Sounds wise. It's very good to hear you're back on your
feet (or in your chair, as the case may be).

It's the bracketed-paste feature from readline-8.1.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/1954366 has some details on it.

It's not universally popular, to be sure. Disabling it does
have some security implication which are worth keeping in
mind for anyone reading along idly. That's why I haven't
included the instructions to disable it.

Cheers,

Hi John,

You actually gave a cite. That is classy. I gets
a little tiring when folks throw their axioms around
and call them "FACT" (they liek to bold "fact"
and having nothing to back themselves up other
than ad hominem attacks. A lot of people do not
understand the scientific process. As I said, you
are classy.

I found several problems with the article:

"During December 21, 2020–January 10, 2021":
The data is not current.

"reported 4,041,396 first doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine (2.5 cases
per million doses administered)."

They left off the second dose. Again bad data.

They left off their conflict of interest statement

Reading through the whole article, I got the feeling
that too much cherry picking was involved so they could
get a desired result.

I did a little digging around on Pub Med
(pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov) and did not find
anything other than localized reactions.
Even the flu shot has localized reactions.
And some warning about giving mRNA therapy
jabs to those with allergies. I constrained
my search to the Moderna therapy.

Unfortunately, since the issue has been both
politicized and monetized, it is getting hard
to find any actual science. Eventually it will
come out.

Do you have any other studies? Maybe your search
fingers are better than mine.

Samuel: When I move the stylus on the right-hand side of the tablet no
ABS-X coordinate is reported; only ABS-Y keeps changing. This may be
the problem, but I do not know how to solve it.

What is the maximum value it gets to? Also, do you mean that there's
only an ABS-Y in the packet? It sounds like either the tablet isn't
reporting correctly or the kernel hid driver is interpreting it
incorrectly. Are there any relevant messages in the journal.

Something I just discovered is an application called "hidviz". It
directly talks to the device over the HID interface and shows what it
finds. Try running it and select the interface for the stylus. Copy
the output from the Descriptor View and then watch the values in the
Device View as you move the stylus around, particularly in the right side.

FWIW, that statistic concerns allergic reactions.  Which is far different than
what became of me.

The diagnosis for my case was "Drug Induced Interstitial Lung Disease".

According to Taiwan's CECC (Central Epidemic Command Center), only 2 such cases
have been reported in the
area. Mine, and someone in South Korea. (There could be unreported cases.)

Anyway, as this has nothing to do with Fedora, I think it is fair to let it go.

Other than surviving, the hardest thing is getting back to "all things Fedora".

/var/lib/libvirt/qemu/save is a directory.

With all VM's stopped, you could always move that directory to a location with
more
space and make a sym link to the new location.

You shouldn't need to stop any VMs.  It wouldn't be writing to that directory unless you tell it to.  Be aware that if you link it to somewhere else, you will most likely have to adjust the selinux context of the destination directory.

Of course you are right about not needing to stop the VM's.  Not sure what I
was thinking.
It seems that if one uses mv the selinux context is retained.

Thanks, again, Samuel. I have only one screen.

By sliding my hand with the pen on the tablet, I reach the right

Ideally, the screen border should be reached only when the pen gets

ssh does not like loose permissions either, as they mean your keys etc
etc can no have been affected by a user other than yourself. It will
refuse to use key files in this circumstance.

Thanks, again, Samuel. I have only one screen.

By sliding my hand with the pen on the tablet, I reach the right
border of the screen when I am in the middle of my drawing tablet.
Ideally, the screen border should be reached only when the pen gets
close to the tablet border -- that is what I mean.

My "evtest" does not report Event type 3 (EV_ABS). Please, see below

How can one set the active area to full?

Can you explain in more detail what you mean?

Here's something to test. Run "evtest" and pick the tablet. Before you
do anything, there should be a list of what it supports. For example,
part of mine shows this:

  Event type 3 (EV_ABS)
Event code 0 (ABS_X)
  Value 13067
  Min0
  Max32767
  Resolution 323
Event code 1 (ABS_Y)
  Value 19156
  Min0
  Max32767
  Resolution 430

Check the min and max numbers for yours and then move the stylus to the
corners and see if the position matches. The input system should
automatically scale the resulting values to match your display. Do you
have more than one screen?

So the buttons are sending key combinations. You probably don't want to
remap those globally, so I suggest using something like
https://github.com/kmonad/kmonad or https://github.com/rvaiya/keyd to
remap the keys.
keyd only remaps, but doesn't run scripts, so you would have to remap
the key to another one that you can use as a hotkey.

kmonad allows you to run scripts as well.

Does it cause mouse clicks?

To find out what events are happening, you can install "evtest". If you
run "evtest" with no arguments, it will give you a list of available
devices. See which one(s) match your tablet and select it. Click the
buttons and see what happens.

/var/lib/libvirt/qemu/save is a directory.

With all VM's stopped, you could always move that directory to a location with
more
space and make a sym link to the new location.

Re: SSH with ecdsa key pair asks for password since yesterday on fully updated F34 setup (both sides)

2021-09-13 Thread Ranjan Maitra

Thank you very much for your help! After hours on this, I finally found that somehow in some manner, my permissions had changed on my home directory  (by something I had done, I guess, that I am still trying to track dwn) and which made the permissions global (for my home directory). Which is not a big deal since I am the only user, but selinux does not like it. So, the problem is fixed now.

Thank you again for your time and looking into it.

Best wishes,
Ranjan

But the connection did work fine even after the two machines got updated for a while, till around 12:00 yesterday (I can not pinpoint the exact time it last worked).

Check if the config has changed (most likely on the server side). You
say the machines are automatically updated, but are they rebooted after
the update? Assuming they aren't and sshd was updated, then it's hard
to say if or when the updated server or config would come into effect.
Check the dnf history and see if there are any relevant updates recently.

Wow! I had noticed your absence, but thought vacation. As Todd
mentioned, the bad reactions to the mRNA vaccines are a lot more common
than generally acknowledged by the health authorities. You were
unfortunate, as serious complications *are* statistically rare, about 1
per 10,000 doses, and fortunate, as deaths are also statistically rare,
but about 1 per 100,000 doses. For those at serious risk of death from
covid19, good odds, but for those who have survived infection, and thus
have better and longer lasting immunity than the vaccine confers, an
unnecessary risk.

Welcome back to the land of the living, and the list!

I think that is called hibernate. I haven't done that for a long time,
but I recall reading someone getting it to work for fedora on this list
within the last year. I also seem to recall that Gnome has deprecated
that, and is not supporting it anymore because of security concerns,
but that could be a faulty memory.

The process is to create a swap partition or a swap file, and tell
fedora to save everything to that partition on power down. Then, the
kernel options line has an option added to restore from that saved area
instead of booting fresh.

A web search on hibernate and fedora should be able to find more than
my vague impressions.

Hi.

Wondering if there's a solution/process to being able to restore a
laptop to the state it had prior to powering down.

I run Gnome. Say I have multiple workspaces. Each workspace has a
number of "term" windows, and some gedit processes. The Gedit
processes might be running/editing different files.

Is there a way to power down, and power back up, and to be able to

The Settings panel is for configuring what happens when you log in

session, use the Leave panel. It has been this way for as long as I can

Hi,

I have been away from plasma for a while and see some changes of course. One is
plaguing me though... namely, how does one manually save a session. It used to
be in the settings but I can't seem to find it now.

Could someone please point me to where I should look?

Hi,

I have it in the "Power/session" menu.

the two machines got updated for a while, till around 12:00 yesterday (I can

Check if the config has changed (most likely on the server side). You
say the machines are automatically updated, but are they rebooted after
the update? Assuming they aren't and sshd was updated, then it's hard
to say if or when the updated server or config would come into effect.
Check the dnf history and see if there are any relevant updates recently.
