With newer updates to Fedora 20 the wakeup timer does not work...

2015-01-12 Thread dwoody1
I have Mythtv installed. I setup a wakeup timer that worked in Fedora 19
so the computer would boot up in time to record a show and then shutdown
until the next recording was scheduled. But in Fedora 20, with the
inclusion of halt into systemd, the wakeup timer does not work.

In Fedora 19 the timer needed to be reset in the halt init script after
the hwclock was updated.

Mythtv has a page describing how to setup the timer but it has not been
updated to reflect the systemd requirements.
I assume that the shutdown in systemd needs to be modified but I am
unsure how.

I have searched for wakeup, systemd, mythtv, hwclock and others but have
not found what I need to change.

Thanks for your help,

David

Re: Sound not working on 3.12.x and 3.13.x kernels for Fedora 20

2014-05-21 Thread dwoody1
I have had lots of input on this problem, however, none have fixed the
sound problem.

At this point, it is time to submit a bug report.
Do I need to file the report with Fedora or with kernel.org?

Thanks to all for your help,

Error in the above. It does not start with audio selected as 'discard

David
I have tried all the recommendations I have received but none fixed
the sound problem.

I normally install a list of programs using ks.cfg. To eliminate the
possibility of not including one or more programs that need to be
installed I re-installed F20 using the dvd and changing the desktop to
xfce with xfce plugins and libreoffice.

The install program made all other selections.

After install I did a sound test using aplay on the original F20
kernel (3.11) and sound worked.
I then did a full upgrade, reboot and retested using the same program
(aplay) and the same sound file.

NO SOUND.

It would seem to me that one of the sound modules is the cause of the
problem. The sound modules that are install are:

snd_hda_codec_realtek45592 1
snd_hda_intel 42658 6
snd_hda_codec 155748 2 snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_intel
snd_hwdep 13232 1 snd_hda_codec
snd_seq54679 0
snd_seq_device 13824 1 snd_seq
snd_pcm81999 4 cx88_alsa,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel
snd_page_alloc 13852 2 snd_pcm,snd_hda_intel
snd_timer 23750 2 snd_pcm,snd_seq
snd59132 24
snd_hda_codec_realtek,cx88_alsa,snd_hwdep,snd_timer,snd_pcm,snd_seq,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel,snd_seq_device

soundcore 14123 1 snd

Since I am not very knowledgeable about sound, is it reasonable to
unload all sound modules and reload the sound modules from the 3.11
kernel and re-test?

If so, do I use insmod 'full/path/to/module' that i want to load?
Do I load them in the order that they are listed above? If not what
order do I need to use?

Thanks for everyone's input,

David

I have not had sound working since the original kernel for F20 (3.11.x).

What motherboard do you have? Maybe it is specific board that has a
problem.

Look at the thread for:

Sound not working on 3.12.x and 3.13.x kernels for Fedora 20

to see what others have said. The 3.14.x kernel has no sound either.

I have other motherboards that do not have a problem with sound.

My sound isn't working either. I didn't notice it until just this
weekend. I know it was working but I can't say when it stopped.

I see the pulseaudio volume meter telling me that it's playing, I see
the level varying, etc., but nothing from the speakers. I checked
alsamixer and nothing is muted.

I'm playing an internet radio station via Chrome right now. I see in
"pulseaudio volume control" that the speakers are pretty much pegged at
the max but no sound at all. One odd thing I just noticed is that just
below the two slider controls for left and right speaker and above the
volume output level it says "Silence" on the left (which I understand)
but "100% (0dB)" on the right which is strange. The two slider volume
controls have a max of "153% (11.00dB)." Even at the max setting there
is no sound at all.

I'll try to find some time this weekend to troubleshoot the problem.
Could the issue be the audio source itself? I had an issue yesterday
with a web golf video I was watching where the instructor was talking
away but there was no sound from my headphones, whereas other videos
from the same source had no issues with sound. I have also noticed
that with youtube videos that sound lvls output from the videos vary
significantly, in that on some videos the sound is loud and on others
if is very soft and almost inaudible.

regards,
Steve

I can reboot to the 3.11 kernel and the sound it just fine playing the
same file.

/dev/root does not exist when doing a remote install

2013-10-09 Thread dwoody1
I am trying to do a remote install of Fedora 19 using an iso on the
/home directory (/dev/sda2). The only thing I have found during my
searches is setting /dev/root up for a cdrom/dvd.

Currently the computer is running Centos 6.4.
This is the entry in grub:

title Remote Install
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-remote lang=en_US keymap=us
repo=hd:sda2:/install/Fedora-19-i386-DVD.iso ks=hd:sda2:/install/ks.cfg

hostname=work.home.com nameserver=127.0.0.1,208.67.222.222 noselinux
ramdisk_size=8192 panic=30

initrd /boot/initrd-remote.img

Do I have an error in the syntax?

How and where do I fix the /dev/root failure?

Thanks,

David

The computer is setup for Mythtv. I have recently upgraded from F14 to
F15. The lirc works only after many reboots on F15.

Lirc worked perfectly on F14. Searching the archives on Fedora has
yielded no information.

I have found others that have the same problem by doing web search but
there were no solutions to be had.

The remote is a RC-6 Microsoft remote that has been in use for several
years. lsmod shows:

ir_lirc_codec 3902 0
lirc_dev 12212 1 ir_lirc_codec
rc_core16034 13
rc_hauppauge,rc_rc6_mce,mceusb,ir_lirc_codec,ir_mce_kbd_decoder,ir_sony_decoder,ir_jvc_decoder,ir_rc6_decoder,ir_rc5_decoder,cx88xx,ir_nec_decoder

The last lines in /var/log/messages are:

Feb 8 17:14:08 star kernel: [9.768401] lirc_dev: IR Remote Control
driver registered, major 249
Feb 8 17:14:08 star kernel: [9.856323] rc rc0: lirc_dev: driver
ir-lirc-codec (mceusb) registered at minor = 0
Feb 8 17:14:08 star kernel: [9.972748] rc rc1: lirc_dev: driver
ir-lirc-codec (cx88xx) registered at minor = 1

Some times the log will show client removed but not always.

The upgrade to F15 was done with preupgrade.

Any help is appreciated,

David
