Re: [libreoffice-users] Labels created in Writer shifts downward while printed
The phenomenon you describes suggests that the label size might be set wrongly. Even if the label size is set to match the published values. Maybe you should try reducing the label height by a millimeter or two, (deviating a little from the published value) Cheers Harvey On Fri, 2024-03-22 at 20:01 -0700, Richard England wrote: > Another (final) thought. Re: [libreoffice-users] Labels created in Writer shifts downward while printed
Another (final) thought. Are you using 100% scaling when printing? If there is any scaling or "fit to page" in effect that might be a problem. If that does not help I hope someone else comes along with a better suggestion. Good luck. ~~R On 3/22/24 18:19, Hartman Tam wrote: Hello Richard, Thanks for the quick response. Hello Richard, Thanks for the quick response. I tried both the paper tray and manual feed slot which both have the same problem. This lead me to believe that if slipping actually occurred, it will be the rollers deep inside the printer. Unfortunately, the printer user manual which doesn't include instructions for cleaning the roller inside the printer but the paper pickup roller serving the paper tray only. It is somewhat reassuring that these definitions are also regarded as a kind of template, even if not managed under the Templates manager. I had noticed registrymodifications.xcu when I made labels changes, but then discounted it, because it is rewritten every time LO closes. Documentation on that relationship seems less available. This will obviously require study, and now I can see a couple more intermediate steps needed to get to my goal of a labels forms library. So must become yet another addition to my to-do list if I am to get anything else done today. Still, you have once again supplied the framework for that study, so I am once again in your debt. [libreoffice-users] Labels and Business Cards: where are user definitions stored?
Under Writer, Labels and Business Cards are substantially identical functions: a page array of frames (optionally linked?) to serve as containers for printable data (text or images). [For labels, the data are typically (though not necessarily) entered via fields defined from a database.] Though these forms might be regarded as templates, they are not under the Templates manager. For several reasons, it would be nice to manage them more effectively, as a forms library. I would elaborate the reasons, but don't want to lengthen this post before getting to some basic information, like: Where are these definitions stored? Checking LibreOffice Paths, there are User Paths and Internal Paths; presumably the Internal Paths point to resources available to all users. All Internal Paths are of the form (under Windows): C:Program Files\LibreOffice\program\..\share\, where is: "autocorr" (for AutoCorrect) "autotext\en-US" (for AutoText (which is language-specific)) "wordbook" (for Dictionaries) "gallery"(for Gallery) For Templates, there are two Internal Paths: C:Program Files\LibreOffice\program\..\share\template\common; C:Program Files\LibreOffice\program\..\share\template\en-US; So "share", like "program", is a first-level subdirectory under "LibreOffice", containing 31 (possibly more) shared subdirectories. Among those are five {"autocorr", "autotext\en-US", "gallery", "template", "wordbook"} from the "Internal Paths" list, as well as 26 others NOT listed in "Internal Paths" -- but there is no "template\en-US". [By comparison with "autotext\en-US", I infer that there may be language-specific templates, but that there is no such directory as listed in "Internal Paths" because there are no "en-US"-specific templates. Does that explain it? If so, are there ANY language-specific templates, for any language? It would be interesting to see how that works.] Among the 26 shared subdirectories NOT listed in "Internal Paths" is one for "labels". That sounded promising for my purpose, but had only a single file, "labels.xml", dated 2021-09-08, so this is obviously not where my labels definitions are stored. [However, labels.xml does include definitions of business cards (and all other such cards), and I could at least edit it to put the manufacturers in alphabetical order -- small comfort. ;-) ] But that still does not expose user-defined labels definitions (which are appended when LibreOffice loads to the shared definitions in labels.xml) and I could not find those user-defined definitions. The only thing I could find under LibreOffice user Appdata, that was at least timestamp-compatible, was a file pack\registrymodifications.pack. It is a binary file, not readable, and I don't know how to decode it. Could that be where user definitions reside? If so, (a) How is that file read and edited? (b) Why are user-defined label definitions not in the same kind of XML file as shared definitions? Re: [libreoffice-users] Labels
Sylvian, DON, I have the experience, that labels is working perfect in LO 3.5. Start with a adreslist in Calc with the simple headers of Name, Zip code,City etc. And save this file, of course. Then start Writer, New, Labels Select in Edit, Change database and select one. Please, take care, that there will be a page in the Calc-file Then select in View, Source. You will be presented with a Base-copy of your selected file. Move the requested items from the database tot the label e.g. database item Once the labels items are completed, print and you will have the labels. Paul -Oorspronkelijk bericht- From: Don C. [libreoffice-users] Labels for Avery Size 5267 are not properly formatted in LibreOffice 3.5.0rc3
I have created bug 47165 - label functionality for creating Avery Size 5267 (U.S) letter no longer works (version 3.5) it did work properly in version 3.3.2. Is anyone looking into this? If you are not sure of what I mean, please see the photos in the attachment for bug 47165. Sylvain, Go to avery.com, look for the software tab, select design and print online. All the labels are there, you can import from any database, and you print on your desktop printer. It just works. Re: [libreoffice-users] Labels
Hi Sylvain, I used Word Perfect for many years. It was much better than Microsoft Word in how it handled labels. OpenOffice/LibreOffice use a very similar approach to Microsoft. In Word Perfect, if you had a list entered alphabetically, you could add or remove any individual label by simply deleting and moving the remaining ones up, or insert a new one by moving everything past where you wanted to enter the new label. In the Microsoft style, you can only add on to the end, and if you want to delete one in the middle somewhere, you deleted it, but then had a blank label if you wanted to keep things alphabetical. I presently have all of my addresses in base, and use that information for printing the labels with fields in the label form to pull in the information, letting Base putting them in alphabetical order using a mail merge in LibreOffice. Here is what I had written earlier today: Instead of using the Microsoft type templates, I would suggest that you try the table style label templates for OpenOffice. I've had no problems with them in any of the OpenOffice/LibreOffice versions, including LibreOffice 3.5.1. There was/is? an OpenOffice extension for them, but they are also available here: http://www.worldlabel.com/Pages/openoffice-template.htm If you need to adjust the left margin, simply drag it from the top and the entire column will adjust. If you need to adjust the vertical alignment, simply change the top margin of the entire page. I never have a problem with the labels towards the bottom of the page running up into the label above like with the Microsoft style. If you are using a database and pulling the information in from fields, I can send you some additional information to help you using the table style forms. If you are making a label form with the information in that you want (no fields or database, and the information is the same in all of the labels, simply enter the information in the first label. Then copy it and paste it in the other labels in that row. When that is done, then copy the first row and paste it in the second and successive rows. I actually once I have the first two rows done, copy the first two rows and paste it in the balance of the sheet doing two rows at a time. Re: [libreoffice-users] Labels
Try the template page for the North American DVD, as well as looking at the Template Center that LO has. http://libreoffice-na.us/English-3.4-installs/templates.html http://templates.libreoffice.org/template-center In the NA-DVD page, there are a few label templates here that use with OOo years ago, when I used it instead of MSO. There use to be an EXE file that added a special template manager to the Windows OOo, along with more templates, but I do not know if it ever worked with OOo 3.0.0. When I stated about using a .doc template, that is what is easiest to find. Having places, like WordLabel, having .odt templates are getting easier to find. I hate sites that give you only .docx templates. That is not the best type of site to use. The thing I tend to do is save working files of label that work for the size/shape needs I had [back when I was doing them more]. Then I would just edit the labels to the new design. Having the option to do the New/Label is good, but you really need to know pretty EXACT dimensions for the margins of the paper, as well as the label size. THEN, you have to worry about your printer's print margins. I have 3 working printers within arm's reach and I would not like to try to create all my needed labels with the New/Labels option. Actually, I tend to stick with Avery templates, if I can get then. To be honest, if you go and do a search for purchasing labels for your size, the package for those labels generally keep an up-to-date idea where you can get a template for your label or paper type. I have some tent cards that have preprinted backgrounds and the company has specific templates for each and every paper style and decoration. Finding a site that has your specific label paper needs should also have where to get the needed template for those labels. To be honest, if you can search on a company's specific label sheet number, it would be easier. Every one of my packages of labels have a compare to Avery reference number. So it is easy to search Google for sites that might have templates for these labels, other than Avery itself. If the label sheets are still in production, then there should be a ready made template for it. http://libreoffice-na.us/English-3.4-installs/templates.html On 03/24/2012 05:19 PM, Sylvain Bromberber wrote: Could you say a little more. Re: [libreoffice-users] Labels
Hi Duncan, It sounds like you have setup your fields properly in Excel, and now calc. I personally use base, but it doesn't matter. I use the table style templates available from the worldlabel.com site for OpenOffice/LibreOffice. If you are using those, do not use the label wizard, but go to insert/fields/other. In that window choose the Database Tab, then select mail merge, and drag the fields you want to your label form. Once you are done with that, in the same column as the mail merge selection choose next record and click insert. Once you have one label done, then simply copy the information from the first cell to the other cells. When you print each label should have the correct information from your source database. You will have two other issues if printing more than one page. First, a blank page will show up between each printer page. Second, one label between each sheet will disappear. Here is how to fix those issues: Hi, I don't know if this might help anyone or not. I had an OpenOffice form problem using the table template with a standard 30 label sheet (3 x 10). I have all of our Christmas card addresses in an OpenOffice database. I have the form setup, etc, to automatically pull the address information in when I click print and select the database, etc. It works great with one exception. Last year my wife said I missed having a few addresses included. I didn't think anything about it, and honestly, didn't think that was possible. This year before giving her the printed labels I thought I would check that everyone was there. I set the printing so it is sorting to print A_Z based on the last name. It takes three sheets. I have 78 names in the database, but only had 76 printed labels. What happened was when the printing went from the first sheet to the second sheet, it misses one record. The rest of the second page is fine. When I went from the second sheet to the third sheet, once again, it skipped the next label, then printed fine for the balance. When I say it skipped it, the missing record just disappears. It isn't that I end up with a blank label at the top of the sheet. The next one in line to be printed on the first label on Page 2 vanishes and the one that should be the second one on the second page becomes the first one on the second page. The same with the third page. A person would never pick this up unless checking the database against the printed labels. The solution I had one full page of labels with the fields in. I read on-line that you need one complete page with fields in for each page of labels. So I added two more pages so I have a three page template. When I created Pages 2 and 3 and by pasting the complete page 1, then scrolled up, I found there was a blank page between each label page. I deleted those pages, and I now have a perfectly working label template printing all of the address! Hopefully this will help you!! Re: [libreoffice-users] Labels
I just completed a project where I produced the 422 labels needed for a mineral museum display which started with an Excel spreadsheet of the collection. I am using LibreOffice 3.4.3 on a Win7 64 bit system. Here are the steps that I followed. Creat a database (LibreBase) using the Excel spreadsheet as the source. Open a new database. On the opening Welcome to the Database Wizard screen select Connect to an existing database and select Spreadsheet from the drop down menu. Then use the browse function to select the Excel spreadsheet file. The database will be created using the spreadsheet as data input. The column headings should become the database fields Then click on the Insert Labels button on the top toolbar. This will bring up the Label Wizard which will run thru the steps to format the labels which are now in a new LO Writer file. The formating is done only in the first label. When you have it the way you want, click on the Synchronize Labels button which will then copy the formatting from the first label to all the others. Once the labels are formatted, you use the Mail Merge Wizard which is in the Tools drop down menu in LO Writer. For some reason, LO inserts a blank page between every label page when printing. [Does anyone know why?] They will show up in the Print Preview. These can be eliminated by going into the set up for LO (MenuToolsOptionsLO WriterPrint then uncheck the box Print Automatically Inserted Blank Pages Also when you print, (Use ctrl P) open the LO Writer tab and make sure that the same box is unchecked there too. I may have forgotten some of the steps but this should help. If not let me know and will go back and run thru the steps again to see what I missed. Hope this helps you.
