Re: [libreoffice-users] PDF Extnension for Libre Office/Writer or Open Office
Hi Charles and all Others, may be you are opening an originally called "hybrid PDF"? These ones are PDF that includes original source document in the PDF "attachments" (that may be of various types... see the link below) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable_Document_Format#Technical_overview In this case if your pdf opens in Writer, as you told us, it may be the pdf contains an *odt* as attachment (from which the following Writer association...). I think you can verify if this is true by inspecting the file with some tools like Ghostscript (dump* command), pdftk, ... and see the attachments/streams/... Finally you can create your own "hybrid PDF" checking the box "Embed OpenDocument file" https://help.libreoffice.org/Common/Export_as_PDF Hope this help. Happy new year, Carlo p.s. I think it will be helpful if we decide to give a name to this kind of PDFs and, once more, to standardize them (Oasis-Open, for example). ing. No you can't! You may start in Writer, but when you open a PDF file you should observe a switch to Draw. See the title bar to confirm. > I can also insert images (from file) into these respective documents > and then print them to a PDF, if desired, or save as .odt, MS Word, > etc. I would be very surprised if you are able to save as anything other than a Draw document (.odg), or Draw template. Of course you will be able to *print* as a PDF after editing. Re: [libreoffice-users] PDF Extnension for Libre Office/Writer or Open Office
About removing blank pages, there are tools for that :) The other things, anything involving elements position, is trying to fight against the format and will always rely on black magic. Remember that while word processing software sees paragraph, a PDF sees only symbols placed on a page. Sometime these symbols are whole sentence, sometime single letters with no relation to others beside behing relatively close to each others. -- Cley Faye http://cleyfaye.net 2014-12-29 19:34 GMT+01:00 anne-ology : >oops ... nuts ... ... ... ;-) > >When I responded to his message, I was hoping there might now be a > good program which would eliminate all the gobbledegook which happens > through this method; >will there ever be a program which will allow for editing these > inane PDF files without messing up the original intent??? >one which would allow the simple deletion of those excessive blank > pages ... >the ability to fix the margins allowing for less wasted space > ... > the ability to eliminate the extraneous lines which criss-cross > throughout the document ... ... ... > > > > From: Jean-Baptiste Faure > Date: Sat, Dec 27, 2014 at 1:57 PM > Subject: Re: [libreoffice-users] PDF Extnension for Libre Office/Writer or > Open Office > To: users@global.libreoffice.org > Cc: reachmepl...@gmail.com > > > Hi, > > Le 27/12/2014 19:36, charles meyer a écrit : > > [...] > > I was reading there is an extension you can download for Open Office > > which allows you to import a PDF file and then edit that PDF file. > > > > This extension is part of the default installation of LibreOffice. is there hope that these 'pixel' issues will be corrected in the near future ;-) From: Cley Faye Date: Sat, Dec 27, 2014 at 8:14 PM Subject: Re: [libreoffice-users] PDF Extnension for Libre Office/Writer or Open Office To: Cc: "users@global.libreoffice.org" A recent installation of LibreOffice is able to open almost any PDF through the Draw module. From there, it is possible to redo the placement and extract part of the file. Note that it won't open in Writer (or other modules), and that opening a PDF for editing is not a pixel-perfect process; there can be some issues with the import (but if all you want is get a picture it's alright). -- Cley Faye http://cleyfaye.net 2014-12-27 19:36 GMT+01:00 charles meyer : > Hi All, > > I hope everyone is enjoying Christmas and all the holidays. > > I was reading there is an extension you can download for Open Office > which allows you to import a PDF file and then edit that PDF file. > > I have a form sent to me in pdf and I wish to import an image file > into that pdf form. > > Does Libre Office have a similar PDF extension? oops ... nuts ... ... ... ;-) When I responded to his message, I was hoping there might now be a good program which would eliminate all the gobbledegook which happens through this method; will there ever be a program which will allow for editing these inane PDF files without messing up the original intent??? one which would allow the simple deletion of those excessive blank pages ... the ability to fix the margins allowing for less wasted space ... the ability to eliminate the extraneous lines which criss-cross throughout the document ... ... ... Sometimes it is better to find a free PDF editor [Windows or Linux] to do the needed editing for PDF forms and other "interactive" PDF files. LibreOffice is a great office package, but it was not meant to do everything. [Unlike MSO wants to become] To do "everything", LO would become a very large install that would be too packed with options that would make it too "complex" for a lot of users, since the navigation menu[s] would be so large and layered that you could get lost in them trying to find the option you want to use. For me, I use dedicated packages for things like web page development and modification. Writer can do this, but having a package that only does HTML and web page scripting seems easier to use. I also use dedicated packages for image/photo editing and another one for "raster" based image editing. I never learned to use Draw for my needs, since I have been using other product[s] for more years than LO has been out. I use LO a lot, but like a large percent of its users, I used it for word processing [Writer], spreadsheets [Calc], presentations [Impress]. When I go beyond the "basics" of each module, I tend to fall back to both paid and free packages that I have been using for over ten years, through the original packages and their upgrades. We all choose the software that is best for our needs, one reason I choose LO. But unless you created a PDF form with Writer, I would use a package that was meant to edited PDF interactive forms. There are free ones out there. It is worth a look-see. -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
