How to disable the automatics screen lock on Fedora 22 KDE?

2015-08-01 Thread Kenneth Wolcott
Hi All;

I just installed Fedora 22 KDE spin as a VirtualBox guest.

I tried to disable the automatics screen lock but it still turns on
automatically.

I want to invoke it manually only (if ever).

How to disable the automatics screen lock?

Thanks,
Ken Wolcott

You're supposed to make a change to your locale in

Personalization --> Regional Settings --> Formats

there you're supposed to check the "Detailed Settings" box and then pick a
locale for Time what does 24hr such as gb (Great Britian). You could use "C"
from the GUI but there is currently a bug which causes that to fail.

What I do is to simply add

export LC_TIME=C

to my ~/.bashrc file.

No matter what you do, you need to logout/login for the changes to take effect.

There is a BZ upstream to address this whole issue. People are generally
unhappy with the current method which lacks the ability to make more precise
settings for your preferred formats.

How to change displayed time to 24-hour clock? (Fedora 22 KDE spin)

2015-08-01 Thread Kenneth Wolcott
Hi;

How to change displayed time to 24-hour clock? (Fedora 22 KDE spin)

I just downloaded and installed Fedora 22 KDE spin as a VIrtualBox guest OS.

 I have updated.

I'm trying to change the am/pm time format to 24-hour time format.

Under System Settings -> Regional Settings -> Date & Time I do not
find any way to change the format of my time, only my timezone, which
I do not wish to change.

I tried to change the icon itself but that doesn't work either.

Thanks,

cpu at 99% by firefox

2015-08-01 Thread jd1008

Certain web sites raise my cpu utilization to 99%.

The 2 websites that I visit very frequently are youtube and ebay.

I end up having to kill all the ebay and youtube tabs
in order to regain some response for other interactive processes,
and bring cpu utilization down to about 2 to 4 %.

So, why would these sites rob me of so much cpu computing power?
How are they doing it? They even end up consuming network bandwidth,
so much so, that other FF connections become extremely sluggish.
The internet connection I connect to normally provides 6-MBites/s
download speeds.
When FF eats 99% of cpu, in most cases, I am not even playing
any youtube videos.

I did this a couple of years ago and forget if I did it on Fedora or
Mint or openSUSE.

This guide is for Arch, and contains a link at the top for Mint. So it
should be fairly straightforward to adapt for Fedora.

After poking around some more, I'm calling this an
evdev bug. I have all the same properties according
to xinput queries, but drag lock simply doesn't:

Where can you put the keyfile so the kernel can find it and how do you
tell the kernel to look there for it? I doubt I'd want to do this but
I'm curious what mechanism is available to do it if you can give me a

Aaugh! xinput not working for drag lock!

2015-08-01 Thread Tom Horsley
I'm trying to do final tweaks to my fedora22 system,
and I can't live without drag lock for my trackball.

These commands have always worked before:

#!/bin/bash
xinput --set-button-map \
   'Kensington Kensington Expert Mouse' \
   1 8 3 4 5 6 7 2
xinput --set-int-prop \
   'Kensington Kensington Expert Mouse' \
   'Evdev Drag Lock Buttons' 8 2 1

but on fedora 22 I don't get drag lock (although
I do get the top left mouse button mapped to
button 8).

Anyone have any idea what might have changed here?

It seems to be a "where you drop it" issue.

If I start k3b but don't click on one of the 4 options in the lower
windowbut drop one of those files on the area showing "new data project"
"new audio project" "copy medium" then everything is fine

If I drop the file outside of that area, like on the color background,
sometimes I see what you see. Not 100% reproducible.

I guess it is annoying :-)

Hi alchemist,

Another point: clicking first on the "New Data Project" button, and
then dragging /boot/vmlinuz... to the Data project window, no error
happens, and I can burn flawlessly. It seems that the direct drag/drop
process selects the wrong target action.

Starting k3b directly by "k3b --data /boot/vmlinuz*", then k3b marks
these kernel files correctly as data files, and I can burn that data CD,
so I guess it's a drag/drop problem.

That sounds very odd. K3B will burn an audio file to a data CD no
problem. Are you sure you're not trying to create an audio cd?

Issue with dnf update after fedup from fc21 to fc22?

2015-08-01 Thread Michael D. Setzer II
Everything seemed to go thru fine with the update, but then running dnf
update ran into a strange issue.

It was trying to remove an old fc21 kernel, and it failed with 3 files. Using
yumex I was alble to remove two of the files with no problem, but the
kernel-core gets a similar message. Tried both of the options it mentions at
the end, but still get the message.

Not sure why it is giving a message about kernel 4.0.8, when it is remove
4.0.5?

Output of dnf update

To diagnose the problem, try running: 'rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest'.
You probably have corrupted RPMDB, running 'rpm --rebuilddb' might fix the
issue.

What do you expect people to do with that information? You don't say
what URL it crashed on, if you're using a nightly, if you have
extensions loaded, if there's a backtrace, if you reported it to
Bugzilla. Absolutely nothing useful.
