Thanks Italo, I had not known about an appimage for LO. The file is indeed odt format and opens perfectly with the appimage -- so will open a bug report in Mageia. If the file has been saved as ODS, this is strange (although there are minimal chances that the file is broken, but in any case it will be easy to recover the images as they are stored inside the zipped file). If the file has been saved as XLSX, then anything might have happened, as the format is not reliable at all. Of course, there might be a regression in the package provided by Mageia but you can easily check if this is the case by downloading the AppImage LibreOffice package - which runs on any Linux distro - to open the file. I just opened a file last saved on 10/11 (with LO 7.0.2, I believe) that did not show the embedded image and spreadsheet. It only had "image" and "object 1" in place of those items.
