You can temporarily give your lan interface another class C and
configure that device to give it a ip in your range.
Say your device reset to 192.168.0.1 and your ethernet interface is
eth0 you can
ifconfig eth0:0 192.168.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.0
Config device plugged into your switch to your class C then
ifconfig eth0:0 down

I simlinked libSoundTouch.so.2.0.0 to LibSoundTouch.so.1

rp-pppoe

2018-05-26 Thread Gary Hodder
Hi,
currently I am using a rp-pppoe with a router/modem in bridge mode on
adsl and all is working fine.
We are being forced to move to nbn, in our case fibre to the node.
The provider I am looking at uses vdsl, Protocol: IPoE (DHCP /
Automatic IP) VLAN: None/blank.
Will this work with rp-pppoe? If not is there a similar connection
software that will?

Thanks
Gary.

So is disabling network manager on a live cd install a test thing?

Re: iptables is like alchemy

2013-01-03 Thread Gary Hodder

I'll try this tomorrow when I get into work. But at first look it seems
awfully familiar, like it's something that I've already tried. Thanks,
though. At this point I'll try whatever somebody thinks might work.

-Alan

Maybe I should have put it this way.

This one does the redirect.
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp -i ppp0 --dport 22 -j DNAT
--to-destination 192.168.0.2:22

Because it goes through the forward chain you also need to allow it
there as well with

iptables -A FORWARD -p tcp -i ppp0 -o eth0 -d 192.168.0.2 --dport 22 -j
ACCEPT

You need both.

Gary.

This is really related to iptables, not I presume Fedora-specific. But
I'm really hoping that somebody here will be able to school me on
iptables, so I don't have to find and subscribe to some other list
 just to ask one question.

I'm faced with the problem of needing to punch a hole in a firewall on
our portal server so that, in our case, ssh to port 20022 on external
interface of that server actually just connects to port 22 on another
machine located in the network on the internal interface. I hope I'm
 being clear.

I've tried many iterations of iptables rules to accomplish this. The
 closest I've come is:

 iptables -A PREROUTING -t nat -p tcp -s 0/0 --dport 20022 -j DNAT --to
 192.168.0.35:22

And indeed connecting to port 20022 on portal just goes straight to
port 22 on the other (192.168.0.35) machine. The problem is, as soon
as I apply this rule, DNS queries (portal is also a DNS server) to the
 external interface stop working.

I've googled endlessly and found about a thousand variations by people
that are each supposed to solve a subtly different variation on what
I'm trying to do. Nothing I've tried does what I want without bad side
 effects like I describe above.

 -Alan

Hi Alan,

try this
ppp0=Internet connection
eth0=local area network connection
This will forward port 22 on the Internet to machine 192.168.0.2 port 22
on local network.

iptables -A FORWARD -p tcp -i ppp0 -o eth0 -d 192.168.0.2 --dport 22 -j
ACCEPT

iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp -i ppp0 --dport 22 -j DNAT
--to-destination 192.168.0.2:22

usb ethernet adapter

2012-11-28 Thread Gary Hodder
trying to get a Davicom DM9601 USB Ethernet adapter to work with Fedora
17. The driver keeps turning the carrier off on the device.
Anyone know a fix for this or am I better off getting a better one.
If I need to get a better one what cheapies on Ebay are known to work?

This is for a dell laptop to connect to a adsl modem and the on board
network card will connect to the local network switch.
The laptop will be the local server and run off solar power.

Below is a cut from the messages file.

Thanks
Gary.

Motherboards

2012-07-11 Thread Gary Hodder
Hi all,

I am wondering what motherboards users are using on there Linux box?
I had a Asus m4a79t delux but in corroded under 2 years and failed.
Asus blames the customer oxidation and will not give warranty even
though it has 3 years warranty.
Strange how a old p5 Intel machine beside it is perfectly fine.
Asus warranty not worth the paper its written on.
Have a Asus crosshair V formula that spent more times being repaired
than been used.
It still comes up with eprom errors on boot and runs like a dog and Asus
will not give money back as they say they do not support Linux.
So we have proved that this brand is crap, what else is there?

Am looking at the Gigabyte ga-990fxa-d3, does this board play well with
Linux as looking at putting it in what was the m4a79t box.

Thanks
Gary.
