Re: Asking for thoughts/comments on a laptop/specs
The only issue I see with that one is the display is 1600x900. I personally look for 1080p on 17". Costco has an HP 17" (1080P) that just went on sale this week for $499 (https://www.costco.com/hp-17.3%22-laptop---13th-intel-core-i5-1335u---1080p---windows-11.product.4000138583.html)--if you are near a costco have a membership or know someone who does. I bought one last week. It has 512G nvme + 12G ram (8g+4g). Fedora is installed and working on it, the only issue was the wifi card is new and is not supported in Fedora 37/38 kernels (you need the upgrade kernel). The wifi card is a realtek so I may replace it with a $20 intel card since the realtek's have in the past not been the best. As I said, in https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/users@lists.fedoraproject.org/message/6C74V5VVPE4EX5MESHTJCIPPYX5V43J4/ During the upgrade, the Xorg nvidia drivers may have been updated. Example: /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.so /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/extensions/libglxserver_nvidia.so This is user mode code yes. -- Francis ___ users mailing list -- users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@lists.fedoraproject.org Fedora Code of Conduct: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/project/code-of-conduct/ List Guidelines: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines List Archives: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/users@lists.fedoraproject.org Do not reply to spam, report it: https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure/new_issue

The upgrade does not do anything to the already loaded kernel modules. You must reboot to be able to use the new drivers. Until then the system uses the old, already loaded, drivers. Maybe there is user mode code that was upgraded that caused the issue?
