Re: Apache WordPad
There is no program called Apache Wordpad. There is a program made by Microsoft called Wordpad that comes free. There is a program called ApacheOpenOffice that is free. https://sourceforge.net/software/compare/Apache-OpenOffice-vs-WordPad/ Wordpad from what I can tell still comes free with Microsoft Windows 10 ApacheOpenOffice can be downloaded from: https://www.openoffice.org/ There is no need to transfer any program that requires a license and there are no fees for the programs. So either you IT technician doesn't know what he's talking about or he gave you false information, or the program isn't called Apache Wordpad. Re: Writer documents saved but vanish.
Have you done a search for .odt files? I'd also search for files dated the last time you saved. I haven't had this happen with Writer documents, but I have had odd things happen years ago with another program and did end up finding my document in a temp folder. Re: It is on my computer
Hi Marie, You can try searching for *.odt files. I can't get windows to find them, but I use a program called Search Everything by Void Tools and it finds them. It's possible your default folder changed for some reason. Re: Application
Terry, Microsoft Edge should have nothing to do with OpenOffice. If you've created OpenOfficeWriter documents, try clicking on your start button and type .odt and see if anything shows up. If you have been creating the documents in Edge, I think you are using Office 365. Try going to office.com and see if the documents show up. You can also do the same search via the start button using .docx This support list isn't for Office Word documents but Apache Open Office :) Shari On 4/11/2022 4:56 PM, Terry Sparks wrote: Dave, No error messages. Re: Download help....
Hi Kay, you need to change the program your files are associated with. Find the file, right click and selecting Open with > Choose another app Once you're on that screen tick the "Always use the app to open [filetype] files" Then find Open Office Cal or whatever program you need to open it, in the list of available programs, you might have to click on more apps, and chose look for another app on this pc. The program you need is most likely in Windows > Program Files (x86) > OpenOffice 4 > program Select scalc.exe (for spreadsheets) open. After you do this is should work on it's own. You can use this for any file type, just select the corresponding OOProgram to open it. I'm really confused and need your help. I don't know if I need to install Java to make it work (which I haven't figured that out either). PLEASE HELP!! Re: Unable to access documents
Is it the same file or is it happening with every file? If it's the same file, there may be some issue with it. In either case my 1st step is to uninstall OOA, and then reinstall. This has worked for me in the past. If that doesn't work, and it's the file itself, sometimes you can get it to open with another program. Sorry you're having this issue. Re: Error message when opening up a document
Hi Meggie, A few thoughts... 1. That's not saved as an OpenOffice doc try saving it as an odt 2. You might want to shorten the long file name. 3. Same goes for folder name. C:\Users\User\Documents\TRAVEL\MASTER - Travel documents\LODGERS - re long placementXList for lodgers - for a 2 week holiday -Skiathos 2020.doc That is really long, and this can cause issue. Re: How to Find/Replace a break
Hi Hellen, Here is the note I use to do this: \n for line break ctrl-enter $ for a paragraph break * Regular carriage returns are $ * Soft returns inserted with a Shift Return, are \n * Just an empty paragraph, i.e. a carriage return but with no text on that line, is ^$ * Tabs are \t from: http://openoffice.blogs.com/openoffice/2005/12/finding_and_rep.html You also have to select more options regular expressions. Hope this helps! Shari On 10/27/2020 3:20 PM, Aloris Te wrote: Hi all, So thankful for everyone that contributes and makes this product so incredibly amazing! I have one question: I am unable to do a find/replace on a line break [as when a user hits "enter" and is reflected as the "paragraph symbol" when the nonprinting characters (CTRL+F10) is active]. In other words, if I have an address list with 30 addresses in Writer, but I want to move it over to the spreadsheet in address format, I don't want each line to be put in each cell...I want the address to show up in the spreadsheet as one complete address per cell. But because there is no capability to find/replace the paragraph end, I cannot make the lines appear in the same cell, with a soft return in the same cell. I appreciate if someone could assist me to discover the right method of find/replace.
