You may have a look yourself:

So the error only happens when I have ALL English text and try to choose
a different language than English.

I see the same problem yes.

I think that's the correct behaviour.

Please have a look at:

Bug 32780 - Character dialog box opens when click on Tools Language For
the selection Plus..
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32780

Bug 36091 - Bringing up dialogue for a different language for
selection or paragraph only brings up text formatting instead
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/process_bug.cgi

'Bug 37919 - Clicking more on the Language Section in Writer at the bottom
bar opens up the wrong Dialog Window
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37919

Well, the 'Background' tab ...

There should be an improvement (request for enhancement?).
Currently the last selected tab (by the user) will be opened.

Better:
The 'Font' tab will always be opened (as default)
for Tools Language (Selection/Paragraph),
and for language selection in the status bar.

Thanks, I thought it must have been reported before.
I just never tried to use it with non-English language words in the text
before.

It is very nice that the system will determine what language the word
are and then give you the proper list of dictionaries installed[?] for
you to choose, i.e. which version of Spanish you wish to use.

That is the feature I want to sell to various schools labs and
computer center in the area. For a school computer lab, you can have a
student write a paper in French or Spanish and he/she would be able to
have the paper checked for spelling [and maybe grammar] without needing
it to be hand checked the way it is done now with their MS Word package
that is being used in the local school district. That feature alone
would be nice for the students to use LibreOffice over MSO. Then there
are the independent computer centers provided by housing facilities
and agency groups where there are multi language kids, and adults, that
need to have access to computer [and the Internet] since they do not
have the money to have them in their homes. Having every available
language installed would help these centers provide the services that
the people would need.

The list of languages, shown in the context menu, is dynamically
created from the following language settings and is limited to a
maximum of 7 language entries and is sorted alphabetically. All shown
languages are from the same scripting type (i.e. Asian, Western, CTL)
present in the current text selection. If no selection is present all
currently enabled script types are shown.
1. Currently set language
2. and locally set language from Tools-Options (OOo and operating system)
3. and user Interface language from Tools-Options
4. and guessed language from current paragraph
5. (optional on Windows operating systems) currently used keyboard
languages (called input languages on Windows systems)
6. and languages already used in current document (Note: Number of
languages is limited to 7 overall)
7. and ignore attribute in form of the entry “Do not check spelling[
and grammar]”
The entry for no. 7 and the More... entry are always part of that
menu, so the menu consist of a maximum of 9 entries. These entries are
always shown at the end of the menu.

[libreoffice-users] error in menu for tools/language/for selection or for paragraph

2011-06-04 Thread webmaster for Kracked Press Productions

I found an issue with

ToolsLanguageFor Selection or For Paragraph.

I am using 3.3.2 DEB 64-bit

When I try to select a language to for a selected text or a paragraph,
the link/option goes to the Character menu and to choose a background
color.

I have not tried this since 3.3.0 or 3.3.1, but I know it worked before
[it could have been the Windows version though]. It use to go to a nice
menu showing me a list or language dictionary files I had installed.
Now it just goes to the Character options.

Is this a know bug, and being worked on, or is there some issue with my
install?

OK
I think I know a little more than what is stated below.

Since English is what I have as my default language, if I do not have
any non-English words in the text selected, then I get the error.

Now when I add text that is Spanish, the options gives me a number of
different Spanish dictionaries to choose from. When I add French text
to the document, then it gives me French as an option for the text.

NICE how the system knows what languages are involved.

So the error only happens when I have ALL English text and try to choose
a different language than English.
