RE: Dependency:unpack version problem

2010-05-05 Thread subir.sasikumar
Use a property for the version + you can also use dependencyManagement.
But I doubt whether dependencyManagement version will flow to
dependency:unpack configurations. So property is best solution.

Subject: Dependency:unpack version problem

Hi all,

I am using the dependency:unpack goal of the maven dependency plugin to
unpack a library that is a dependency of the project itself. This
dependency is an internally maintaned library and is updated frequently.
So whenever the library is updated, we tell our developers to update
their version of the dependency and everything works the way we wanted.

The problem is that, now that I am using the dependency:unpack to copy
some configuration files from the library into the project, I would have
to tell our developers to update the dependency version in two places,
one in the section and other in the section where
I am doing the unpacking

Is there is a better solution to this? Can I only change the version
number in the section and maybe read that version of this
dependency from there in my section?

Or any other ideas?

thanks

Shahzad Qureshi

A.) Use .war as a dependency.
B.) Then configure maven-dependency-plugin:unpack goal and in the
configuration section give group, artifactid and version
C.) Then configure cargo-maven2-plugin with container id as tomcat6x
etc. See details here [1] and [2]

Hi,

I want to install my .war in the tomcat/webapps folder. I want to
retrieve the .war from my maven repository and I don't find the right
command to do that.

Input parameters should be repository url, group, artifact id, version
and it should store the file on disk.

Please help!

Overriding the default lifecycle is extremely over-kill in this case...

Stephen's answer combined with Sabir's example is the solution.

RE: Can we customize maven lifecycle?

2010-05-04 Thread subir.sasikumar
You can attach the goal to the post-clean phase of clean lifecycle.

One way is you may add a executions element in POM for specific plugin.
For example:

{UR-plugin}
{UR-plugin}

{UR-ID}
post-clean

  deep-clean

Hi,
Can anyone please tell me how do I customize a maven lifecycle?
e.g. Clean Lifecycle has got the following
pre-clean
clean
and post-clean,
how about I want to perform a deep-clean after this post-clean is
completed? so that when I try the command "mvn clean" the deep-clean
also takes place(deep-clean is just a name for a goal in my example)

RE: Different behavior of Maven 2 and 3 on Flat Projekt Layout

2010-04-27 Thread subir.sasikumar
You need to add a for parent elements. Its mandatory in
Maven 3.
Add those and your builds should work.

And you can always see other issues about compatibility by googling.

Subject: Dependencies and Aggregation

Hi,

i'm trying to understand the handling of dependencies/aggregation in
Maven...

So i've setup the following structure:

  +--- root (root pom)
  +--- m1
   +--- m1.1
   +--- m1.2
   +--- m1.3
   +--- m1.4
   +--- m1.5
  +--- m2
   +--- m2.1
   +--- m2.2
   +--- m2.3
   +--- m2.4
   +--- m2.5
  +--- m3
   +--- m3.1
   +--- m3.2
   +--- m3.3
   +--- m3.4
   +--- m3.5
  +--- m4
   +--- m4.1
   +--- m4.2
   +--- m4.3
   +--- m4.4
   +--- m4.5

The root-pom has only modules listed (m1, m2, m3, m4)...
The m1 (m2, m3, m4) has a list of modules as well ( m1.1, m1.2 ...
m1.5)...m1 has defined the parent (root-pom)...and the modules m1.1 till
m1.5 has the parent m1 whereas the m2.1 till m2.5 has the parent
m2...and so on...
The modules m1.1 till m4.5 are simple packages which have default
packaging type (jar)...and contain a simple class and of course a test
case for test purposes.

So if i call mvn install on the root pom everything works as expected

So my next step was to define a dependency of one module to an
other...(m3.2)...so in m3.2 pom i used the following:

  ${project.groupId}
  m2.1
  ${project.version}

Ok...just tried to build...mvn install as expected the reactor order
changed

But now i tried something different. I defined the dependency in m3.2's
pom to use m4 as dependency:

  ${project.groupId}
  m2.1
  ${project.version}

  ${project.groupId}
  m4
  ${project.version}
  pom

Ok..tried to build mvn install and was a little bit confused...

The order in the reactor has changed, but only the module m4 itself has
been built before m2 instead of all sub-modules of m4...what i got was
the
following:

 [INFO]

 [INFO] Reactor Summary:
 [INFO]

Maybe i misunderstand the usage of a module ...or do i have to give
simply the modules m4.1...m4.5 as dependency instead of using m4?

The m4 module is a aggregation of multiple modules (m4.1...m4.5) which
are needed as dependency so it would be nice just to give m4 as
dependency

Or does exist an other so

I agree with Aleksey even I use same configurations, and it works perfectly in
copying those non-java files to the relative directories in final artifact.
We use:

Subject: build.properties Question

Hello all,

I have been doing some research to determine if it is possible to load a
set of properties from a normal java properties file. The impression I
am getting it that it might be but only through a relatively obscure
plugin
(http://mvnrepository.com/artifact/org.sonatype.plugins/maven-properties
-plugin/0.0.2).

The thing that really puzzles me is that I am led to believe this use to
be quite straightforward through the use of a build.properties file but
that functionality was lost in Maven 1. Can anyone tell me why this
functionality was removed or, better yet, if there is a flag to turn it
back on?

Thanks,

RE: Maven downloading strange jars

2010-03-22 Thread subir.sasikumar
It might be a transitive dependency to your declared dependencies.
You can run a mvn dependency:tree to see if there is any jms or jdmk
reference.
Use a exclusion to avoid them, if you don't need.

However there could be your plugins also which are using these...So you
could also run mvn -X (debug flag) and see the exact reason.

Why is it downloading those jars. I searched pom.xml and couldn't find

there a way to find out what is causing them to download.
If I open these jars in text editor it says they moved permanently to

Subject: How to perform ordered tasks in Maven2 build

Hi,

I am trying to migrate a Java application built by Ant to Maven2. among
other the build perform the following operations:

1) Running a javadoc doclet to find annotated Java files to be
externalize later as web services
2) compile a small part of the code for step 3
3) run Axis java2wsdl on the compiled code from step 2
4) produce java code with wsdl2java on the wsdl files from step 3
5) compile the entire code

when trying to "mavenize" the process I can accomplish each task at a
time but fail to achieve them all in that order.

to demonstrate my pom and not load you with details I'll show the
following snippet:

org.apache.maven.plugins
maven-javadoc-plugin
2.6.1

aggregate
generate-sources

aggregate

...

org.apache.maven.plugins
maven-compiler-plugin
2.1

compileWSfiles

compile

   generate-sources

org.codehaus.mojo
axistools-maven-plugin
1.3

axis
axis
1.3

java2wsdl
generate-sources

java2wsdl

...

wsdl2java
generate-sources

   wsdl2java

   ...

I pinned all of the build executions on the generate-sources phase and
as far as I know they should run in the order they are defined in the
pom.

The main problem is that I have no control on the order of things and it
is obviously important here as every step output is the next step input.

any suggestions?

Thanks, Ronen.

Then I use the same command again, it will build successfully, that's to

And I have try to add a "-nowarn"

Subject: Dependencies in multi-module project

Hello.

Say, I have two projects: A and B. I always want them to be compiled and
deployed in one time and I decided to use multi-module project:

In the upper directory I've created pom.xml with the following content:

A
B

And it works fine.

But module B depends on module A.

When I do some changes in A and run "mvn compile" on the top level, I
want both modules to be recompiled and module "B" should be compiled
with newly compiled "A".

How can I do it?

If I simply add dependency in module "B"'s pom.xml -- it will use "A"
from repository, and if I did not do "mvn deploy" there would not be
one!

Of course I can add "system" dependency to module "B" and hardcode path
to module "A" (like "../A/target/classes") but that's an ugly hack.

What is the best way to do that?

Thanks.

RE: Configure compiler plugin to compile at integration-test phase??

2010-01-13 Thread subir.sasikumar
Thanks for the clue.

I reordered the logic of execution phase by phase, such that I do all the
required things before test-compile phase.
I was trying to do everything in pre-integration-test phase, and running into
those problems.

Thanks

RE: Configure compiler plugin to compile at integration-test phase??

2010-01-12 Thread subir.sasikumar
I am actually having a war project.

Steps I am doing are:
A.) process-resources phase unpack the war file and make all configurations for
its deployment.
B.) using cargo deploy it to tomcat
C.) using axistools generate wsdl2java. It uses http urls which can be invoked
once the war is deployed and output java stubs to
${pom.build.directory}/generate-sources/it/cp. This is integration-test phase.
D.) Now I want to compile what is available in
${pom.build.directory}/generate-sources/it/cp in integration-test phase.
test-compile phase is well before integration-test phase. At that point I have
no test files, and hence no compilation.
E.) After that in integration-test phase itself I want surefire to trigger
testing with the files I generated in step D.

That was the reason I was trying to use integration-test or
pre-integration-test for compiler plugin.

Will you be able to advice now?

Configure compiler plugin to compile at integration-test phase??

2010-01-12 Thread subir.sasikumar
Hi,

As part of automating Integration Tests for my project using, I am
generating some source codes.
To be specific i am using axistools wsdl2java goal to generated stubs. I
want to compile those and my client which references these stubs before
running integration tests. But now i dont know how i can make those
generated java files to be compiled automatically in (or before)
integration-test phase.

This configuration of compiler plugin *does not* work.

org.apache.maven.plugins
maven-compiler-plugin

  compile-stubs-client
 integration-test

  testCompile

Axistools plugin configuration:

org.codehaus.mojo
axistools-maven-plugin
1.3

http://localhost:${port}/wsi/services/UploadSOServices33?wsdl

http://localhost:${port}/wsi/services/ScheduleSOServices33?wsdl

http://localhost:${port}/wsi/services/ServiceSOServices33?wsdl

http://localhost:${port}/wsi/services/AuxiliarySOServices33?wsdl

http://localhost:${port}/wsi/services/SellableSOServices33?wsdl

${pom.build.directory}/generate-sources/it/cp
   1.2

   integration-test

wsdl2java

  javax.mail
  mail
  ${javax.mail.version}

  javax.activation
  activation
  ${javax.activation.version}

Any clues?

I'm thinking of writing a Mojo that will deploy my application to a web
container. In particular Sun Webserver 7 and Weblogic 10.3.

1. Does something like this already exist?
2. Assuming it does not, where would I start? I know that the Release
plugin allows one to deploy to a repository of some sort but I want it
actually running on one or more containers when I finish.

Clues? Caveats? Concerns?

[Maven-SCM] Quotes in CommandLine is causing failure to scm:update

2009-12-16 Thread subir.sasikumar
Hi,

Platform OS: RHEL 5
Java: 1.6.0_17
Maven: 2.1.0
Maven SCM: 1.3-SNAPSHOT
SCM: CM/Synergy 7.0

Above are the details of my setup.

While executing scm:update command in 'Linux', there is a single quote
which appears in the start and end of the argument. This causes the
already existing arguments to have wrong syntax.

mvn scm:update -Dusername=user -Dpassword=pass -X shows the following
output:

[DEBUG] STDERR :
[DEBUG] Synergy : Entering getWorkingProject method
[DEBUG] Executing: /bin/sh -c ccm query -u -f %objectname --> additonal
start single quote '"owner='subirs' and status='working' and
type='project' and has_predecessor('bsm-3.3:project:inhytest#1')"' -->
Additional end single quote
[DEBUG] Exit code :1
[DEBUG] STDOUT : unavailable
[DEBUG] STDERR :Warning: Syntax error in query request: "owner=subirs
and status=working and type=project and
has_predecessor(bsm-3.3:project:inhytest#1)" --> Note that now the
single quotes after interpretation by the shell are removed.

This works fine in 'Windows' platform.

Correct output should be: /bin/sh -c ccm query -u -f %objectname
"owner='subirs' and status='working' and type='project' and
has_predecessor('bsm-3.3:project:inhytest#1')" -->No single quotes, but
double quotes and inner single quotes not modified then.

How to get this working? I have seens some changes to plexus-utils on
these quotes, but could not understand how to workaround this. Please
help.

Regards
Subir

Subject: How to get version without SNAPSHOT text

Hi,

I have created a WiX installation that I create with Maven. I am trying

to set the product version using the pom.version but running into the
problem that WiX only supports integers in the version number. I have
looked without success a way to solve my problem. Maybe someone here
will
have a solution.

What I have tried:
- created a profile for my production release so that my WiX script only

runs when I do a release (using the release plugin). This fails since
we
(our build process) run release:prepare -DdryRun and this does not
change
the version (the version still has -SNAPSHOT)
- tried to figure out how to determine if -DdryRun is set. No luck
- tried to figure out if I can use a regular expression on the
pom.version
to strip the -SNAPSHOT and create a new variable. No luck.

At this point, I would be happy with anyway that I can execute my script

when my version does not contain -SNAPSHOT. If I remove the snapshot
manually everything works, but that does not fit into our automated
build
process.

Thanks

Michael

[Versions Maven Plugin 1.0] FATAL Error thrown for versions:dependency-updates-report GOAL

2009-08-24 Thread subir.sasikumar
Hi,

I tried to use this plugin to check the dependency version updates I
might need for the project.
I use Maven 2.1.0, on WinXP professional, and JDK 1.6.0

I got the following exceptions:

RE: [MAVEN-2.1.0] Using site:deploy for Wagon-scp-exe is not successful.

2009-08-20 Thread subir.sasikumar
Thank You Brett!!

Running an ssh-agent has solved the problem. Now I could see that upload
happens with a wagonXXX.zip file.

I have landed into *another problem* now: I am not sure what is making
this to fail now. Why is Maven not able to unzip that wagon.zip
file? Would you know of any known issues or pointers to what I am
missing here.

Your key requires a passphrase, but the maven command is instructed

not to prompt for one.

Try running an ssh-agent so you don't have to enter it.

[MAVEN-2.1.0] Using site:deploy for Wagon-scp-exe is not successful.

2009-08-19 Thread subir.sasikumar
Hi,

This is my first email to Maven Users List. Hope I find a solution or
help or pointer to solve my issue.

I am trying to deploy my site data using scpexe://

I have already configured password less authenitication using rsa2. i.e.
id_rsa and authorized_keys are configured.

Since it does not complain about ssh errors, so my settings.xml is
configured and distribution management for site is also correct I guess.

I used Cygwin to run "mvn site:site site:deploy" command and upload
failed with a permission denied message like below.

My remote host is a RHEL 5 desktop and I deploy from Windows XP (using
Cygwin)

[INFO] [site:deploy]

However if I use the same command from Cygwin command line it does not
complain of anything.

$> ssh sub...@mobiletv.w.c "mkdir -p
/var/www/html/docs/3.3.14.1-SNAPSHOT/modules/mbs_utilities/."

Enter passphrase for key 'C:\Documents and Settings\subirs\.ssh\id_rsa':

If I give passphrase directory is also created successfully with the
above command.

So I guess there is some issue with Maven scp-exe wagon, but not able to
figure out what it is...

Any help appreciated.
