But that doesn't do anyone any good. The spammer certainly isn't going
to care (or even read it), and the _rest_ of the list just gets more
off-topic mail. The point of my message was to let everyone know that
list admins are aware and that you don't need to give additional
reports (or, indeed, continue responding to the spammer).

I have no idea if that spammer is still active or not because any 
further messages from that address are deleted before I see them.  That 
was part of the point of my original message; the other part was the 
implicit suggestion that others do the same.
