I seem to recall there was a website that did that to you.

Re: xroach?

2023-01-02 Thread Roger Heflin
Xiconall was way more fun to run on someone else. Most of the ancient x11
programs used apis that have not changed so seem to still compile and work
with very minimal and or no changes. The hardest part is finding all the
add on libraries.

I see the code is here to build https://github.com/interkosmos/xroach

Its been a looong time since I recall this being released.
At that time there was not security in X11 and you could run xroach on someone
elses screen.

I also remember a program that moved the mouse away from buttons when you tried
to click them.

and on what?

I have a Lenovo x140e upgraded with 16Gb mem (even though
spec says 8Gb
max) and 500GB SSD, but I am looking for something perhaps
newer and
perhaps won't hang at times.

Requirements are:

12" format
eraserhead pointing device (I hate touchpads!)
VGA output (for my KVM)

VGA really limits the selection, but there are cheap HDMI
to VGA

  adapters.

Affordable from ebay or such.

There are often bargains on systems 2--3 years old
(particularly now as
large enterprises are moving to Windows 11) from the
large vendors'
  refurbished channels.

A few years ago the enterprise level laptops started to
get USB-C power,
typically from a (very expensive) docking station.  I'm
using a DeWalt

USB-C power dongle to power a Dell Latitude 7480 from
2018 -- it is part
of a kit that also can use a DeWalt 20v battery to supply
power by USB A

and C to keep cell phones going during extended power
outages.  The

Latitude has both touchpad (with 2 buttons) and nipple
pointers.

At work I was given a Latitude for dev work and it was terrible,
the fans turn on at the hint of doing some low CPU work.
I manged to get that replaced with e Dell Precision 3561 and that
  is
a lot better hardware for a dev. Only get the fans turning on when
  I
do long running builds, otherwise silent.

Look in the power settings, e.g. in KDE it's under:

Power Management->Energy Saving->Screen Energy Saving

Presumably Gnome has something similar.

Xscreensaver forever in F37

2023-01-02 Thread Beartooth

When I first get to my study in the morning, my monitor is not
dark, but still displaying some choice of xscreensaver. It always used to
stop and leave the monitor to rest. How do I get that behavior back?

Hey All,

I would like to invite all of you to participate in the Kernel 6.1
Test week is happening from 2023-01-03 to 2023-01-08. It's
fairly simple, head over to the wiki [0] and read in detail about the
test week and simply run the test case mentioned in[1] and enter your
results.

As usual, the Fedora QA team will hangout at #fedora-test-...@libera.chat
for question and discussion.
