Just to close this off: I removed and reinstalled the BT mouse under Gnome and now it works (including under KDE). Does the mouse work with the USB dongle on the laptop? I did a 'tail -f /var/log/Xorg.0.log' while plugging/unplugging the wired mouse, and that all shows up as expected. Are there any log file entries, or entries in relevant configuration files, related to the problem?
