should not even have been released).
* A few days after I wrote, LO 3.5.0 Beta 1 came out. It did not have
that particular problem.
* Thanks for following up!
- Steve A.

Hi :) Sorry if you didn't get any good answers! Did you manage to solve
the problems yourself? If not then please re-post or add a comment to your
thread at Nabble or something to bump your thread. - Regards and apols
from Tom :)

Re: LibreOffice 3.5.0 Beta/ revised files won't save normally
Hi all:
* I recently saw that LO 3.5.0 beta was available, and installed it.
* I noticed that the installation notes on FileHippo (
http://www.filehippo.com/download_libreoffice/changelog/) included the
following unusual items: - With this Beta, you have to use the 'parallel
installation' to install it alongside the stable LibreOffice, and not
replace it. - Unopkg.bin crashes during install (may prevent installation
on Windows7 and up). - Applications open a console window.
* OK so far. Unopkg.bin did crash during install, and the program does
open an MS-DOS type window.
* I had LO 3.4.4 installed previously, and did not uninstall it prior to
installing 3.5.0 beta.
* Here's my problem. Let's say I open an existing .odt or .ods file on my
external hard drive (F:), revise it, and then try to save (Ctrl+S) the
revised version.
* A box appears: Error saving the document Internet address: Access to
F:\[name of folder]\[name of subfolder]\[name of odt or ods file] was
denied. (OK button shown).
* If I click the OK button once, I hear an alarm sound that means you've
done something wrong.
* If I click the button a second time, a new box appears: Error saving
the document Internet address: General Error. General input/output
error. (OK button shown).
* If I click the OK button, the box disappears, and the file remains on
the screen.
* If I then choose Save as (Ctrl+Shift+S) rather than Save, and choose
a different destination folder or a different file name, a box appears:
The file has been changed since it was opened for editing in LibreOffice.
Saving your version of the document will overwrite changes made by others.
Do you want to save anyway? (Save Anyway and Cancel boxes shown).
* If I click Save Anyway, the revised file does indeed save in its new
location or new name.
* But this is obviously not convenient. I want to save the revised file in
its original location and name, as per normal.
* Any suggestions for overcoming this?
* I realize that this is a Beta, and that a stable version will come along
in due course to replace it, but still ...
Thanks,
Steve Anderson, Centennial, CO, USA

[libreoffice-users] Looking for Old Source for LibreOffice (OOo)

2011-12-06 Thread Stephen Anderson
Hi Joel,
FileHippo has versions of Open Office install files all the way back to
V1.1.5:
http://www.filehippo.com/download_openoffice/history/
I don't know about source codes, if that's distinct from the install files.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Looking for Old Source for LibreOffice (OOo)

Hi All,
I'm hoping someone can link me to a mirror that has old (2.0.0 - Present)
source for OOo. I'm trying to track down a bug to see how long it's been
around and hopefully to find the source of the bug but as of yet have had a
really difficult time finding the old source code. Thanks you

[libreoffice-users] Template dialogue

2011-12-02 Thread Stephen Anderson
* All the previous versions of Java Runtime Environment are also available
at FileHippo (http://www.filehippo.com/download_jre_32/).
* It's not necessary to open an account there.
* version 6 update 28 is not there either.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Template dialogue
Yes you are able to get copies of the earlier JREs.
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/archive-139210.html
It takes a little effort to find it, since they do not want you to
install the older ones.
Although they have version 6 update 29 as the newest, they do not have
update 28 in the archive.
You have to create an account with Oracle though.
To be honest, if you run Linux, I prefer to use whatever the default
JRE is. I went to the Package Manager and searched for JRE and I saw
the package called default JRE.
If you run Windows, or Linux, and do not want to create an account with
Oracle, I have most of the Windows versions downloaded, and could download
the Linux ones. Then I could send the ones you need via an off-list email.

[libreoffice-users] Demise of Open Office

Hi John,
* I'm another older person who previously used OpenOffice and now uses
LibreOffice.
* You can see a partial answer to your question at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libreoffice, under the heading Initial
release.
* Yes, I would advise you to start using LibreOffice immediately.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Demise of Open Office
I am an older person, with limited computer knowledge, using Open Office
3.3; on Win 7.
Would some Kind Soul please explain why Open Office seems to be fading away.
In Open office, I use Writer and Calc; I assume that the OOo files are
compatible
with Libre Office.
Should I start using Libre Office immediately?
Please keep abbreviations to a minimum., or at least explain the
abbreviation.
Thanks in advance.
John.

[libreoffice-users] Writer: make comment refer to selected text rather than cursor point

2011-11-14 Thread Stephen Anderson
Hi guys,
Thanks for the useful suggestions!

Since the comment will always have a single location as a starting point

completely the wrong direction for what is required. - Apols and regards

[libreoffice-users] LO 3.4.4 (Writer): make comment refer to selected text rather than cursor point

2011-11-12 Thread Stephen Anderson
Hello,
* Thanks for your advice about navigation of comments (below).
* I have another question related to comments in LO 3.4.4 (Writer).
* I would like to insert a comment that refers to some text that I have
selected (a phrase or sentence), rather than a single cursor point.
* I tried selecting the desired text, then clicking Insert/ Comment (or
Ctrl-Alt-C), but the resulting comment points to the beginning point of the
selected text, rather than the whole thing.
* Is there any way to do this? I looked at the documentation and FAQ but
can't see anything.
- Thanks. Steve A.

* Although I have LO 3.4 installed, I don't think that 3.3 was any
different.
* To insert comment, use Insert (from toolbar) → Comment. Comments are
placed on text cursor position.
* To browse comments, click Navigation (this is small circle in lower
right of LO window, right above zoom) and select Note (in lower row).
Then you can jump to next and previous note by using double-arrow buttons
above and below of Navigation button.
* If I recall correctly, in LO 3.3 there was a bug which prevented you from
scrolling document if text cursor is in note. It was fixed in 3.4.

Re: Reviewing and commenting in LO 3.3
Greetings, colleagues.
* Are there any possibilities of commenting and reviewing in LO 3.3? I
mean, how can I insert comments to the text and after that quickly browse
them?
* I would appreciate any advises.
- Best regards, Aleksey
