Redshift and geoclue problems

2022-01-12 Thread ToddAndMargo via users

Hi All,

Fedora 35
redshift-1.12-13.fc35.x86_64
geoclue2-2.5.7-6.fc35.x86_64

If I manually start geoclue

# systemctl start geoclue.service

as root, redshift can communicate with
geoclue2 and redshift works fine.

But redshift can not start geoclue,
unless geoclue was started as root first:

 $ redshift
Waiting for initial location to become available...
 Unable to start GeoClue client:
 GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied:
disallowed, no agent for UID 500.
Access to the current location was denied by GeoClue!
Make sure that location services are enabled and that
Redshift is permitted to use location services. See
https://github.com/jonls/redshift#faq for more information.
Unable to get location from provider.

can not start geoclue as a standard user
(group = 500 or users).

I have redshift in /etc/geoclue/geoclue.conf:

[redshift]
allowed=true
system=false
users=

Redshift is "suppose" to be able to start geoclue
manually as a user.

What gives?

Many thanks,
-T

Yes

Go into
     ~/.config/redshift.conf

and set it to manual and set start and stop times

If you really, really want the magic to work and geoclue fails you need
to give it the latitude and longitude and use a UTC clock. It looks as
if the position format is as below (for Munich via VPN from Taiwan ?).

> Location: 48.10 N, 11.60

Copenhagen (see below) would be 55.7 N, 12.6 E

man redshift:

Example for Copenhagen, Denmark:

    $ redshift -l 55.7:12.6 -t 5700:3600 -g 0.8 -m vidmode -v

Gnome integrated this in its own settings as a "Night Light" couple of

I place no faith in that kind of thing helping insomnia, at all. But
taking out the extreme blue can be easier on the eyes, in general. For
me, at least, blue is the hardest colour for my eyes to focus on, so I
get less chromatic aberrations when it's reduced. But I don't like
making things look abnormally amber.

I work in video production, and I still find most monitors are way too
blue. The monitors look nothing like the thing in front of the camera,
even when lit with daylight.

I reinstalled the dropbox RPM from dropbox.com and it still didn't
work, but the one from RPMFusion Nonfree replaced that one this morning
and now it is working.

Re: Redshift and Dropbox not quite working after F24-F25 upgrade

2016-11-25 Thread Eric Griffith
Not sure about Dropbox, but RedShift is a known issue. Redshift's model doesn't
work under Wayland, the default session in F25. The same idea as RedShift has
been / is working on being integrated into upstream Gnome and will work its way
down to users in a future update. It still works under X, however.

You can go back to using X by logging out, and hitting the gear next to the
"login" button. From there, hit "Gnome on Xorg" and login.

Cheers!

Redshift and Dropbox not quite working after F24-F25 upgrade

2016-11-25 Thread Matthew Saltzman
I have two GNOME workstations upgraded from F24 to F25. Before the
upgrade, Dropbox and Redshift were accessible from the little slide-out
task bar at the lower left of the screen. Now, on one I see Dropbox but
not Redshift and on the other, I don't have the slide-out drawer at
all. According to GNOME Tweak-Tool, both apps are listed on the startup
panel.

So far, everything else seems to have gone smoothly.

How to debug? TIA.

Redshift saved my eyes

2012-07-05 Thread Christopher Svanefalk
If you, like me, spend long hours at night in front of the screen, please
do yourself a favor and install the Redshift package immediately.

You will not regret it.

Would be nice if you'd elaborated.  Who is responsible for it, where does it
come from, what does it do specifically, etc...

Re: Redshift saved my eyes

2012-07-05 Thread Christopher Svanefalk
Redshift is simply a background service which adjusts the warmth of your
screen color depending on the time of day. As the hours drag away into the
night, they will move deeper and deeper into a warm, reddish shade (hard to
describe, try it out), which is very easy on your eyes. I find it much more
comfortable to work with it.

You can find the devblog here: http://jonls.dk/redshift/

The program itself is available as a package, just ask PackageKit to search
for Redshift.

I've yet to see any data saying it has any medically measurable effect,
while taking a break, going and doing something else, or going to sleep
definitely do !

Its a nice package but I'm not sure its as useful as a regular break

These are luxuries for overworked students, so we are happy for any
technical alternatives ;)
