[one-users] Call for translations OpenNebula 4.6 (DL 25th April)

2014-03-18 Thread Daniel Molina
Dear community,

As OpenNebula 4.6 comes closer, we would like to launch a call for
translations of our web-based user interface: Sunstone.

It is very easy: the existing translations can be updated and new
translations submitted through our project site at Transifex
*https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/one/
https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/one/*

The process is as follows:
 * Log in to Transifex. You can easily register or login with using your
Twitter, LinkedIn, Google or Facebook accounts
 * Click on the language you want to translate and the resource (Sunstone)
 * Hit Translate now and start translating right away through
the Transifex website

If the language is not available, you can request the creation of a new
language for that resource. If you have a translation file ready outside
Transifex for a new language, please upload it there.

Transifex offers advanced features for translators. You can check their
documentation[1] for more information.

Translations reaching a good level of completion will be included in the
official final release of OpenNebula. Deadline for translations is Friday,
25th of April.

Thanks for your collaboration!

 Whats the solution

Your OpenNebula fails to start because there is a problem with the
/etc/one/oned.conf file. Check that it exists, and that oneadmin has read
access.

Did you install from sources, or from packages?

[one-users] force deploy of VM

2014-03-18 Thread Mario Benincasa
Hi all

I have a simple question (well I believe it is simple :-) )
I searched through documentation and mailing list archive, but I wasn't
able to find anything.
Apologies if the question has already been answered somewhere.

After template instantiation, the VM is placed in pending state until the
scheduler decides to run it.
If there are not enough resources, it will remain in pending state.
onevm deploy will anyway run it, even in case of not enough resources.

My question is: is it possible to automatically have the deploy of the VM,
even if the scheduler would leave it in pending state?

I need this for the fault tolerance script: I have two nodes, each running
a certain number of VMs. In case a node crashes, I want the VMs to be
deployed in the surviving node, even if the scheduler disagrees.
Currently, the VMs are left in pending state, thus they are not recovering
the service. Of course a manual onevm deploy would recover, but I would
like to have it automatically :-)
The impacted resource appears to be the RAM: the sum of the VMs' RAM
allocation exceeds the physical RAM, but in real operating conditions the
RAM usage is quite under the allocated RAM, and thus I expect no problem in
such an over provisioning.

Thanks for any hint.

Re: [one-users] Copy image on Ceph to file-based datastore

2014-03-18 Thread Jaime Melis
Hi Stuart,

before moving on to the implementation details, how are you thinking of
specifying if a VM should run from the datastore or from a local file?

I'm afraid this is going to be very tricky, because we need to figure out
how to tell the core to generate a deployment file that references a local
file and not a ceph disk [1]

We want the 'if' to go this way:
https://github.com/OpenNebula/one/blob/master/src/vmm/LibVirtDriverKVM.cc#L502
and not this one:
https://github.com/OpenNebula/one/blob/master/src/vmm/LibVirtDriverKVM.cc#L445

On Thu, Mar 13, 2014 at 8:47 AM, Stuart Longland stua...@vrt.com.au wrote:

 Hi all,

In OpenNebula, it seems we can easily set it up to use Ceph as a
datastore for images, cloning non-persistent images to make temporary
 copies, etc.

We can also have the images stored as files on the frontend computer and
dolled out via SSH; and in the case of persistent images, copied back
 when the VM is undeployed.

What I'm missing is a hybrid between the two. We've got a 3-node Ceph
cluster which is working well. However, compared to a local SSD, the
Ceph cluster with its 6 spinners is a bit on the slow side in comparison.

There are VMs for which we don't care about resiliency, and so it makes
sense to use the SSDs attached to the VM hosts, and store the image
 itself in Ceph.

The thought is, when the VM starts up, rather than having it dished out
from the frontend computer, the host does a:

 rbd export pool-name/image-name
 /var/lib/one/datastores/123/45/disk.0

Then, if the image is persistent, it does a

 rbd import pool-name/image-name
 /var/lib/one/datastores/123/45/disk.0

(Note: not sure if import will overwrite the image, it may be
necessary to do a rbd rm first of the old image... or better, import the
new copy then remove and rename.)

I had a tinker looking at the ssh transfer driver, but couldn't quite
figure out how to reach out to the other datastore without some ugly
 kludges.

Anyone else done somthing like this?

 Regards,

[one-users] Can sunstone 4.0 be deployed on apache2 + passenger

2014-03-18 Thread sam song

hi all,

I saw that we can deploy sunstone on apache2 with passenger module in
the official document. But how about the sunstone of ONE 4.0 version?
How to do that? The same as for ONE 4.4?

In my installation, there are 4 host and about ten vms. There are
several users using sunstone to admin ONE. Today, I found the process
which is running sunstone-server.rb using 100% cpu time for a long time.

The offical document said the default thin server is suit for small or
medium deployment. But how to find it is suit or not?

Thanks

[one-users] Shared + SSH system datastore

2014-03-18 Thread Ondrej Hamada

Hi guys,
I would like to use shared image datastore in combination with SSH
system datastore. Reading the documentation I'm a bit unsure how should
it work. I'm using ONE 4.4 and qcow2 images. What will be the behavior
during VM deployment?

Will be the entire image copied over to the target host or is it
possible to run the VM in snapshot mode and thus reduce the deployment time?

Thank you in advance
