Hi, this sounds like some OpenOffice communication issue with something
else.

My best guesses is that

* "check for updates" is enabled and the update site is bad or not
responding.

Please provide your operating system, and the version of OpenOffice you
have installed including any languaage packs for further assistance.

Thanks.

have you used the default installation paths?

Please tell us the version you have installed, whether you had another
version before, and what operating system you use.

Kind regards

Also, if the "don't answer" is a translation of the actual message, please give
us the untranslated message.

I'm guessing, of course, but by "don't answer"
does the questioner perhaps mean that the title
bar or Windows Task Manager says what in English
versions of Windows is "Not Responding"?

Why not suggest to Göte that he write in his native Swedish and ten use
Google to translate to English? That could resolve many of the questions
raised.

Re: AOO can't open .xlsx spreadsheet at Cornell site

I upgraded to AOO 4.0.1, so out of curiosity I tried to access the .xlsx
file at the Cornell site. Results were the same; after about 20 minutes
the progress bar showed about 25% of the file loaded and I had to use
the Windows Task Manager to terminate soffice.bin to stop it.

It opens normally for me with 4.0.1; however, it takes unacceptably long
(13 minutes in my case). I opened

since this is definitely a performance bug.

FODT (was [ANN] Apache OpenOffice 4.0.1 released)

2013-10-05 Thread William K Helbig Jr

FODT = Flat ODT file.

A text document saved in the OpenDocument format, but stored as a flat
XML file instead of the .ZIP container used by .ODT files.

There is some discussion from 5 or 6 years ago of it here

The acronym doesn't matter. The name "Urmas" says it all: "anti-AOO spam".
