I think the application should really provide enough information for the user to make an informed decision. Maybe check it's bug reports / development radar, to see if it's already on the developer's list. Is Gnome Software Centre giving any further details ? I had a bunch of updates in apper this morning, and quite a few of them showed the not from a trusted source warning. I'm at a loss to figure out how to get more information from the message. Which package? coming from where?
