I don't think that you'll have compatibility problems with any ebook readers; probably all of them look like pen drives (USB mass storage device, or whatever) to Linux, though you're safer with ones that have an SD Card slot. But the 6'' devices are, in my experience, pretty useless for pdfs that can not or should not be "reflown", that is, those that need to look exactly like they do on paper. I've never seen an IMF report (I never cared for horror :-)) but if they have tables in them, you'll probably be frustrated to no end. Google for people's experiences with pdfs on, say, Kindle. Definitely the Kindle. As was said before, you can mount it as a standard USB drive and copy files onto and off of it. In addition, the PDF support is better (IMO) than other devices. Especially given that you can alter the orientation of the display so that each page of a tech manual PDF is split in half and fully readable in landscape mode. And the battery life is awesome. Especially the fact that you can get Cyanogen on it, that opens it up completely into a general purpose tablet computer.
