looks fine. The processor temperature goes up to 100°C when in use,

Known problem with the google rpm

What I do is

1. Install rpmrebuild
2. Run rpmrebuild -ep google-earth-stable_current_x86_64.rpm
3. Find the line
%dir %attr(0755, root, root) "/usr/bin" and delete it...
4. The rpm will be rebuilt will be saved for you to install.

It may also be helpful to install rpmdevtools and run rpmdev-setuptree.

It's an upstream bug, 3rd party packages should never own dirs like
/usr/bin/.

What I personally do it extract the rpm (using file-roller), and execute

/opt/google/earth/free/googleearth from terminal, I just have to install
the deps (either looking at 'rpm -qpR *.rpm' or just installing the libs
the binary complains about not finding). YMMV.

do you have to root your phone to be able to use that feature?

I have QuickOffice Pro that I bought on a cheap sale but I don't use it
much. I think it is useful for editing files on SD card or in the
simulated SD card space on built-in memory but otherwise a no-go if the
phone isn't rooted and even then, you would probably need super-su app
to give editing permissions.

of course there can be differences of opinion about what constitutes
malware and not all software will agree on the threshold. That doesn't
make one necessarily better unless you have actually analyzed what
Kaspersky identified as positive and have reason to believe that it is a
genuine threat. Generally, these positives derive from vague java cache
files that probably don't amount to much but of course we can't know
that from this anecdotal report.

A pen drive in this port is not visible even in BIOS (precisely in
EasyFlash tool run from BIOS). The same pen drive in a USB 2.0 port
works fine. In my colleague's laptop (the same model) BIOS sees a pen
drive in a USB 3.0 port, so it looks like a problem with BIOS (upgrade

the motherboard before a replacement). I reported an another service

Now I got it.. Tho does not understand what it means.. :D

[root@oh1mrr Lataukset]# ps aux |grep -i rpm
root 27225 0.0 0.0 3316 1160 ?S21:29 0:00 sh -c rpm -q
-a --queryformat
"%{NAME}\n%{VERSION}-%{RELEASE}\n%{EPOCH}\n%{GROUP}\n%{SUMMARY}\n\n" 2>/dev/null
root 27226 131 0.4 15460 8280 ?R21:29 0:02 rpm -q -a
--queryformat %{NAME}\n%{VERSION}-%{RELEASE}\n%{EPOCH}\n%{GROUP}\n%{SUMMARY}\n\n
root 27229 0.0 0.0 6184 832 pts/0S+ 21:29 0:00 grep
--color=auto -i rpm

And this happens quite often...

I've had a 'please add white-list' bug open for years, but I don't
think support has been added yet.

Disabling it seems to work fine.

Also, AFAIK Gnome3 requires accelerated graphics (at least it did last
time I checked). You may be better off trying Mate, XFCE, LXDE, KDE, or
some lightweight window manager without a full DE.

Ahh, Mate looks very nice, and seems to use less CPU than Gnome-3.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Right. Let's cut it out with the name-calling. Criticize ideas, not
people.

So, it seems like there's no daemon running. I don't see anything on
my systems's /etc/cron* files that references rpm. Next time you see
it, try a "ps aux" to see if you can find out what it's doing.

Check your cooling fans spin up again when it wakes up.

Cron job resetting hardware?

2013-08-16 Thread Tom Horsley
This bug:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=958326

has gotten me doing crazy things like setting up my android
camera to take time lapse pictures of the screen every minute
to find out exactly when it happens so I can look in the logs
to see what was going on then :-).

Last night, the screen went funny between 1:16 am and 1:17 am.
In /var/log/messages I found this sort of stuff:

Aug 16 01:17:08 zooty bluetoothd[453]: bluetoothd[453]: Endpoint registered:
sender=:1.5382 path=/MediaEndpoint/HFPAG
Aug 16 01:17:08 zooty pulseaudio[17966]: [pulseaudio] module.c: Failed to load
module "module-esound-protocol-unix" (argument: ""): initialization failed.
...

Almost like something came around and reset a bunch of
hardware at the same time the screen flaked out (though
I found no messages at all for anything related to the
intel video drivers).

Does anyone know of something that runs in cron (or maybe
systemd) that helpfully resets a lot of hardware nightly?

This whole thing is getting more and more mysterious.

RPM?

2013-08-16 Thread jarmo
Hi

Just curious, I see in Gkrellm quite often RPM takes much processor
time.
What is this RPM "daemon" Is it needed? I have not auto update on.
Where I can find config for that?

Just confused
