MPD without audio
Hi, I've been trying to setup mpd but I don't seem to get any audio out. Usually mpd has just worked for me, but now I can't seem to get it right, and not even really sure where to look. My audio config is taken from mpd wiki [1] with no luck. I tried using alsa hw directly, but mpd complained about permissions. Freeze during booting when ACPI enabled
This problem has been occuring for a longer time and with multiple kernels. During booting _most_ of the time, not always the computer freezes during early stages. With other distros the the booting has stopped after giving out a couple of "HT MSI Mapping" lines, but with fedora (noquiet) I can only see some power button information. This happens only when ACPI is enabled. I could theoretically leave acpi off but it's PITA to manually shut down the computer from the power button every time. Re: multibooting linux
Thank you very much for all the answers. What I want to do is installing fedora 13 and ubuntu 10.04 on the same hd (Maybe also debian 5.04, but that I can have on the other ide-disk). I thought that the easiest way would be to use primary partitions, and that I then will be forced to use only four (and no logical volumes). Two swaps and two mains. Maybe my thinking is a little bit old because my deeper experince of linux is most from before year 2000. I have used BSD-unix a lot and feel it's easier with their system, just setting up a primary partition and then slice it and the bios just sees it as a primary partition. I will look through your tips more deeply and see what I come up with. /Mats -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines
multibooting linux
Hi, I want to have (at least) two linux-system (no windows) on the same hd. If I make two partitions for the first (/ and swap) and then the same with the other one. Is that ok? All detailed explanation I've seen is about installing windows and linux and that's not what I want. /Mats -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines
About fedoras evolution?
Hi, I have tried to find information about fedoras evolution but haven't find an answer to the following question: How long will fedora 12 be supported with security updates? I'm coming from ubuntu and used to the idea with LTS-versions (long time support) but I like some of the security philospohy in fedora more. Will fedora 12 be a more mature and stable version in the long run to use? More tested and so on? I know that I have to do some of this judgement by my own. /Mats -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines
Re: Problems with fetchmail
Yes, Oluwagbenga, sendmail is a good thing. I installed postfix because I thought it should be easier and more safe (I'm used to it on freebsd). Now I have switched back and it worked perfect as I wanted it. I'm not used to sendmail in fedora, in freebsd it's more just out of the box. I had to install sendmail-cf but then it was easy to configure and just do "make" and restart it. Thanks again from me. ons 2010-06-02 klockan 22:23 + skrev Oluwagbenga Shobowale: > Ok why not look into the man pages for fetchmail, I know there is an option > which can direct mails to smtp servers (not sure how postfix works). Re: Problems with fetchmail
Oluwagbenga, I followed your tips (thank you) and found that a file called my_name.lock was created in /var/spool/mail when I fetched my mail. Then in the logfile "access denied" to that file. I have not solved the problem yet but it feels that I'm on my way. Thank you. /Mats tis 2010-06-01 klockan 21:15 + skrev Oluwagbenga Shobowale: > I think your log files should give an insight to where the mails are and what > is happening .. Re: Problems with fetchmail
Thanks Oluwagbenga, I looked in the logfile and found "access denied to user.lock-file". Maybe I can go further from there with some chmod. But I don't like to open files blindly because there is often a reason why they are locked. Well, anyway, now I have something that might lead me in right direction so I thank you for that. /Mats tis 2010-06-01 klockan 21:15 + skrev Oluwagbenga Shobowale: > I think your log files should give an insight to where the mails are and what > is happening .. Problems with fetchmail
Hello, I will try to keep this both informative and short. I have installed mutt and fetchmail under fedora 13. I have also changed from sendmail to postfix and it works perfect sending mail with mutt. When I use fetchmail -a to get my mail I can see that it fetch the mails but they don't show up in mutt. The folder in mutt is set to /var/spool/mail/"user" but it seems to be empty. I have no .procmailrc file (not in /etc and not in /home/"user"). My .fetchmailrc looks something like this: poll my.isp proto POP3 user me_at_isp there with password "secret" is "my_login_name" here And it's chmod 600 (obviously because it starts as normal). As I said, I wonder in what folder he puts the mail? /Mats -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines
