Sourceforge, which is where Apache OpenOffice is distributed from, is notorious for offering additional software, to the point that people can, and do end up not downloading the program that they intended. All of this is in the name of advertising dollars, which is how Sourceforge generates revenue. I even removed Silverlight because I was scared of everything then. SilverLight and security are mutually incompatible. Just please reassure me I will get ample warnings and explanations of any extras. With a good selection of anti-malware tools installed, you will receive ample warnings, and explanations. Re: [libreoffice-users] Security check and 2 questions
OSX and Word? What OS are you using now? I use Windows 7 and Linux [Ubuntu and Mint]. Do not know OSX, since I cannot afford to deal with a Mac. Piers Anthony - one of the top scifi/fantasy writers - uses LibreOffice [Writer] for all of his work. He has used LO for several years now, almost since it first came out according to the info I have read a few emails replies I have had from him [been reading his work for over 25 years]. He likes to customize his word processor for his wants/needs and LO works for him. He also uses Linux. He is involved with self-publishing, print-on-demand, and e-book services. Maintains a great list of these on his web site to help new writers sort through the good and bad companies/services they might need. For the Windows install, you can do a custom one and do come choosing which options will be installed and not installed. That is what I do for any Windows system. As for Malware, and other nasties, having a good anti-virus system and malware package is important on Windows. I use the free version of Comondo Internet Suite, plus various cleaners and protectors to keep my Windows systems free of those pesky nasties. Re: [libreoffice-users] Security check and 2 questions
Hi :) Is there something like Gatekeeper or Sentinel or something that tries to make it more complicated to install LibreOffice onto Macs? I ran into trouble a few years ago but i thikn that was on a macbook or something and my memory is very hazy about it all.
