[libreoffice-users] Re: Style of unnumbered paragraph in a list
Regina: That works if I use the original numbering format. The problem seems to be when I change the numbering format. I change the Position format on Level 1 to Numbering followed by Space, Aligned at 0.50, and Indent at 0.00. I'm thinking this must force the unnumbered paragraph to align at the margin and not indent. Any ideas? [libreoffice-users] Style of unnumbered paragraph in a list
In Writer I'm inserting an unnumbered paragraph in a list. My default paragraph style (and default numbering style) indents the first line .5. However, the unnumbered paragraph doesn't indent. It's flush with the margin. I have to indent using Tab. Even if I set the paragraph style for the specific paragraph to indent .5 on the first line that's ignored. How can I automatically set the paragraph style to indent on an unnumbered paragraph in a list? [libreoffice-users] What's the best way to convert a .pdf form to .odt
I have a .pdf form I would like to use as a mail merge form. I see there's no way to do merge in Draw.I opened the .pdf in Draw and cut and pasted from the .pdf to a new .odt document. [libreoffice-users] Re: Writer - Tables - problem
Brian: That was some help. I turned off the alignment in the Input in Tables (under Options). Now it doesn't change the format. Thanks. I still have problems with the number format. I set the cell to currency format with a default $0.00 in the cell. When I attempt to insert additional numerals it changes the format to text. I can change it back to currency but it has no effect. In other words it doesn't insert commas. I turned number recognition on and off, but this had no effect. Today I discovered that if I completely erase the original cell content then insert new numerals it will properly format it. Go figure. It looks like I'll just have to leave blank cells in the form. I appreciate your ideas. [libreoffice-users] Re: Links in a writer document
Tom: Thanks. That's what I tried. My idea for the form was to allow the user to fill in data in a Writer table cell. Then, inside the spreadsheet I wanted to insert a DDE link to the cell in a Writer table. The spreadsheet would do the calculations for the form and generate the result. Ideally I could also link the output of the spreadsheet back to a cell in the Writer table. The problem with doing it this way is that the the spreadsheet doesn't refresh when I enter data in the Writer table cell. I tried creating the OLE object as a new Calc file, but it doesn't refresh. I tried creating the OLE object from an existing Calc file. I got some of the cells in the existing Calc file to refresh pretty well, but it didn't refresh the OLE object embedded in the Writer document. In any event, I would prefer not having two files. I would like to distribute this form. I expect potential users would be unfamiliar with LO. I expect it would be to hard for them to use it because both the files would need to be in the same directory and all the links between the files made to work. I can send you a draft of the form I'm working on to see if you might have some suggestions. [libreoffice-users] Links in a writer document
I'm working on forms that calculates child support. In Wordperfect I was able to lay it out in tables and use the table functions to do the calculations. In Writer the table functions are very limited. For example it doesn't have a function that tells when a cell is blank or one to look up an entry in a table. All those functions are in Calc. In order to be able to use the formatting from Writer it's necessary to link data from my Writer table cells to Calc and then link it back into Writer. This is quite a headache. In order to simplify this I tried embedding the spreadsheet into the Writer document as an OLE object with DDE links inside it to table cells in the Writer document. I need the spreadsheet to update automatically when data in the table cells change. To date I've had poor results being able to do this. I suppose I could write the forms in Calc, but I'm not nearly as familiar with document formatting for Calc as I am with Writer. I believe the learning curve would be steep. Can you suggest how I can make these forms work? [libreoffice-users] Re: Need simple find replace macro
Doug: My ultimate goal is to migrate from Windows to Linux. Before I do that I need to assure myself that software running under Linux can do what I've been doing in the past with various Windows programs. I'm very comfortable with WordPerfect having used it for almost 25 years. Nevertheless, like much software I only use a small fraction of its capabilities. From what I can see LibreOffice is more than capable of matching everything WordPerfect does. I expect I won't use nearly all of its capabilities. The real challenge is making myself learn how to use it. I have a lot of forms in WordPerfect that were tedious to create, such as bankruptcy and child support pleadings. I'm not crazy about redoing those in LibreOffice. Yet, if I get them like I want them I'll have mastered enough of the program that I can make a smooth migration. Change is inevitable.
