In them meantime I tried in Virtualbox Linux MInt: worked out of the box. Tried Ubuntu: did not work first, but offered to install some more packages which then drew in even more packages. But then worked. So I do not know what is wrong with my installation. Two questions: Do you have packman repository enabled? If yes, did you switch all multimedia related packages (mainly gstreamer and ffmpeg) to packman? Also, there are a couple of gstreamer packages with "orig-addon" in the name that are only available from packman: install them too!
