Temat: need help fixing or restoring a file

Hello,

I've tried looking on Community Support Forum and am not having success.

I am running HP Windows Vista to create and edit this document in Open Office
4.1.3. Thus far, it's been the only document I've had difficulty with. Maybe
it's important to know the document was originally created (same computer and
OO version) april 28, 2016 and has been saved and added to since that date.
Recently, within the past week or so, I opened the document, added an entry,
then I believe closed and saved the document. I unplugged the computer to move
it to another room. When I attempted to open the document (which was
approximately 14 pages in length??), it now shows up as row upon row of
###. And a message box comes up asking for ASCII Filter Options. No matter
what I seem to put in (I'm in United States, Massachusetts) it still comes up
with #.

On the Community Support page posts from maybe 2016, it said to try opening a
new blank document and then choose Insert file. Still . I've tried to cut a
portion of the into a new OO document but that doesn't fix the problem
either.

I've uninstalled the 4.1.3 version. I attempted to install the 4.1.7? version
but I don't know if this is correct or what operating system to choose. Should
I just look for the 4.1.3 version and try reinstalling that - hoping that will
fix my ### document problem??

Thank you,
Mary Lippoth

Dear Amin,
Thank you so much for your detailed instructions to try to resolve the
malfunctioning of AOO version 4.1.7.

Because of serious health problems, only today I was able to apply them on
my computer.

The first three steps seemed to progress correctly. However, I hesitated to
apply the fourth step. The scan of the windows registry revealed *1785

follows, but those 22 are not specified

Re: Malfunctioning and fatal error of AOO

2020-05-29 Thread Amin Jacek Pędziwiater

First of all uninstall AOO using special program (I suggest Revo
Uninstaller Free). During uninstallation, remove all the remains
(registry entries, folders).

Secondly, in Control Panel settings select Folders and in available
options select "Show hidden files and folders".

Thirdly: Run Windows Explorer to see and navigate the files and folders
that are on your disk.
Open (by mouse click) the disk view C:\, further open the folder "Users"
and open your user folder under the name you are logged into Windows.
Then open the folder "AppData" and further on "Roaming" and this folder
contains the folder "OpenOffice". Select it and right-click "delete"
from the menu.

Fourth: Use some program (I suggest Wise Registry Cleaner Free) to
thoroughly scan the system registry and fix any errors automatically.
At this stage, you can set up a new Apache OpenOffice installation
hoping it will be correct and clean from errors.

Now my note about AOO's cooperation with Windows 10: Win 10 has a
built-in Windows Defender protection program, which sometimes (I had
such a case) blocks some access and operation (read-write) functions
when the program is not running in Administrator mode. This applies to
the temporary AOO file "soffice.bin" and if you have trouble saving the
OO file, open the Windows Defender tab in the system settings and then
select "Operations". (or "Action") and check "Allow" for the blocked
file.

You can download the programs I mentioned ( Revo Uninstaller and Wise
Registry Cleaner) from the sites that make them available by using a
search engine in your web browser.
The AOO installation package of course I recommend to download from the
official OpenOffice.org website.

Subject: Malfunctioning and fatal error of AOO

From: Haim Giloh

I am not a computer expert;
English is not my mother language.
Computer OS: Windows 10.
Present AOO version: 4.7.1

Writing, editing, saving and opening of saved files with AOO has become
impossible.

Details:
1. On opening AOO,
a. Most times, *NOT* the first AOO window, *‘Open Office 4’ * is displayed
*,* but the second one, *OpenOffice Document Recovery’*.

b. Sometimes the ‘Open Office 4’ window is displayed correctly. On
the following
page, where choosing an option for writing, after 20-30 sec, AOO switches
suddenly to the second window.
Hence, writing and saving a file became impossible.

2. The second window, *‘OpenOffice Document Recovery’* :
On the first row, a statement appears: “Due to an unexpected error, AOO
crashed. all the files you are working on will be saved”, etc.

3. The *‘Start recovery’* window
On clicking *OK*:

a. If recovery was successful, clicking *‘Next’, *returns correctly the
empty page for writing. However, it switches automatically back to the
second window, as described in section 1b. above.

Hence, a vicious cycle is created.

b. If recovery failed, clicking *‘Next’* returns a new window that states:

“void_this call framework::AutoRecovery: implts_ collectActiveViewNames
(structframework:: Autorecovery:TDocumentInfo&) need at document, at the
very least".

The consequence of the impaired functioning:
writing, saving and opening of files stored on the computer is impossible.

Trial to solve the problem:
Unsubscription and reinstalling AOO. It did not solve the problem.

Please instruct me or help me otherwise to get AOO working correctly again.

Sincerely,
Haim Giloh

Re[2]: Java Version

2020-05-20 Thread Amin Jacek Pędziwiater
To configure the Java environment with the AOO package you only need to
open the settings tab (Tools>Options>Java) and wait for a moment until
the AOO automatically detects the installed JRE and select "Use a Java
runtime environment" and the detected version. If the AOO does not
automatically detect the installed environment you have to use "Add"
button and manually indicate the location of the folder where the JRE is
located. After saving the settings, the AOO functionality requiring a
JRE should work without problems.

OKay; I now have a jre1.8.0_251 folder showing under C:Program Files (x86)

1. Does that mean that AOO will recognize it?
2. What additional steps should I do for AOO functionality?
3. Is there a test that I can/should do? I think AOO-Base relies on
JRE; maybe I should attempt to run a Base template, since I do not
have any Base files of my own doing, yet.

Please excuse my carelessness on the path, earlier.

If you have the 32bit JRE installed AOO will normally find it.

Re[2]: Error Creating Object

2020-04-24 Thread Amin Jacek Pędziwiater

I had a similar problem with OO working on Windows 10 Pro. When I tried
to close the reformatted RTF file I was getting a message that the file
could not be saved. I managed to do this by ticking the "allow" option
on the Windows Defender action board to change the temporary file
"soffice.bin" because it was blocked by Defender making it impossible to
save the file. Besides, I removed all allowed files from
Users\Yourname\App Data\Local\Temp directory after closing OO. After
that I had no more problems with saving the corrected document. I don't
know if that's gonna work for you, but there's a possibility. Good luck
.

P.S.
After a short thought I think it would be better to set language options not
directly in Writer application but simply from the main window of OO package
(Tools/Options) which would result in setting to all documents.

Hi,
Try to do the following:
open the Writer blank document and then select "Tools/Options" from the menu.
In the applet that opens, select "Language settings" and on the tab choose your
language in "Default language for documents". If this does not help, you may
need to install additional extensions such as the Norwegian dictionary. I know
that when you open documents in a different language than the default one, you
will see a window that allows you to choose encoding options etc., but I don't
know how to make this window appear every time you open a document. Maybe
someone more familiar with the OO package will help you more effectively.

Open Office has nothing to do with uploading a book. It only does editing and
hands off the document to your email account to send or to your OS to save. You
might as well blame your Microsoft Windows 10 for your problem.

1) To uninstall OpenOffice use an advanced uninstaller such as Revo Uninstaller

Re: Base and Java

The only thing that comes to mind due to the fact that MAC OSX only
works with the 64-bit version of the Java environment is that you try to
install one of the relevant MAC versions of the Libre Office software

for MAC and creates and supports a database program you wish to use.

Re: changing font size

2019-07-24 Thread Amin Jacek Pędziwiater

Hi.

Open Writer empty document and go to "Iools > Options > OpenOffice
Writer > Basic font (Western) " and on the card select the type and size
of font you want to make default, set it properly and confirm.
Currenly I use OpenOffice version 4.1.6 and this procedure is adequate
to this version, but I remember that in the earlier version of OO (v.3.1
I used) in the program settings there was also a separate option to set
the default western and Asian font
(which I have not noticed in the current version). After setting the
smaller font size, each new document will be automatically created with
this size, while documents that have a larger font size will have to be
separately. Edit and format to the new Writer default settings.
Maybe someone more familiar with the topic will advise you something
else ...
Meanwhile, I greet and wish you peace and creativity in solving the
problem.

 Hi!

Installed OO (full) [OpenOffice 4.1.6] in my PC running on Win 10 Prof. Perhaps
the ENGLISH dictionaries (US & UK) failed to load for which all words are
showing incorrect (with RED underlines).

Tried uninstalling and re-installing. But that did not solve this problem.
Downloaded the dictionary manually and tried to install. That’s not helping
either.

 Please help.
Thanks to all in advance for your gesture to help resolve the issue at the
earliest please.

Try renaming your OO user profile.

If you are using Windows close OpenOffice and the Quickstarter. Open File
Explorer. Copy and paste %appdata%\OpenOffice\4 in the File Explorer (sometimes
called Windows Explorer)
Address Bar and press Enter. Rename the "user" folder - "user.old" is a good
choice. Start OpenOffice.

This cures most spellcheck problems.

This loss of spellchecking happens usually because the computer has been
powered off too hastily or the laptop lid closed before the internal buffers of
the hard drive have flushed to the disks.

Re[2]: All words underlined as misspelled.

2019-05-21 Thread Amin Jacek Pędziwiater
Just locate the "OpenOffice" folder in the hard disk in which the "4"
folder is located, where the "user" folder should go and change its name
to "user.old". Do not forget to close all OpenOffice applications first.
To find and change the name of the correct folder, use Windows Explorer
if you are using Windows. Highlight the folder, right-click and select
the "change name" option. And then do it. Restart OpenOffice (Writer)
and, according to Rory, the problem should be solved. Probably.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
I either didn't understand the directions or it didn't work for me.
I even downloaded version 4.1.6 and I'm having the same problem.
Any other advice?
Thanks John

Good Morning Group,

I have been using Open Office for years, but never experimented.
I rarely use the Gallery, but decided to look-see. There are many
graphics I'll never use and whole graphic groups I don't need. How do I
delete them? Or add my own graphic?
I can delete specific graphics in a group, but not the group. There is
no help to tell me how to do this.

Take Care.

Good afternoon. I have search all sections on the OpenOffice forum, but can
find anything to do with my problem.

I have downloaded Extension ooEs Pallett 1.1.1. - how do I find it?

I have also downloaded several different templates (Recipe cards, Calendar,
booklet, tri fold brochure, basic invoice plus others) but, no matter what
I do, I cannot open or import them. Can someone please give me details of
how to?

Am I correct in thinking that the dictionary of surnames works in the same
way as the English dictionary does.

My OpenOffice awaits your reply.

Regards Sue Taylor
