Writer documents saved but vanish.

2022-09-22 Thread Paul Collins
I am setting down my part in our family’s history. After 3 days of typing in
details and saving frequently, the Writer document has disappeared.

I am running OS 10.14.6 and AOO 4.1.11. I have not shut down my iMac over
those 3 days.

Can anyone, please help?

Compare 2 decimals (weight) expressed as % (weight gain or loss}

2022-08-31 Thread Paul Collins
I’m setting up a spreadsheet to monitor weight gain or loss following recent
illness. Can anyone tell me the syntax I need to compare decimals (Kg weight)
to a fixed decimal (F1) and express the answer as a percentage.

This will enable me to monitor daily weight gain or loss, please? Below is a
screenshot

The constant (original weight) is in cell F1. I wish enter each day’s weight
in Column B and have that weight compared to original weight and expressed as a
+/- %.

I am using digital bathroom scales, calibrated to kilograms (and decimals
thereof). The scales can also be calibrated to ‘pounds / stones’.

Since Australia decimalised, I am now able to understand most (but not ALL)
metric measures.

Yours faithfully, Paul Collins,

I can’t advise you further but suggest you might consider subscribing to ‘Mac
Help’ forum; it’s free and hassle free. They rapidly responded to a query I
sent them (to solve a different issue) they were courteous and responded
swiftly and solved the issue effectively. Asking help is easy on their website.
Osxdaily.org is very helpful BUT I haven’t yet worked out how post a request
for help on their site.

I haven’t upgraded beyond Mojave because at App Store, to do so results in the
System warning me that several NON Apple software packages will no longer work
with ANY OS upgrade. So, unfortunately, I cannot help further but those forums
are friendly, and FREE1

GOOD LUCK, fellow Mac fan.

2022-07-13 Thread Paul Collins
I run Mojave 10.14.6 on iMac late 2017 and had this problem. If you have
’System Preferences / Security & Privacy panel open, quit System Preferences
(close it) and open Utilities Folder in Applications Folder.
Open “Terminal” app and in the widow that opens in Terminal, type the following
command syntax EXACTLY
sudo spctl --master-disable

(I used Copy/Paste command as set out at osxdaily.com
website
>.)

Terminal will ask you to enter (System) “Password:-“
Type your password and Quit ‘Terminal’.

From desktop, reopen System Preferences/ Security & Privacy panel: you see the
third App installation option displayed as snap below.

T/he non app install problem originates in the GateKeeper part of Mojave (since
OS Sierra, apparently). This is how you adapt Mojave to suit your needs.

Re: Copy text from email paste into AOO Document FAIL

2022-01-19 Thread Paul Collins
Thank you, Brian. Changing the text colour from white to default black solved
the issue. I am recording my part in our family’s lineage and, at 70 years of
age, just trying recollect as much as I can was challenging enough - technical
issues were an frustrating distraction. Thank you again.

Changing OS X Security & Privacy Preferences

2017-02-10 Thread Paul Collins
Hello Bk,

As part of the OS X system, the Security & Privacy Preference Panel comes
preset to “Allow apps downloaded from: Mac App Store:.

To change this Security Preference to either other option, go to
Applications/System Preferences/Security and Privacy, click on the Padlock
symbolic the lower left corner of the Preference window.

A “System Preferences is trying to unlock Security and Privacy preferences.
Type your password to allow this” window will open. Type in the password that
allows access to your Mac HD drive and press “return”.

You can now select the “Anywhere’ option. Close Security and Privacy Preference
panel.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely, ranger 1.

Re: An Open Office 'newbie' with a question.

2013-05-10 Thread Paul Collins
Dear Andrea,

Thank you for your early response to my (e)missive. I went to the donations
page link and I again encountered the seemingly mindless ineptitude of the
PayPal monolith. I cannot login using my email / password combination (which I
faithfully recorded in my "Apache Open Office Calc spreadsheet) NOR can I
donate as a new (casual?) PayPal user.

I've encountered this crass inaccessibility with PayPal (and eBay) before, to
the point where any purchase which necessitates the use of either party loses
my business. I'd still like to donate but with the PayPal impasse, I'm in need
of alternate suggestions.

Yours sincerely,
Paul Collins.

An Open Office 'newbie' with a question.

2013-05-09 Thread Paul Collins
Hello All,

This OpenOffice online community is truly wonderful and quite unique in my
experience of software support to date. I've only received OpenOffice emails
in pursuit of problem resolution so far but the self-evident camaraderie is
most heartening. If only such a forum existed for Mac users with Mac OS X /
software problems...

I'm currently chronicling my 12 years search for my biological father's and my
mother's birth identity. I'm using the "Word" component to detail the saga for
my daughter's future use by herself or any of her three beautiful children.
The sheer volume of material could make her reading of the end 'tome' somewhat
onerous. Making the material easier to read, and hence, allowing the reader to
more easily follow the developing family 'discoveries' would probably help any
future reader/researcher. Accordingly,

my question to the group is "How do I set the LINE spacing to more than single
- e.g. one and a half, two line spacing etc."?

For other purposes (e.g. cost comparisons or User ID / password combinations),
I find the "Excel" component very useful. The balance of programs within the
suite I have never experienced.

Incidently, before I discovered "Apache Open Office", I installed a similar
suite of public domain (?) software/shareware called "Neo Office". After more
than a year had passed since download/installation, my approach for help was
met by being informed that I had to have 'donated' a $10 minimum within the
previous twelve months. This I thought was very reasonable and I attempted to
do without success due to their site's payment complexity.

Some months ago, being so impressed with Apache Open Office, I attempted to see
if I could contribute some token sum to shown my appreciation for your
fantastic work. Whilst I couldn't readily find such a "contributions" page, it
did lead me to joining this unique users forum. Again you should feel proud of
your efforts.

Awaiting any possible assistance, I am

Yours sincerely,

Paul Collins.

P. S. As a non American, I am fascinated with the inclusion of "Apache" in the
software suite's title. Does hold any particular connotations?
