2016-08-23 Thread Phillip White
I was working with a spreadsheet document and for some reason it will only let
me look at the document but I can no longer make changes. It will print out but

The site you list above is manipulated so that it comes high on the search
results. There are frequent reports of virus infestation from it.

Do not, under any circumstance, use any site but
www.openoffice.org/download
which will redirect you to a nearby Sourceforge server.

If you have any doubts about the integrity of the downloaded file, verify that
it is as it left the code factory be the methods set out in
http://www.openoffice.org/download/checksums.html

RE: Database Crashed - filter selection?

2016-08-23 Thread Dennis E. Hamilton
Kitty,

Usually when you are asked to choose a filter on opening any OpenOffice
document, it means that the document you are opening is damaged, possibly
seriously with all data lost.

It seems that the save you performed after recovery and use failed.

Determining whether there is a way to recover the data will depend on how your
database is configured.

I suggest you go to the Community Forum,
in the Base section under Applications
and see how to work out more details.

In the future, it may be useful to come up with a versioning scheme for backing
up new updates under different filenames (with numbers or dates in the names).
After an autorecovery, save that result to a different filename immediately.
On re-opening the auto-recovered one, there can then be more confidence that it
is all in good shape and what of your last changes have been preserved before
making further changes.

Also, you can save any reports produced by Base as separate files as a
precaution if you need to recover data. I expect that experienced Base users
will have more to offer on the Community Forum.

I wish you good fortune in getting your database operational again.

 - Dennis

FrOSCon 2016

2016-08-23 Thread RA Stehmann
Hello,

Free Software is the topic of FrOSCon (Free and Open Source Software
Conference). This year on 20th and 21st August 2016 the computer science
department of the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, in
St.Augustin, near Bonn, the former capital of the Federal Republic of
Germany, supported by the "Linux/Unix User Group Sankt Augustin" (LUUSA)
and FrOSCon e.V. organized a good and interesting program with talks
and workshops for visitors of all ages. The event was topped off with a
fair of booths from FLOSS projects and companies. The social event,
celebrated at Saturday night, offered the opportunity to exchange
opinions with other visitors, speakers or volunteers. FrOSCon is one of
the three largest and most important events of its kind in Germany.

Apache OpenOffice had a booth at FrOSCon 2016. Our experienced and "well
networked" booth team exhibited Apache OpenOffice and the ASF to
visitors, speakers, volunteersand and other exhibitors.

Our booth was amongst other things decorated with a roll up display
showing the new ASF logo and we distributed amongst other things
stickers with the new ASF logo and little stickes with the new feather,
which were in demand.

On our booth computer we could present the version 4.1.2 with the new
patch and a nightly build of the 4.2. to the public.

Our booth "hosted" also a friend from the LibreOffice project, so
visitors could get authentic advice for both products. Also a member of
the Board of Directors of "The Document Foundation" visit our booth a
few times to talk with us.

We also had the opportunity to talk with an ASF member.

The next events with an Apache OpenOffice booth in the region will be
the OpenRheinRuhr in Oberhausen, Germany, and T-Dose, Eindhoven, The
Netherlands, both in November.

Kind regards
Michael
