Re: Problems with webDAV and rsync
I can confirm that after further testing. Just tested cp with larger files (around 15 MB) in F16 (not working) and Mac OS X (Snow Leopard, working). Rsync also works in OS X. So it seems that indeed davfs2 is the problem. Does anybody know an alternative? Hi everybody, unfortunately I have the same problem (I want to use davfs2 on my Synology Diskstation to automatically backup data to livedrive using local rsync to the mounted folder). Copying starts but soon I get input/output errors. :-( So, does anybody know an alternative to davfs2 or a solution to the problem? Problems with webDAV and rsync
I've rented some space at livedrive.com which I wanted to use as an online backup. Livedrive offers access via webdav and (s)ftp. When I mount the webdav share (using davfs2 or gvfs) and start rsyncing files this always fails with error 5 (input/output error) or error 2 (no such file). Same problem when mounting via sftp (sshfs/gvfs) but transfer is even slower then. Originally I wanted to use encfs to encrypt the files but didn't even start testing it as the normal rsync fails. As I'm not sure wether the problem is the webdav-mount or the remote host it would be great to know if someone has similar problems with webdav-mounts or if somebody has a solution to this problem. I can use OwnCloud so long as I get it set up via the web browser. A mount using davfs2 simply won't work and you can see OwnCloud rejecting the chunked authentication pieces via a tcpdump or wireshark snoop session. I don't know if this would affect scp or sshfs. If they temporarily mount the filesystem via davfs2 to do the move, this might affect it as well. Hopefully the hoster knows what they are doing and can tell me if it depends on that. Maybe I should just cross check using my old Mac but don't know at all what kind of mounting mechanism Apple is using. If that's basing on davfs2 too I still can't blame it on the hoster. Any other ideas on testing this issue would be apreciated. I can say that the folk here that use Macs (OSX, not sure which flavor) seem to be able to use OwnCloud with no problems apparently, so it must not chunk the authentication. I'm the only guy who's purely Linux-based. They try to get me to switch and I do have a functional Hackintosh (running a legit copy of OSX I bought from Apple so I'm only a hardware pirate), but since I'm a Linux developer it'd be rather silly for me to go Mac. But now as I see OS X more and more developing towards a closed system (and getting more and more windows-like bugs) I've decided to switch (back) to linux.
