If your Nvidia supports Optimus technology then you should install
Bumblebee with or without Nvidia properietary drivers. That should cool
down your laptop. I had the same issue & Bumblebee helped. Basically it
stops the use of GPU when not needed but also one needs to invoke the
particular app to run GPU through Bumblebee. It does not do that
automatically right now.

You can read all this at:
http://bumblebee-project.org/
Install it as per:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Bumblebee

tim,

blunt is a polite word.

it has been a bad past week of mental, emotional, physical, and
financial pressures that took their toll.

and my biorhythm plot shows it.

all culminated with lost of a very good friend who lost his 3rd
round battle with cancer on april 1st. his funeral was yesterday,
april 6th.

in addition, my joking about my 'chemo brain' is becoming a new
reality as lymphoma swelling in lymph nodes my neck seems to be
increasing again.

so, my apologies to group that i was "blunt" with a poster that
showed little respect or concern for a simple request.

his attitude is most obvious in his lack of response to rest of
my post and his lack of response to your post. i can understand
to my reply, but not to yours.

Allegedly, on or about 05 April 2014, Rafnews sent:

Sounds like it does have controllable fans, then. There's a chance that
it requires the OS to control them. Though some things seem to manage
it with the hardware (e.g. a computer sitting at the BIOS boot screen
might start up with the fans whizzing fast, but slow down once the
temperature sensors are checked). On the computers that I have with
speed controlled fans, they've "just worked" for me, without having to
do anything.

The next question would be is the computer blasting out hot air or cool
air? Hot air indicates that something is doing hard work. Cool air
indicates that the fans are needlessly revving.

As the blunt person had said, please don't top post on this list. If
your mail client makes that next-to-impossible, consider replying
without quoting any of the prior message, instead.

anyway, seems your laptop is not working as bragged by;

do you have a different model than shown at above link?

stating that ambient [note correct spelling] is 20-21 °C is
interesting to know. more important, what is °C exiting each of
the 2 exhaust ports? that is, presuming that you have 2 exhausts
as show in pix at above link.

being that you reveled a key indicator, your using oos 7 and
tooting about how great it is, it tells me that you have most
likely not done any research on you own. oos users find it
easier to just ask and not bother to search on their own.

so, a quick search with ixquick.com for;

  "fan speed" host:fedoraproject.org

gives 44 hits;

https://ixquick.com/do/search?q=%22fan+speed%22+host%3Afedoraproject.org&lui=english

among which, more relevant are 1st 2. next 3 you need look at also.

Have you tried installing the proprietary NVidia driver? You need to
enable the RPMfusion repo and from then on it's easy.

Some of those things may be causing your CPU to run hot, in themselves.
If the fans don't spin down when the computer is very idle, then you may
have fans without speed control, or your computer is overheating.

Fans can only cool things down, so much. If the computer is in a hot
environment, it's going to overheat.

If the airflow is blocked, then it can't cool down very much. Air vents
in the computer need to be cleaned. The dust and fluff in heatsinks
needs to be removed.

If the heatsinks are not in good contact with the CPU, or other hot
devices, then they don't do their job. They have to be flush against
the surface of the device. And they work a lot better when there's
heatsink compound between the device and the heatsink. It's often a
kind of paste, though sometimes it's a squishy solid (thin) object.

Your fans are running because the CPU is hot. The question you need to

1. when i'm telling that my fan runs at 100%, it's to not tell between
90, 95 100 or 80%... let's say it is a lot faster than under windows 7
on the same hardware.
so if windows 7 with ASUS software can adjust speed to make it quiet
(there are 2 fans - 1 for CPU + 1 for GPU) i guess a wonderful OS like
Fedora/linux can do better :D

before you consider controlling cpu / gpu fans, there are 2

1- _if_ fan speed is variable, it is usually done so by temp

why is it you feel a need to change what is, or maybe already

When this box was delivered it worked but sounded as if it was ready for
takeoff. It turned out that only one memory slot (of four) was
occupied. Adding a second memory module cured it.
