Now it's working. I had taken the batteries out, and left them out for
a while, and I think that's what did it. I tested the replacement
batteries before I put them in there, and they were 1.4v, so they were
good enough.

I have an older MS wireless keyboard/mouse combo (Wireless 7000), and
didn't even realize the LED that is on it is also a switch. Never had
a problem with it (but used it so much the letters wore off the keys!
Good thing I can touch-type :-)

Anyway, there is no such button on the new one I have, the Wireless 5000.

It's really beyond me how it's working now. It wasn't a case of
putting the batteries in upside-down, or low batteries, but problem
resolved.

Thanks everyone!
Best,
Alex

My MS wireless mouse 3000 occasionally fails to be recognized by
fedora. most of the time simply removing and re-inserting the USB
dongle solves the problemf. If not, pushing BOTH reset buttons
seems to fix it. (both: dongle and mouse)

Since your computer is still detecting the receiver you have a hardware issue
and not a Linux issue.

Are you sure the "new" battery is actually good? Replace it again and see if
the problem goes away.

My Microsoft wireless mouse(s) (I have several) have a button on top of the
receiver and on the bottom of the mouse. Pressing those apparently resets the
connection in some way.

I have found that when my mouse battery dies I get no warning at all. The
cursor just suddenly stops moving on the screen. The first few times it
happened I assumed that the computer had locked up in some way, in fact,
particularly because the little red light on the bottom of the mouse was still
on as normal. But all it takes to get it going again is to put a new battery
into the mouse and generally it's not necessary to push the reset buttons on
the mouse and the receiver.

Wireless mouse not detected

2010-12-12 Thread Alex
Hi,

I have a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse, and the battery died
in the mouse, so I replaced it. Now the mouse doesn't work at all. All
the instructions that I've found online are for use with Windows. Any
idea if I have to somehow reset the mouse, or how do go about
troubleshooting this?

generic-usb 0003:045E:0745.0009: input,hidraw1: USB HID v1.11 Mouse
[Microsoft Microsoft® 2.4GHz Transceiver v6.0] on
usb-:00:13.0-3/input1

It detects the mouse and keyboard, but the mouse doesn't function. The
keyboard works just fine.

It's a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000, model 1387. There is a small
momentary switch on the bottom of the mouse, but it doesn't appear to
do anything, and can't find any reference to it online either.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Alex
