Re: [one-users] Closing OpenNebula 4.4 Cycle, Planning for 4.6

2014-01-09 Thread Nikita Balashov
 Hi all,

Feature #1727 "Patch for one.image.resize to resize image" is also useful
for OpenVZ images as it also allows to specify image size on deploy.

Nikita

The Ubuntu Cloud Images are able to resize themself during the first boot
(see http://packages.ubuntu.com/saucy/cloud-initramfs-growroot, installed
by default on the cloud images). So you just need the original image (which
is 2GB) and specify the size you need in the template. This is mainly very
useful for the public cloud interface where you could provide some
templates to the users which specifies not only the ram size and cpu count,
but also the image size. So you don't have to prepare an image for every
size you'd like to provide.

To extend the public cloud capabilities, a customer management and billing
interface (think of "oneacct" extended to the webinterface) would be a nice
feature I'd like to see in the future.
Better handling of VMs which are stopped by the user from inside the VM
(f.e. "shutdown -h now") would make admins life easier.
I also vote for the following Redmine tickets assigned to "Release 4.6"
target version:
* #2453 "Add hostname configuration to contexualization"
* #1818 "Support for IP reservations"

Looking forward to comments on my ideas.

2014-01-09 Thread Kenneth

I agree with RBD format 2.

And thanks a lot to the OpenNebula team
for bringing the cloud infrastructure closer to end system
administrators.

I would specifically like to request to have the
option of over-committing memory (ram) to VMs just like how you can set
over commit in CPU.

Re: [one-users] Can't install VMware ESXI 5.5, 5.1 and 5.0 onto the PC with Asus P5QPL-AM motherboard and Intel E6750 CPU

2014-01-09 Thread Qiubo Su (David Su)
Dear OpenNebula Community,

In the "VMware Configuration" section of "VMware Drivers 3.8" in the page
of http://archives.opennebula.org/documentation:archives:rel3.8:evmwareg,
below information is for setting "The access via SSH needs to be
passwordless":

$ su -
$ mkdir /etc/ssh/keys-oneadmin
$ chmod 755 /etc/ssh/keys-oneadmin
$ su - oneadmin
$ vi  /etc/ssh/keys-oneadmin/authorized_keys
 $HOME/.ssh/id_{rsa,dsa}.pub) and exit vi>
$ chmod 600 /etc/ssh/keys-oneadmin/authorized_keys

After the setup, can access via ESXI server from front end server through
SSH without password, however when reboot the ESXI server, the setup is
disappeared, i.e. the /keys-oneadmin/ folder and the authorized_keys file
are disappeared after reboot the ESXI server.

It is much appreciated if you can help with why the setup disappeared and
how to resolve it?

By the way, the front end server is with Ubuntu 12.04 OS and OpenNebula
3.8.1, the ESXI server is with CentOS 5.10 OS.

Thanks kindly,
Q.S.

[one-users] OpenNebula node package broke sudo?

2014-01-09 Thread Bradfield, James
Ran the yum package installer for opennebula-node-kvm on a remote RHEL 6 box
last thing yesterday before leaving, finished the install, and logged out.
Logged back into the same machine today and got the following error dump
whenever I tried to use sudo:

sudo: >>> /etc/sudoers.d/opennebula: Alias `ONE_MISC' already defined near line
4 <<<
sudo: >>> /etc/sudoers.d/opennebula: Alias `ONE_NET' already defined near line

4 <<<
sudo: parse error in /etc/sudoers.d/opennebula near line 4
sudo: no valid sudoers sources found, quitting
sudo: unable to initialize policy plugin

Clearly some duplicate definitions got created during the install process (not
sure how, I’m like 99% sure these machines didn't have OpenNebula on them at
any point before); unfortunately, I can’t sudo to fix it (since sudo is broken,
obviously), don’t have the root password, and can't boot recovery since it’s a
remote box (and I can't reboot the box from command line anyway since I don't
have sudo). I’ve contacted the local IT guy who should be able to fix it
easily, but I groused about it on Twitter and got asked to send this into the
mailing list, so here you go.

[one-users] Multiple guests running after failed cleanup

2014-01-09 Thread Matthew Richardson
Hi,

I'm running a ONE 4.2 pool, and had some issues with it earlier today.

I had some vm hosts lock up due to networking issues, where the vm hosts
could see the rest of the world, but not be reached by the ONE server.

As a result, the ONE server called a hook script:

VM_HOOK = [ name = "on_crash_boot", on = "UNKNOWN", command =
"/usr/bin/env onevm boot", arguments = "$ID" ]

This resulted in an attempted cleanup (which appears to fail due to the
ongoing network problems) followed by a restart elsewhere. However, the
failed cleanup meant that I then had 2 instances of the same guest
running on 2 vm hosts, which led to mac address conflicts on the network.

Is this a bug in ONE's handling of cleanup failure, or is there
something else I should be doing in my hook script to ensure that it is
safe to call onevm boot?

Any advice appreciated! (other than to take better care of the network :) )

thanks,

Matthew

No, we are lagging behind, we install 3.8 one week before 4.0 was out,
upgrade to 4.2 1 month before 4.4 was out...

No as it's 4.2.

The last things I did was to create a dedicated view for a user group to
add informations like VM logs etc.

I modify some ACLs but:

- oneadmin group seems not concerned by them

- it works in CLI

onevm list command, you can apply the same to the oneimage command:

Have you recently upgraded from one 4.2 -> 4.4? Do you have the
following in your sunstone-server.conf:

# Default language setting
:lang: en_US

# Default table order
:table_order: desc

If not, add them and restart sunstone (if you're running 4.4 that is).

Hello,

In sunstone, the oneadmin user do not see any VMs in the vm-tab.

It works With the CLI, so the problem looks to be specific to sunstone.

I should have done something but can't figure what, do you have any
hints on what should I check?

[one-users] Dynamically resize disk size with templates

2014-01-09 Thread Tobias Brunner

Hi,

The Ubuntu Cloud Images are able to resize themself during the first
boot if the default size of 2GB is changed. Could this process be used
to dynamically resize the images size with a template variable? It would
be very nice because you just need to save the image once and the set
the disk size using the template (just like how much ram, cpu, ... is
assigned).

Cheers,
Tobias

I have a vmware vm on my pc acting as the "cloud controller" (running

I originally gave the controller a 20GB disk via vmware, but because I

Inside the controller fdisk -l shows a 100GB disk, but tha datastore

2014-01-09 Thread Tino Vazquez
Hi Gerry,

You can set it in /etc/one/oned.conf,

MONITORING_INTERVAL=10

The default is 10 seconds. You need to restart OpenNebula after making
the change.

Hi Sven,

thanks for the feedback, I've opened a ticket [1] to keep track of the
solution in future releases.

About the behaviour you are experiencing, the VM is not being
monitored because it is not running, but rather in the failed state.
Check the VM log (var/log/one/.log), where vid is the id of the
failed vm (2 in this case).

Re: [one-users] OpenNebula 4.4 Problem with VMWARE ESX The state of "onehost list" always is "RETRY"

2014-01-09 Thread Tino Vazquez
Hi Sven,

thanks for the feedback, I've opened a ticket [1] to keep track of the
solution in future releases.

About the behaviour you are experiencing, the VM is not being
monitored because it is not running, but rather in the failed state.
Check the VM log (var/log/one/.log), where vid is the id of the
failed vm (2 in this case).

Best regards,

-Tino

Re: [one-users] V4.4 sqlite bug? error: columns vmid, last_poll are not unique

2014-01-09 Thread Tino Vazquez
Hi Gerry,

This is an error message, so it cannot be disabled. A lower monitoring
interval value would help, but the monitoring information won't be as
precise.

Regards,

-Tino
