I inherited a computer running Windows 8. When I power up the machine,
it asks for a

RE: Re: Errors on Boot-Up (SOLVED)

2013-05-03 Thread Bill Kuns
Dear Mr. Stevens:

Thanks for your reply.

I installed two WD 1TB Hard Drives when I put my new computer together.
I am having difficulty getting Fedora to recognize and access both of
them.
(See emails "Two HDs"). Both of these HDs are new.

I removed the second HD and those errors no longer occur on boot-up.
This
tells me that the second HD is the cause of the errors.

Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,

Errors on Boot-Up

2013-05-02 Thread Bill Kuns
Dear Helpers:

When I do manage to boot up my Fedora System, I get these remarks on the
screen:

[ 11.034216] ata5: COMRESET Failed (errno =-16)
[ 21.050448] ata5: COMRESET Failed (errno =-16)
[ 68.199577] ata5: COMRESET Failed (errno =-16)
[ 78.235808] ata5: COMRESET Failed (errno =-16)
[ 117.824319] ata5: COMRESET Failed (errno =-16)
[ 127.860509] ata5: COMRESET Failed (errno =-16)
[ 161.385877] ata5: COMRESET Failed (errno =-16)
[ 171.422106] ata5: COMRESET Failed (errno =-16)

After that, the system goes ahead and boots. The next time, I get the
same number
of errors, but the numbers are different.

Do I need to fix this? How?

Thanks,

Two HDs

2013-05-01 Thread Bill Kuns
Dear Helpers:

I have installed two 1 TB Hard Drives in my new system. Only one of the
two is
recognized by Fedora.

They are WD1002FAEX drives. When I asked Western Digital for
assistance, their
"help" wasn't much help.

They reported this difficulty was the result of a "Signature Collision".
Then,. they gave me instructions on how to clear the error in Windows
XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. None of those is going to
work under Fedora.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks,

Can't Load Fedora 15

2013-03-29 Thread Bill Kuns
My computer died, so I have to make a new one. The thing comes up
nicely, but when I try
to load the Fedora 15 I've been using, it won't go. I keep getting this
screen which demands
that I select a driver. What driver? Where do I find the blasted
thing? Isn't there a driver
on the Fedora 15 DVD?

I hope someone can help.

Firefox Stopped Working

Aw, Shucks!

I log on to user(B), using Firefox to access the internet. One day,
Firefox stopped
working. I click on it and it won't come up. Nuts!

So, I log on to user(X). Firefox works just fine. I use it for a
couple of months.
Today, it won't come up. Nuts!

I log on to user(W). No Firefox.

What am I doing wrong?

I'm using Fedora 15.

Possibly nothing. Check the ownership and permissions of your home
directory. "username") should own it and have rwx permissions:

[rick@prophead ~]$ ls -ld ~rick
drwx-- 102 rick rick 12288 Oct 10 18:30 /home/rick

If not, as root, change the permissions and delete the
~username/.ICEauthority file:

sudo chown username ~/username
sudo chmod u+rwx ~/username
sudo rm -f ~/username/.ICEauthority

Then log out. When you log in again as username, the file should be
recreated. This has been reported on Ubuntu and several other distros
and whatever caused it may have crept into Fedora somehow.

It appears to be something from an upstream package that Fedora also
uses.
