For What Home-Office Tasks are you Using AOO-BASE?

2017-03-09 Thread VinceB.

Hello Group:

Steven Ahers made a ref: to AOO BASE within his reply comments to one of
my previous posts. I have not seen (m)any postings via the email list
with regard to AOO BASE or the several other modules, for that matter.

I have yet to come up with a practical use of the AOO BASE module. I
wonder in what way BASE is being used by HomeOffice operators? An
application of using BASE for developing a "Telephone Directory"
database is what first comes to my mind; I did begin to do that here,
but find that AOO CALC is easier for me.

Anyone care to give their list of BASE task applications? Becoming aware
of how HomeOffice operators are using BASE would be beneficial to me,
and may give me reason to reconsider using a DBM rather than a
spreadsheet tool in some instances.

Determine Five Best Scores

2017-03-07 Thread VinceB.
Can someone offer assistance to me to solve a problem, using AOO
4.1.3-CALC ?

I have typically 8 or 9 players in a bowling group. We are currently
participating in a competitive tournament whereby I must submit a
5-member Team score results to the BVL Tournament administrator. Here
is what I have:

Eight players bowled three games today. I have entered each players'
name in column A, followed by their individual scores in columns C, D,
and E. I need to determine the five highest scores from the group of 8
players after each player finished 3 games of bowling.

Is their a function that would allow determination and display of the
five highest scores when considering 8x3=24 scores ?

The data looks something like this:

AB C
DE

March 7, 2017
PLAYER NAMES
GAME #1 GAME #2 GAME #3

Player#1
156 111 165
Player#2
168 211 178
Player#3
109 127 97
Player#4
148 157 136
Player#5
114 127 134
Player#6
127 166 138
Player#7
146 197 177
Player#8
167 169 121

HIGH SCORE 168 211 178

Next HIGH 1 167 197 177

Next HIGH 2 156 169 165

In the above, the HIGH SCORE for columns C, D, and E were calculated
using =MAX( ); the Next HIGH 1 and Next HIGH 2 were eyeballed !

I need to submit the five highest scores for 7 Mar 2017; and repeat this
task for the remaining 3 tournament play sessions, 14, 21, and 28 Mar 2017.

I don't know if this requires a macro or a lookup table, neither of
which I have ever used in CALC. Any help on this is appreciated very much.

Regards.

available criteria settings. Next, I tried setting a criteria setting
(condition 2 of 3) for the same range of cells to apply a bold font
whenever scores are >199. Thus, for example, a score of 225 would
have both red and bold applied to the cell. It seems that Calc is
unable to set a 2nd or 3rd criteria over *the same range of cells*.

By experiment, I see that is not true: you can achieve what you want.
Unfortunately, you don't explain exactly what you have done and what
result you see, so anyone is left to guess.
OK; I can verify FYI that at the time of my OP I had the following
settings at the Format*|*Conditional Formatting dialogue:

Condition 1:
Cell value isgreater than74
Cell StyleRed if >174

Condition 2:
Cell value isgreater than199
Cell StyleBOLD if >199 Scored

Condition 3:
Cell value isgreater than199
Cell Style11 pt if >199 Scored

Conditional formatting works by applying cell styles. You talk about
applying "both red and bold", but you cannot apply two styles
simultaneously to the same cell or cell range, of course. So you would
need one cell style for red and another for red-bold. (The criteria
you wish to apply are such that you don't need bold without red.) Is
that what you did?

No, I did not. (See above.)

All that's left is to notice the built-in help text, which says _inter
alia_ "The conditions are evaluated from 1 to 3. If the condition 1
matches the condition, the defined style will be used. Otherwise,
condition 2 is evaluated, and its defined style used. If this style
does not match, condition 3 is evaluated." (This doesn't appear to be
explained in the Calc Guide.) Note those words "Otherwise" and "If ...
not": if any condition is satisfied, later ones are disregarded. In
your case, if you apply the >174 condition first, the >199 condition
will be evaluated only if the value is not >174 - so can never be
effective. The solution is just to set >199 with red-bold as Condition
1 and >174 with red as Condition 2.
Thank you, Brian. Indeed, very helpful, and key to grasping what is
going on when using Format*|*Conditional Formatting feature in Calc.

Is a Boolean AND required/possible in the criteria settings?

Not if you are using "Cell value is", I think.

Is the 3-criteria a limit for each Calc sheet?

No: it's a limit for any individual cell, I think. However you
construct your cell ranges, each cell has its own set of up to three
conditions.

I trust this helps.

Brian Barker

_
FYI, I now have the following settings; they work satisfactorily for my
needs:

Condition 1 cell style:
Cell valueis greater than199.
Cell Style*|*Font tab: I have selected Arial-Font; Bold-Typeface; and 11
pt-Size as the Font cell style definitions.
Cell Style*|*Font Effects tab: I have selected Red-character color as
the Font Effects cell style definition.

Condition 2 cell style:
Cell valueis greater than174.
Cell Style*|*Font Effects tab: I have selected Red as the Font Effects
cell style definition.

Condition 3 cell style:
Cell valueis greater between1 and100.
Cell Style*|*Background tab: I have selected YELLOW fill-in color as the

You probably shouldn't "take the time" to do this, but use conditional
formatting to do it for you automatically.

I would like to count the number of times a score within a range of

COUNTIF(A1:G10,Red).

I don't see any obvious way to do this.

I tried: =COUNTIF(D439:K453,>174), but that does not work and did not

I'm surprised you see no error. The simple answer is that you have the
COUNTIF() function's syntax slightly wrong. You can use

=COUNTIF(D439:K453,Xn)
with Xn containing the string >10 (with no quotes), but if you want to
put the condition in the formula itself - which is very often
convenient, of course - you need to express it in quotes:

=COUNTIF(D439:K453,">174") .

I trust this helps.

Brian Barker

Thanks Wade and Brian for pointing out the Conditional formatting
method; I shall most likely study that next. Should save me much time
and avoid scanning a range of cells to detect occurrences of >174 values.

Brian: I am getting error 508 with each of your two suggested COUNTIF
entries (now using quotes >174 end quotes method). Is there a tutorial

I keep track of my bowling scores in a AOO 4.1.2 Calc file on WIN10
desktop. I take the time to enter scores above a certain threshold in
Red font color. I would like to count the number of times a score
within a range of cells is above the specified threshold. For example:

COUNTIF(A1:G10,Red).

Is this possible to do? It appears, per the Help documentation, that
the COUNTIF function criteria does not allow for detection of attributes
assigned to a cell. Is that correct?

I tried: =COUNTIF(D439:K453,>174), but that does not work and did not
return any error ref.

Please advise.

Regards,

VinceB.

Re: "McAfee Spam" Folder and "popstate-1.dat" Folder

2017-01-02 Thread VinceB.

I have managed to delete both of those folders.

Does anyone have an answer to B. below?

What is the significance of a "popstate-1.dat" folder?

One of the two Verizon email accounts and the Yahoo email account,
each, show a "popstate-1.dat" folder. I have no clue how or why
those folders were created. Both .dat folders are empty.

Is there a way to delete these unwanted/unnecessary folders ?

I must confess that I have not simply tried to delete these
folders. I supposed that it is better to ask first !

About one month ago, I went through the task of deleting McAfee
software, using their own s/w tool from their website to do the
 deletion/removal.

Other than the Gmail email account, each of my other email
accounts include, in the left-hand pane, have a folder entitled:
"McAfee Anti-Spam". Both of those folders are empty.

AOO Calc Chart Not including Last Two cell Contents

2016-10-28 Thread VinceB.

AOO412m3(Build:9782) - Rev. 1709696
2015-10-21 09:53:29 (Mi, 21 Okt 2015)

WIN10x64

Well, here I go again: today's problem with my treasured Bowling Scores
spreadsheet ! :-[

In my Calc sheet I have an existing line chart that shows my recent
average bowling scores, e.g., where cell O435 contains the formula:

=IF(D435="";"";AVERAGE(D435:L435)) .

The heading for column O is MATCH AVG. The chart's X-axis should be
reflecting the calculated results in cells $O$415 thru $O450, although
O437 thru O450 do not as yet contain calculated data (my bowling MATCH
AVG scores). The X-axis does show the numbers 1, 2, 3 19, 20 and
21, but data points 20 and 21 are missing from the graph/chart. Calc's
Data Table does not show _Y-Values_ entries adjacent to the
_Categories_ 20 and 21 entries.

What needs to be done to include data points 20 and 21, which correlate
to cells O435 and O436, in the line chart ?? (Cells O435 and O436 do
have a calculated MATCH AVG score for my two most recent sessions at the
bowling alley.)

I cannot seem to locate how to edit the chart's X-axis cell range or
cell series (I don't know/understand which is needed) to include the
latest MATCH AVG data points.

VinceB.

Is there an insert Filename or insert Full Path Available?

2016-10-25 Thread VinceB.

I would like to include the full path or filename within a CALC cell and
within the print range area. Is this possible ?

VinceB.
