Well, you can not ping the gateway, and so you can not reach the DNS server there. The gateway is protected by its own firewall, so you have to verify its status and rules there: # iptables -n -L -v Now back to your machine in question. I have to ask you to give us an actual response to any entries we request (it may make a difference to see it, instead of your narrative like "no, it does not work"). So, please give us full/unedited output of: $ ping 192.168.64.10 $ cat /etc/resolv.conf # iptables -n -L -v JB -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines

> Seems networking should just 'come up' on a new install. >Let the user decide how to tighten up his security, Fedora >seems to be taking the opposite approach. Your setup looks fine. You said this was a new install? You shouldn't have to do anything other than install the OS. It's supposed to set up basic networking for you, without restricting you from things like browsing and updates. No restrictions in outward access to the lan and the internet, in other words. Ruling out anything wrong with Fedora 14 other than a few bugs, I think you have to focus on your nic and your modifications to config files like ifcfg-eth0. What all has been modified? The driver Fedora 14 is loading, or failing to load, can be a problem. Your ifcfg scripts have options that I've never seen before. However, you seem to understand how the scripts work, so maybe you need those options. What network card is it? What's the output of: grep -i eth /var/log/dmesg The card shows up in lspci? -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines

Re: phpPgAdmin on Fedora 13
I concur. I don't see why a PHP install would be database specific in any form or fashion. I've run the traditional LAMP platform (PHP with MySQL) for years. Hi Ranjan. For ISO images I can't dd on an usb stick I use Unetbootin[1]. It is in the Fedora repos and easy to use but has no command line interface. I have been trying to dd Ubuntu on an usb key but I doesn't work… [1]http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ Regards, Laurin -- Laurin Novak Member Of The Fedora Localization Project - German Translators Team (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/L10N_German_Team) GPG-Key-ID: 0xF4239033 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part. -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines

OT? copy live ubuntu iso image to usb for boot
Hi, OK, I guess this would be unacceptable to ask in an Ubuntu mailing list and I was trying to get help with a Fedora iso but since F15 has been pushed back to be nice to mirrors because another distribution is releasing just before the original date, I thought I would try my luck. I am a loyal Fedora user but I have to install a Ubuntu live from an ISO. So, with Fedora, I know what to do. Download the live iso image and copy to usb using the following command: sudo livecd-iso-to-disk --format --reset-mbr Fedora-14-x86_64-Live-LXDE.iso /dev/sdc and everything goes through fine, with a bootable iso image created in the process. But when I try the following: sudo livecd-iso-to-disk --format --reset-mbr xubuntu-10.10-desktop-amd64.iso /dev/sdc I get: Verifying image... The media check is complete, the result is: NA. No checksum information available, unable to verify media. Are you SURE you want to continue? Press Enter to continue or ctrl-c to abort WARNING: THIS WILL DESTROY ANY DATA ON /dev/sdc!!! Which is actually far less output and an useless (in terms of live or install) iso on the usb. It is however recognized as a iso, but nothing more useful than that. Any suggestions on how to do this with Fedora? I prefer commandline approaches. OK I thought the ellipsis was in in the middle of the time range (about 5 seconds in the time listed for the log entries)? You mean there were other log messages outside the range where there was the long delay? Either way I don't see this for i686 and am not running an equivalent 64 bit machine. So it would be useful to see other corresponding reports to see if this is only being manifest on x86_64? -- mike c -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines

Fedora says Thank You
First of all, I do not want to take any credit for this idea, it belongs to John Rose, and has been bouncing around, trying to come to life, since July 2010. I am just happy to help it finally hatch! John, Jared, Paul, Max, and I all want to thank Fedora users and contributors for everything that they do in our rich and diverse community. As a small token of our appreciation, we're giving away free Fedora stickers and case badges to any community member who sends us a Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE). It is our little way of saying thank you for all that you do. Here is a short FAQ: Q: What is a Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope? A: A Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE) is an envelope with the sender's name and address on it, with affixed paid postage. In the UK, this is also known as a "Stamped Addressed Envelope (SAE)". Q: Where do I send my SASE? A: Red Hat c/o Tom Callaway 314 Littleton Road Westford, MA 01886-4105 Q: How long is this offer good? A: We will return any SASEs that I receive on or before May 31, 2011. Q: How does this work? A: Basically, you write your mailing address on an unsealed envelope and attach paid US postage to that envelope (enough to send a letter to that address from the US). This is your SASE. Next, you put your SASE in another envelope, which you then mail to me at the above address. When I receive it, I will open your envelope, put in some nifty Fedora stickers and case badges, seal it up and drop it back in the mail to you. Q: Is there a limit on how many SASEs I can send you? A: Please, one SASE per person. If you have some sort of complicated situation, feel free to email me directly and we'll work something out (s...@fedoraproject.org). Q: Is this offer open to contributors outside the US? A: Of course! We realize that it may not be possible or simple for our international contributors to get their hands on US postage, so you are more than welcome to include an International Reply Coupon instead. (More info about International Reply Coupons can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_reply_coupon) If you choose this option, please do not forget to include the self-addressed envelope! Q: I can't find an International Reply Coupon! A: Just email me (s...@fedoraproject.org) and let me know, we'll work something out. Q: Can I decorate my SASE? A: Sure. Just remember that it will be coming right back to you. Q: Do I need to prove that I am a Fedora User or Contributor? A: Nope. If you go to the trouble of sending us the SASE, we'll send you stickers and case badges. Q: Can I tweet/dent/facebook/IRC/email/tell my friends about this offer? A: Absolutely. Q: Can I just put some money in the envelope and have you buy postage with it for me? A: No. Any money found in the envelope will go into my 1 year old son's college fund. If postage is a problem, please send me an email (s...@fedoraproject.org). Q: Will Fedora or Red Hat keep a record of my mailing address? A: Nope. All we'll do is put stickers and case badges in the envelope, seal it up, and drop it back in the mail. Q: How many stickers and case badges do I get? A: One large Fedora Logo laptop sticker (3 inch) and four small foil "Powered by Fedora" case badges. Q: What do the stickers look like? A: http://spot.fedorapeople.org/sticker-pic.jpg Q: Is this an April Fools Day joke? A: Nope. This is serious. Q: What if I don't use Fedora? A: You can still get stickers. There is no OS check involved. Q: I want more stickers than you normally give out! Can I ask for a few more? A: If you have a special situation, feel free to email me (s...@fedoraproject.org), and we'll see what can be done. Q: Is this information on the Fedora website somewhere? A: Yes: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Thank_You Q: I have a question that isn't answered here, where can I ask it? A: Email s...@fedoraproject.org. There’s some good news regarding Unity, though; the change to glew that I was waiting for arrived upstream, and ajax kindly let me patch it into the Fedora package, so once that update goes to stable, that roadblock is gone, and I can build nux, the last underpinning for the Unity stuff that I was waiting to get into place. Then I think I can actually build the Unity compiz plugin (which is all Unity really is, ultimately) and see if it flies. So that may actually go somewhere. Still no promises, though! Cant get networking working in Fedora14
I sent this several days ago, and it didnt make it to the list, Im trying again. I am just now bringing up Fedora14 (Ive been running Fedora11). Something has changed, since the way I have always done things to bring up networking just doen't work. I can setup /etc/sysconfig/network /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 either by hand or using the system-config-network script, and everything LOOKS ok, but I can not ping this machine from the outside, nor can I ping from it to another machine on the same network. The hardware is fine, since I have Knoppix running on the machine at the moment (to verify that the machine and its cables were ok) and its networking came up just fine. So, what's changed between Fedora11 and Fedora14, other than setting up the above files (or using system-config-network) what do I need to do??? My DVD reader doesn't always load....
Hi all, I appear to have a problem with my DVD reader (Gigabyte Technology 16x16 DVD rw/r). When I put a dvd in the tray, sometimes the DVD title comes up in the "recent device" window, sometimes nothing. When "nothing" comes up, sometimes the tray is locked & I can't get the disc out again. I have a pair of DVDs, produced in Germany, one plays, the other doesn't. If the disc loads, sometimes I can play it with Kaffeine, sometimes I have to use Bangarang, because Kaffeine doesn't see any start point on the disc. Then one time, Bangarang plays one disc; when I try to play a second one it crashes Anyone got any suggestions on how to try and debug this little lot?
