The 2-finger tap for right-click seems to work if I turn that on, and

I can't make the 3-finger tap work on my laptop.
When I play with it in GNOME touchpad test settings, I see always first
a very quick "secondary clic", followed immediately by "central clic".

In Nautilus and Firefox, it's always interpreted as a 2-finger tap.

Perhaps it's a Wayland bug. I should check if it works in Xorg.

There is actually, but in GNOME Tweak Tool.

Interesting. I don't have an XPS 13. I have an Inspiron 7352 14". My
touchpad and touchscreen are:

U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=mouse3 event9
B: PROP=1

However, I also see this other touchscreen in /proc/bus/input/devices:

I: Bus=0018 Vendor=06cb Product=75db Version=0100
N: Name="DLL06B5:00 06CB:75DB Touchpad"

B: ABS=2608003
B: MSC=20

I'm not sure what's going on, because that looks like the touchscreen, but
it's listed as a touchpad. Either way, it's not like I have right click or
middle click on the touchscreen, either.

Suspend working?

2018-07-24 Thread Robert Moskowitz
Lost the thread on this suspend problem.  Tried to find it, so I started
anew

So far the 4.17.7 kernel is working.  I did a lot of suspends as I
opened each new app.  Then I let things run for 1/2 a day.   This latest
suspend did that double thing, with the system coming right out of
suspend and having to unlock and then suspend.  Don't remember that
happening other than the first suspend after poweron (which it did).

But so far things are working.  I will try a suspend tomorrow and see.
Normally at home the only time I suspend is friday late afternoon to
have everything in the office 'off' until Saturday night.  Not like at a
conference where I suspend my system a dozen times per day.

So I will keep a watch and see.

Fun!

Not :(

strange error on shutdown

2018-07-24 Thread Paolo Galtieri
I was in the process of rebooting my system after doing an update and
got the following:

error: unexpectedly disconnected from boot status daemon

dracut Warning:

/lib/dracut-lib.sh: line 1088: /sbin/rdsosreport: No such file or directory
You might want to save "/run/initramfs/rdsosreport.txt" to a USB stick
or /boot

after mounting them and attach to a bug report.

To get more debug information in the report,
reboot with "rd.debug" added to the kernel command line.

Dropping to debug shell.

shutdown:/#

At this point anything I type is not displayed, but the output is.

For example

shutdown:/# sh: child setpgid (4318 to 4318): Permission denied

It then displayed the output of the ls command which I had typed.

So what does this mean, and what should I do if I see this again?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Paolo

I have an older Elitebook. I assume yours also can turn the screen
around into tablet mode? If so, look in /proc/bus/input/devices and
find the WMI input device. Get the event device number, in my case it's
event13. Install the "evtest" package and run "evtest
/dev/input/event13" (replace with your event number). Look for this:

  Event type 5 (EV_SW)
Event code 1 (SW_TABLET_MODE) state 0

Does yours show state 0 or 1? Switch to tablet mode and back and see if
the switch changes state. Press ctrl-C to stop.

Do the special keys work, like the volume or brightness keys? If you
switch to a console using CTRL-ALT-F3, can you type there? Are there
any relevant messages in the log if you run "journalctl -b" (as root)?
Does the touchpad work?

Assuming all dependencies are declared then dnf should prevent you
from removing the gstreamer0 packages if anything needs them and tell
you what that is. Alternatively, you can also use rpm's "--test"
option which will give you the same info without trying to remove
anything:

   rpm --erase --test ...

If you do have a dependency issue then it appears to be the plugins
that are causing the conflict with soundtouch v2, so it may be
possible to just uninstall the v0.x plugins (specifically
"gstreamer-plugins-bad-free") to unblock the soundtouch update.

There's your problem; gstreamer v0.10.23, rather than v1.12.4.
Presumably you have something installed that specifically requires
that version, but if it just needs gstreamer you could make look into
moving from v0.x to v1.x which will also unblock the soundtouch
update.

If you really need v0.x of gstreamer then you'll need to wait a little
longer as the builds are still in QA (should be any day now), or you
could pull them from Testing.

dnf clean all; dnf update soundtouch shows same conflict.

All the necessary packages seem to have been pushed on the 20th, at
least for me - I'm now on soundtouch v2.0.0-3.fc27. There do seem to
be others with problems though, mostly to do with the gstreamer0
builds (I'm on gstreamer1), so maybe that's your issue? Gstreamer0 is
still on QA, so you could wait a little longer or see if you can
uninstall it if not required, but if your updates are being blocked by
something else I'd recommend flagging it on the original Bugzilla:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1601724

They are built at the same time in koji and should have been pushed to stable
at the
same time.

Have you tried cleaning your cache?

I am, of course, running a 64bit system.

If you are still getting the dnf error you may want to try "dnf clean
metadata".  A
bigger hammer would be "dnf clean all".

If you're still getting an error can you post it?  It may be something new and
unique
to your system.

F28 Workstation fresh installation on HP Elitebook 8540w Laptop: internal keyboard does not work

2018-07-24 Thread Stavros Cassidis
I just installed Fedora 28 Workstation on my HP EliteBook 8540w laptop and it
seems to work fine except the fact that the Laptop's Keyboard seems to be
inactive (deactivated/disabled?). External keyboard works just fine.
The problem occured at the first boot (Gnome initial setup). I had to use an
rxternal keyboard to finish the setup. Checked the settings. Didn't find
something to lead me to a solution or an explanation.

I wonder if anyone has encountered that or has any idea where to look for a
solution.

(the HW is OK: all other OSes, including Fedora 27 have no issue with the
keyboard)
