[one-users] Backup and Restore

2013-10-31 Thread Soeren Malchow
Dear all,

i already searched the documentation and the mailing list, but did not come up
with an answer.

I would like to know how to backup virtual machines in OpenNebula WITHOUT
shutting the down, or if there is a solution at all.

We have an existing backup system that should be reused, exposure of the
virtual machines images files or something like that should be sufficient.

Can anybody point me into the right direction ?

Soeren

use dynamic (vmware) or pre-defined (dummy) network mode.

Re: [one-users] Backup and Restore

2013-10-31 Thread Carlo Daffara
There are many solutions; apart from using kvm snapshots (and later image
rebuild to have a single clone) we prefer the use of a filesystem that allows
for atomic snapshots (like BTRFS) or
a distributed filesystem with the same properties (like Ceph). You snapshot the
entire datastore or the single file you want, and then reimport it within
opennebula.
Take care of one thing: if you are using cache=writeback in KVM (or the
equivalent in xen or vmware) you are risking inconsistencies, unless you stop
the VM, as there are probably outstanding writes that needs to be committed to
disk that will not appear in the snapshot at all.

[one-users] OpenNebula LVM Datastore 4.2 Documentation

2013-10-31 Thread Valentin Bud
Dear Community,

I was trying to use the LVM datastore driver [1] and followed the docs
to set it up.

I have found a bug in the docs. oneadmin needs password-less sudo
permissions for:

  * lvremove
  * lvcreate
  * lvs
  * dd
  * *vgdisplay*

vgdisplay(8) is used to monitor [2] the datastore. Without this the
datastore reports 0 size and images cannot be registered.

Re: [one-users] windows vm lose NIC driver

2013-10-31 Thread Tino Vazquez
Hi,

Ok, now that we know that you are using the dynamic network node let's
see if everything is in place.

Could you please check that a port group one-pg-vnid is created in
the ESX's vSwitch0, where vnid is the id of the virtual network that
uses vSwitch0 as a bridge.

If that port group is created, the next step would be to check if the
VM is really attached to that port group. You can do that by
inspecting the settings of the VM through the VMware VI client.

If everything is correct and you still don't see the NIC within the
guest OS, there is a couple of things that can be tried:

 * set E1000 as the NIC model (NIC=[MODEL=E1000,..]) in the VM
template and launching the VM again
 * install the VMware tools in the guestOS

-Tino

2013-10-31 Thread Tino Vazquez
Hi,

Ok, it seems that the OCCI server is working. The problem that you
refer is that you cannot create VMs through the OCCI server, am I

In that case, I would need to know the output of

the above is the preferred way to create VMs through OCCI, instead of
using curl.

Hi Mike

Thank you very much for sharing, great doc!

Could we get more details about still does not work for me (VMs don't
instantiate)? So we can clear any issue and complete the document?

Thanks

Ruben

Perhaps this will help others, trying to do what I am attempting to do -- just
bring up ONE 4.2 for a Developer/DevOps Cloud + Host node. In my case, I
must write some Cloud automation code in Python, against the OCCI APIs.

Any changes or comments appreciated! Thank you.

Re: [one-users] my DevOps install notes for openSUSE 12.3 on Github --- (WAS: First post - Error on New install of Open Nebula on OpenSuSE 12.3)

2013-10-31 Thread Ruben S. Montero
Hi Mark

It seems that your domain is trying to boot from /vmlinuz that cannot be
found in the host. This primitive is not in your original template as shown
in the template of VM 13 (there is no OSKERNEL).

So this is most probably coming from the driver configuration file. Could
you check (and remove) /etc/vmm_exec/vmm_exec_kvm.conf for a line setting
KERNEL to /vmlinuz?

Cheers

Ruben

Re: [one-users] my DevOps install notes for openSUSE 12.3 on Github --- (WAS: First post - Error on New install of Open Nebula on OpenSuSE 12.3)

2013-10-31 Thread Mark Biggers
Hello Ruben:

** Yow, I should have seen this one! ( this .conf had OS[ KERNEL = /vmlinuz ] )

  cd /etc/one/vmm_exec
  diff -ub  vmm_exec_kvm.conf.dist vmm_exec_kvm.conf | dpaste

  SEE  http://dpaste.de/Q4HI

** Had a failure to VM instantiate (onevm delete --recreate), due to ebtables
path:

  # Note: hard-coded paths in this Ruby script, to Linux networking tools...

  (from grep) /var/lib/one/remotes/vnm/OpenNebulaNetwork.rb

 31 -
 32 - COMMANDS = {
 33 :   :ebtables = sudo /sbin/ebtables,
 34 +   :iptables = sudo /sbin/iptables,
 35 +   :brctl= sudo /sbin/brctl,

  !! WORKAROUND
  cd /usr/sbin; for cmd in ebtables iptables; do sudo ln -s /usr/sbin/$cmd
/sbin/; done

** My first VM is instantiated, and running. Now to fix the missing
VNC-console proxy, for my VM (as seen from Sunstone UI)

thank you,
mark
