Opera developer is more recent than stable. If you want to install

> > How going on ?

So, you can probably use packages from older fedoras and install them
on F32 if you need them. You'll want to exclude them in
/etc/dnf/dnf.conf, or they will be removed as obsolete with each
update. But, you are assuming any security risk. Of course, that risk
has existed for years. Your call. Installing them will probably allow
your opera mail package (another dead upstream) to work again.

I think this is the situation that modules / flatpacks etc. is meant
to solve by grouping the obsolete software into a single unit.
However, that doesn't remove any security concerns that the obsolete
packages could be exploited, as I understand it.

I would suggest that you un-install the whatever opera is on your system.

Then, install the opera repo using  (found at rpm.opera.com)

sudo tee /etc/yum.repos.d/opera.repo <https://rpm.opera.com/rpm
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=https://rpm.opera.com/rpmrepo.key
enabled=1
RPMREPO

And then

sudo dnf install opera-stable

This way you'll get the latest version as well as any updates.

I know nothing about "Opera Mail".  But a google search indicates it is no
longer available and no longer
supported.

But, I doubt older versions will run on the latest versions of Fedora as the
library versions have changed.

Opera Mail & Browser after upgrading Fedora31 to Fedora32 . Ed Greshko.

2020-05-03 Thread Ger van Dijck

Hi all , Hi Ed ,

I did some thinking and studying : A long time ago I found somewhere
opera-stable-54.0.2952.71-1.fc29R.x86_64.rpm but I don't know and have
fotgotten where .
I installed it and in the version fc29, -fc30, and -fc31 it runs fine. In
the version fc32 the application won't launch : So I reinstalled it and
got the message already installed.
I can imagine that this old rpm (fc29) is outdated ,so the question is
where can I find the newest version (opera-stable-68.0.3618.63-0 ((fc32R))
.x86_64.rpm if it exists and install it and then try to launch this newest
application  onder fc32 ?

Second problem : Also a long time ago , don't ask me when or where I found
opera-12.16-1860.x86_64.rpm and installed it. Purpose was and is the
possibility to use opera mail wich long ago was under fedora to use and
since the browser was separated opera mail is not running under fedora .
In the versions fc28 , -fc29 , -fc-30 and -fc31 no problems runs fine . In
the version fc32 it is gone . So I tried the reinstall it and got the
following messages

Libgstreamer-0.10.so.0
Libgstbase-0.10.so.0
Libgstvideo-0.10.so.0

are missing.

How going on ?

Kind regards ,

Ger van Dijck.

What problems are you having?

[egreshko@f32g ~]$ uname -r

[egreshko@f32g ~]$ rpm -q opera-stable

So, it is working just fine for me.

Do you have the opera repo installed?

Opera Browser and Opera Mail under Fedora 32.

2020-05-02 Thread Ger van Dijck

Hi all,

I upgraded Fedora31 to Fedora32 and suddenly missed Opera Mail and Opera
Browser.

Question : Is there a way (rpm) to install  Opera under F32 ?

I had a solution under F31 : For the Browser I did install Opera stable
and for the Mail agent I did install very long ago a older version (I
belief 12) with the browser and mail combined .

Any help would be usefull ,

So you haven't a problem with, let's say Youtube?
Maybe it's a hardware acceleration issue. Live streaming usually

I don't know your desktop but I'd suggest to take a look into the
hardware/video configuration.

Re: stuttering/choppy audio/video from chrome/opera

2016-03-25 Thread bruce
oh. ps.

the issue seems to happen with "live" streaming.. i can stream stuff that's
coming from a file server.. ie canned vids/shows/etc.. but something like a
sports event that's happening.. that's choppy

if i reboot, the issue appears to be resolved.

thanks

Besides, does it happens with all sites or just some?

stuttering/choppy audio/video from chrome/opera

2016-03-25 Thread bruce
Hey guys.

There's a pusleaudio thread, I didn't want to step on.

I've got a system, and for some reason, I'm getting choppy audio when
running opera/chrome. I've gone into chrome, and I have enabled/disabled
the soundflash plugins.. I see 2 in the chrome:plugins for the chrome
browser.

I'm trying to find a soln short of rebooting. Any pointers would be useful..

I've seen this behaviour from a number other people on diff sites.

And yeah, I know this isn't technically a fed issue!!

Thanks in advance for any pointers you might provide on this.

It is problem of accessing the globus site. The Firefox was loading
with an infinite mount of time, nothing turned up. Yes, you were
guessing right, I can not watch mov video, e.g.,

But this is not the main problem at a moment.

Probably I need additional plugin, apart from those already there. I

The network is active. In fact, I open several tabs for accessing some
other sites at the same time, and only the http://www.globus.org/
which does not turn up.
I have now two PCs, each with Firefox and F14. Both can not access that site.

That's not what I was asking about. If you try to reach that site and

 I do not know which part to check, no Tools menu.

I do not know what Opera version you have, but on my ver 10.10 and higher
I can see the Menu Bar:
File Edit ... Tools Help

If you can not see it then you have to configure the browser:
in the upper left corner, on the second bar, there must be an icon (first one)
- click your mouse on it and a menu pops up, on which you select
Show Menu Bar

Any way,
let's concentrate on Firefox only for now to fix the problem with that site.

Now tell me how do you access Internet from your machine:
- your machine talks directly (dial-up, ethernet, etc) to ISP ?
- your machine has some kind of modem/router (ADSL, etc) that in turn talks to
  your ISP ?
- your machine is part of a network (corporate ?), thru which you reach ISP
  and Internet ?

Just to avoid any surprises in your Firefox config, make sure there is no proxy
between FF and your machine/outside network:
Edit - Preferences - Advanced - Network - Connection Settings
note (and tell us) what was in there, and then configure it to:
No proxy
then click OK, and Close to finish config procedure.
You may restart Firefox to make sure it took effect.

In Firefox,
- clear your cache
  Tools - Clear Recent History
  Time range to clear: Everything
  Details: check off all items
  click Clear Now
- now input:
  www.globus.org
  and tell us what exactly is the response you get ?
- now input:
  http://192.5.186.47
  and tell us what exactly is the response you get ?

Give us unedited output of:
$ ping -c 1 www.globus.org
$ ping -c 1 192.5.186.47
$ dig www.globus.org
$ dig 192.5.186.47
$ whois www.globus.org
$ whois 192.5.186.47

That implies a routing issue, outside your box. (I used to do senior
support for an ISP; I know these things.)

 pingwww.globus.org
 PINGwww.globus.org  (192.5.186.47) 56(84) bytes of data.
 From hpc240rtr-guava-gwv677.anchor.anl.gov (130.202.222.113)
 icmp_seq=24 Packet filtered

The machine is probably behind a firewall that doesn't accept pings to
prevent DDOS attacks.  Try this:

traceroute www.globus.org

If you get lots of timeouts, you may need to use ICMP packets, but for
some weird reason, that requires root. (I do it often enough that I've
set suid on /bin/traceroute but I'm not suggesting anybody else do
that.) If the above gets complaints, use this instead:

su -c 'traceroute -I www.globus.org'

Will show you how close you're getting and if there's any routing
problems. I used su -c because I *don't* use sudo on my home machine
and don't expect anybody else to either. YMMV, and if you're more happy
with sudo, substitute as needed; it's your machine, not mine.

Once you've documented where the issue is, call your ISP and let them
deal with it because that's what you're paying them for.

Correct. It's possible that there's something in the source of the page
that your copy of Firefox doesn't like. I belong to a site that pays me
to take surveys. Once in a while, the first page of the survey either
never stops loading, or loads to a blank page. I've tried viewing the

So it's likely your network is configured properly, although your

The videos on the Globus site are .mov files. Perhaps you don't have
