The only gotcha I see to this approach would be if the newer release's compiler/support libraries require code changes to the packages being bootstrapped. The iterative cycle of trying a mock build, then figuring out what broke, fixing the code, and then launching a mock build again – based on experience, I'd say this will be much slower than just installing the new release, and then figuring out what's going on, in a live environment. Rhythmbox F23 goes wacky
Before I bugzilla it, is anyone else seeing this? Please see http://imgur.com/rJYUlzt From time to time, since upgrading to F23, Rhythmbox gets very confused about where it is on a track, shows a VERY LARGE falue from the current position, and stops playing. If your packages are allowed in Fedora, Fedora account holders can use COPR: Cool Other Packages Repository [1]. People use this for testing latest upstream (git) versions, or where they don't feel they have the time to officially develop a package and become a Fedora package maintainer. Here you can submit either a .src.rpm URL, or upload same from the COPR web interface. You can then request to build against current/devel Fedora versions. The rpms are the output, but it also does createrepo that you can enable in dnf. Other than that, mock is the answer, and what Fedora packagers use to test build packages for any version. Dave. F23 KDE instant message client problems
After the F22 update I found that the instant messages (IM) client build into KDE stopped being able to log me in to google hangouts. I use the settings online accounts to authorize the IM. But it still reported auth problems. Then I deleted everything in .config and .local to do with telepathy (seems to have telepathy and ktelepathy naming of files and folders). I then get told that I need to "Configure Now..." by the IM client. But adding an account via the settings online accounts does not make the IM client happy. It still thinks its not configured. May be I messed up the config? No problem I'll add a new user to the system and use that fresh account to test IM. The fresh account has the same problem. IM client claims no config. Configure successfully using online accounts IM client still clains no config. Anyone else seen this problem? Anyone know of a work around? I use it for my S5 phone. From that point on, it's up to you to do what you will. My system is Gnome DT and "gvfs-mtp" is installed. I can see the phones files in /run/user/1000/gvfs/mtp\:host\=%5Busb%3A001%2C008%5D/. The problem I am having is that I can't use "cp -a " or "rsync -av ". I can only use Gnome filer manager to copy the file from the phone to the computer. I have installed simple-mtpfs and tried to mount the phones file system to local directory without success. What is the problem? I can't see it :-) First off, you need to see which devices MTP sees: [rick@prophead ~]$ simple-mtpfs -l 1: SamsungGalaxy models (MTP) In my case, just my Galaxy S5. Next, make sure you have write privileges on the mountpoint you want. I just created a mountpoint in my home directory for testing: [rick@prophead ~]$ mkdir tstmnt Next, I mounted my phone there: [rick@prophead ~]$ simple-mtpfs --device 1 tstmnt To verify it, I checked what's mounted (I've stripped out irrelevant stuff from the following list): [rick@prophead ~]$ mount ... simple-mtpfs on /home/rick/tstmnt type fuse.simple-mtpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,user_id=1000,group_id=1000) ... I thought Android was Linux based. :-) To unmount, just use the normal umount command, but you need to be root to do it: [rick@prophead ~]$ sudo umount ~rick/tstmnt Voila! The VBox kernel modules are built ok, but I get a warning saying: "unsupported pre-release version of X.Org server installed. Not installing the X.Org drivers." The X log says that there is X.Org X Server 1.17.99.902 installed, which *is* a pre-release. I guess downgrading might cure the problem, but how? Any advice from the wise persons on this list would be greatly appreciated. -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Fedora Code of Conduct: http://fedoraproject.org/code-of-conduct Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines Have a question? Duplicated Xorg
Hi, I don't know why but recently on my Thinkpad T430 I'm always having two xorg running. Originally I used it with optimus, so I thought this is the reason, but now I've switched to discrete graphics but I still having one xorg on vt1 and another on vt3. How can I get rid of this? Re: Keyboard Layout Panel Indicator
Pretty obvious once I thought about it. I just removed the English US from the Input Sources under "Region & Language". Even though I deselected it in Anaconda during the install it was installed anyway. Keyboard Layout Panel Indicator
With the installation of F23 I now have an indicator/applet in the top panel allows switching between languages and altering the keyboard layout. I have no need or want of that indicator. How can I get rid of it, permanently? Thanks. Constant Web Authentication Redirect
Since I installed Fedora 23 Workstation (clean not an upgrade) every time I log in or restart gnome-shell I get a "Web Authentication Redirect" web page pop up and I am connected to a Gnome Project web page. I'm not leaving a web browser running when I log out so it's not a web session trying to resume. How can I stop this behaviour? Upgrade F22 to F23
Hello Fedora world, I did an upgrade f22 to f23 and it went wrong : dnf upgrade was succesfull , install plugin dnf was succesfull ,upgrade and download releaseaver 23 was succesfull , but with system upgrade and reboot something went wrong : I think that in the middle of the cleanup the system went down. So I did a retry : dnf system-upgrade download --releasever=23 ; Answer Error cannot remove systemd and dnf protected packages. When trying dnf system-upgrade reboot ; Answer System not ready for upgrade. Is there a way to repair this , or can it only resolved by a fresh install ? Thanks for answering , kind regards, Ger van Dijck. -- Gemaakt met Opera's e-mailprogramma: http://www.opera.com/mail/ -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Fedora Code of Conduct: http://fedoraproject.org/code-of-conduct Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines Have a question? My own packages I use mock to build for the new version (heck I've gotten into the habit of using mock for any package building). Then when everything is built correctly pop in a repo that dnf system-upgrade can pick up. No broken dependencies and everything tested to ensure it builds properly before the upgrade. -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Fedora Code of Conduct: http://fedoraproject.org/code-of-conduct Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines Have a question? Online Accounts broken in F23
"gnome-control-center online-accounts" generates an X error and doesn't allow keyboard input. It also generates an automatic error report. I think I'll stick with Nouveau for the time being as it's now working acceptably (I had forgotten to remove all the Nvidia stuff, which apparently is the only reasonable way to get Nouveau to activate correctly).
