[libreoffice-users] Weird line-wrap problem in Writer
Having poked at this issue for days and being no closer to a solution, I turn to those on this list. I am doing battle with a line-wrap problem that defies all attempts to correct it. It's this (as illustrated in the small attached screenshot fragment): at the end of a line the writing jumps to the next line, not hyphenating anything (which is fine) but just simply splitting words in the middle. It was not always thus. I can't help but think that at some point I must have accidentally clicked on some configuration option that caused this to happen, but that option is not apparent to me. If I save the file and open it in something else, the words are wrapped normally, leading me to think it's a view or display issue. Anybody know how I can fix this? I'm running 7.3.7.2 / LibreOffice Community atop the TDE desktop on Ubuntu 20.04. But the problem has been around for a while. Thanks in advance. No, it's not justified. But where a line runs out and the whole word jumps to the next line, here it breaks in the middle of the word, no hyphen (and I have hyphenation turned off) leaving as little as a single letter before going to the next line. I do notice now that the offending documents seem to believe they're Japanese, which they're not. In the screenshot paragraph I sent, the word "what" is divided at w, "surrender" at surre, "brave" at bra, "involuntarily" at involuntaril (with only the y bumped to the next line), "there" at th, and "story" at st. Very weird. Is there a way to assure that the application does not take it upon itself to change countries? | Saving the file as .ODT? If not, in what format? In what did you open | it, that presented properly? Created in LibreOffice Writer and saved as .doc. Opens and siaplays fine in TextMaker, AbiWord, and Calligra, no issues. Re: [libreoffice-users] Weird line-wrap problem in Writer
The more I poke around, it seems as if the issue is related to this: https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=1035 Which is labeled as fixed, but what to do to make it work isn't specified. I need to figure out where to force it to "English (USA)" everywhere -- as I look, the offending documents are all shown as being in Japanese, even though they aren't. I occasionally paste in a Japanese character or word, though this does not seem necessary to trigger the change to Japanese -- it sometimes happens in documents that have nothing to do with Japanese. And never have I specifically told Writer I was doing Japanese. So, is there a place where I can tell it not to do me this particular favor? Re: [libreoffice-users] Weird line-wrap problem in Writer
There is no image attached. However, I've had similar wrapping issues in LibreOffice 6.3 with material I generate automatically when I set hyphenation to OFF, then turn every space into a no-break space. I don't see how that could happen while 'typing' but I have seen the issue, and you fix it by allowing breakpoints. That is turn hyphenation back on, and put in normal spaces. I haven't played with 7.3 yet, but if they now have a style that includes "no break" you either need to insert the wrapping yourself (shift-enter) or turn it off if the paragraph is longer than a single line. I've pretty well figured out that the problem here was when L.O. Writer decided to label paragraphs as being in Japanese (even though they contained no Japanese kana or kanji characters and most of them didn't even contain romaji). And if I manually return the paragraphs to English (USA) the line breaks become sane once again. What I have not figured out is a.) why this happened -- if someone were, say, to insert an English word into a document of Japanese Kana, would L.O. Writer decide the whole document is English? -- and b.) how to prevent it happening again. -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: https://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ Privacy Policy: https://www.documentfoundation.org/privacy
