That makes no sense. That library is _The_ Standard C Library (from glibc),
which basically is a requirement for almost everything on your system.

  $ rpm --test --erase glibc 21|wc -l

Not so with libbz2 from package bzip2-libs, but it's needed by RPM itself
and hence becomes very important. You won't be able to remove it without
removing rpm.

 Comments?

Hardly possible beyond what I've written above.

You rip things out of context. Truncated output from Yum isn't good. One
cannot see if anything tries to replace/remove/upgrade library packages in
an incompatible way, for example. The errors you see refer to libs that
are essential for Fedora 21.

Which puts this error in the category of Impossible, but it's happening.

Or it was.

What I shared with everyone, was the full output of the details from a
dialog box after a failed attempt to use the tools that Dragon called,
to install packages having the necessary codecs.

But I might have solved the problem.

First, I did this after rebooting. I had to reboot for another reason:
the updater couldn't seem to find an old kernel that needed removal to
keep the number of kernel packages to three or fewer.

Second, the system ran an update cycle.

So I just brought up Apper and installed a large number of gstreamer and
gstreamer1 packages. They included every package that Dragon mentioned
as being necessary. If it wasn't already installed, I installed it. That
included crystalhd, bad, bad-free, bad-free-extras, and ugly.
Also the two libnice packages.

Once I had done all these things, my videos, including MP4 and FLV and
MOV and AVI videos, would play in Dragon.

Dragon used to find missing packages by itself. Something went wrong in
this upgrade, and Dragon could not function entirely up to par. But I
seem to have my system (actually systems, since I have a desktop and a
laptop) back in good repair.

Dragon can't find its codecs after upgrade to F21

2014-12-17 Thread Temlakos

I've found my first problem after upgrading to F21.

Back when I was running F20, I had managed to find and install just
about every codec I needed to play videos of every description in Dragon.

Now, Dragon is trying to install those codecs and finding out I already
have them installed.

Or do I? Sometimes when I try to install something, it starts talking
about all the unresolved dependencies it has.

This affects video and audio codecs for Dragon.

Now the only thing that works for playing video, is vlc. That still works.

I get messages asking me to file a bug, but I don't know what product to
file it against.

Have you got RPMFUSION repos installed, codecs are there in
rpmfusion-nonfree.

Oh, I have RPMfusion installed, all right.

It's just that somehow I have the codecs installed already, but Dragon
won't recognize them. And when I try to remove them, I get more error
messages about unsatisfied dependencies.

This is the kind of message I get:
