Re: low throughput
No tweaking, just configure with --with-defaults=speed. If default is debug, Kannel will fill newly allocated and freed memory with debug content (0xcafebabe, for instance). WAP Push for transaction approval
Good day, I have used Kannel in the past as a pure SMS gateway. For the last couple of days, I've been looking for a partial replacement for a SIM Toolkit application when I saw that one of Kannel's features is a WAP Push. Does anyone know what the effect is of receiving a WAP push on the mobile side? Can it only put a message in the mobile's inbox, or am I able to bring up a screen to allow a user to accept or decline a transaction. This is for a banking application, so any advice on security will aslo be of interest. asking about kannel SMS throughput
I saw your posting on kannel mailing list about SMS throughput I have problem with sms throughput, when testing kannel, check this log : SMS: received 34032 (0 queued), sent 11444 (0 queued), store size 7538 SMS: inbound 0.89 msg/sec, outbound 0.30 msg/sec DLR: 7838 queued, using internal storage Why inbound message could reach 0.89 msg/sec (does it means 89 messages per second ?) by outbound message only 0.30 (msg/sec) How to increase send sms speed (possibly without restarting bearerbox?) ? i don't make a limitation on throughput using throughput parameters at all. RE: asking about kannel SMS throughput
Hi Ady, That average (unless I'm wrong) is the number of sms's per second over the whole time bearerbox has been running - ie, it does not change if you suddenly send 10 messages in a 1 second.. In your case it means over the whole time bearerbox has been running, the average number of sms's received is 0.89 every second (ie - about 9 messages every 10 seconds). In most cases that average does not make a true representation of the actual connection speed to your operator. Kannel Message Boards?
Why doesn't kannel has its forums or online discussion boards? Don't you think that with them it will be easier to keep track of the things and help can be provided in a better way, considering the features and options present in the modern bulletin board systems Thank You
Re: Kannel Message Boards?
I don't think that they will be too resource intensive form hosting point of view, so It should not be a problem for anyone to set them up. RPM Installation
Users, I'm trying to install Kannel using the latest stable RPM release. I've followed the instructions in the user guide and get as far as installing the RPM package using the following command: rpm -ivh kannel-1.4.0-3.1.fc3.fr.i386.rpm As a result I get: warning: kannel-1.4.0-3.1.fc3.fr.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID e42d547bPreparing... ### [100%] 1:kannel ### [100%] I then try to locate: /etc/rc.d/init.d/kannel No such luck. I've even tried looking in /etc/init.d/ as per another post and still can't find it. Is it the case that the warning above is preventing the correct installation of the Kannel RPM. I usually use the the latest source and compile myself, however, this seems to be unstable on my FC 3 box. So, I'm turning to this Fedora RPM in the hope that it'll been stable. Thanks in advance for you for help. Regards, Nick

Re: WAP Push for transaction approval
Depending on the phone, a WAP Push brings up a message on the screen, asking if the user wants to see the page that is contained in the WAP Push. For security reasons, if you want to use Kannel also as the WAP Gateway, you will need the WTLS patch (secure wap, kind of like using http/s). Another note on security: a WAP Push can easily be forged by anyone. A 'malicious user' can send a WAP Push with the sender-id of the bank, leading it to a page that looks similar to what you expect, but in fact it is another page. Not all phones display the actual URL, but merely just the description that is send along with the WAP Push. Besides that, most users have WAP configured with the WAP gateway of their provider, which leaves opportunities open for a man-in-the-middle attack. Email me if you want to know more details.
