VirtualBox and VirtualBox-Server File Conflicts

2022-10-17 Thread Stephen Morris

Hi,
I'm trying to install Virtualbox from the Fedora repositories,
which appears to be coming from the Rpmfusion-free-updates repository,
and it has a hard requires on VirtualBox-Server, so the server package
is brought in with the install. The issue is the two packages have a
number of files with the same name so they conflict with each other. Is
this something that should be raised with the rpmfusion guys or should I
just wait for it to be rectified as it is immediately obvious on
install? I tried excluding the VirtualBox-server package but VirtualBox
won't install without it.

regards,
Steve

Since VirtualBox are in the RPM-Fusion Repro you should ask there.
If I understand right, you are getting problem when you when you install
VirtualBox, is that right?
I have VirtualBox installed and hade no problem with the installation or
running VirtualBox.

Why would you do that? You can't run VirtualBox without the server.
Please read the information of the VirtualBox rpm:

rpm -qi VirtualBox VirtualBox-server

When I connect these cameras to VLC or guvcview they play correctly
for about 10 seconds and then freeze. They work properly in Windows

Re: Request for testing: fail2ban 1.0.1 update

2022-10-17 Thread Charles Dennett

I've been testing f2b over the past few days and I can now make it fail
on demand. By that I mean the fail2ban-server process uses 100% of a
cpu and becomes unresponsive and will not respond to fail2ban-client or
process any other log entries (apache, sshd, etc.) whenever it attempts
to process a dovecot log entry.

This will happen if I use the latest 1.0.1 package. However, if I use
that but replace the doveconf.conf filter with the one from an earlier
version (I used the one from my last fedora 35 backup) everything works
fine. So, I would hazard a guess that something in the regex's in the
newest dovecot.conf file is the issue. I won't pretend to even begin to
understand them. They are quite complex to me.

So for now I will use the older dovecot.conf file. If someone wants me
to test an updated version of dovecont.conf, I'd be glad to do that.

Thanks,

I think they already know about it. I was just poking around on the
github pages for f2b and found this:

https://github.com/fail2ban/fail2ban/issues/3370
dovecot jail causes 100% CPU usage #3370

if I understand, it has something to do with python's regex engine not
detecting nested unlimited loops.

Update coming if not already released.

There should have been some USB message before that started.

That's interesting and might be relevant.

Find the log lines before the dequeue errors start to see what happened.

I have multiple F36 & F37 installations on various hardware. No Wayland session
has ever been opened on any of them. On the currently booted F36:

# startx /usr/bin/icewm

logged in as root user starts IceWM here, but as normal user if I don't first
chown /usr/bin/Xorg then it fails with

xauth: file /home//.serverauth.1499 does not exist

/usr/bin/sh: /usr/bin/X: Permission denied
xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
xinit: server error

Even with

# ll /usr/bin/Xorg
-rws--x--x 1 root root 277 Jul 13 07:58 /usr/bin/Xorg

:(

On this particular installation, sddm is installed, but only IceWM and TDE
sessions are installed, and both work from TDM when running.

Try

xinit -- :0

to open a gui session with a terminal window. If you have xfce installed,

xfce4-session

will start it. You can check with dnf to see just what is installed.

Is the computer powering other things via its USB ports?

Inadequate power is one potential cause for USB disconnects. I'm not
sure if the USB power negotiation is done entirely in the hardware, or
if the OS has a say in the matter.

Discounting that potential cause, how many USB things are plugged in at
once? There could be some hardware conflict with the Linux drivers.

Or it could just be Windows-only, some quirk in the device that they
dealt with by a special tweak to the Windows driver.

Are you deliberately booting into a command line interface then
separately starting a graphical user interface for a reason, or habit?

If you installed an XFCE spin, I'd expect it to just work.

But, do you get anywhere doing "startxfce4" instead of "startx"?

NB: I haven't used XFCE for a very long time, I found it way too
primitive back then, so I've not kept up with it.

Kept checking it for a few hours, and then eventually it
did start returning valid addresses.

download1.rpmfusion.org. 300IN A 193.28.235.6

Don't know if it was a router issue, or a configuration
issue.
