open office won't open a pdf

Start TaskManager (Ctrl Shift Esc) and kill any soffice processes shown on TaskManager's Processes tab. Advice request - Open Office won't open
Advice please. My Open Office 4.0.0 has clammed up (won't open) System is Windows XP. My Documents are listed as normal but won't come on screen (except pictures). Thanks.
