Start by renaming your OpenOffice user profile.

If you are using Windows close OpenOffice and the Quickstarter. Open File
Explorer. Copy and paste %appdata%\OpenOffice\4 in the File Explorer (sometimes
called Windows Explorer)
Address Bar and press Enter. Rename the "user" folder - "user.old" is a
good choice. Start OpenOffice.

This cures most spellcheck problems.

Spell Check dictionary

2022-01-03 Thread Nick Boukidis
Hello,
I've used apache open office for a few years now awhile back I developed and
issue with spell checking.  In every application I open it underlines ever word
I type as misspelled.  When I try to use the spell checker it just goes through
every word 1 by 1 as misspelled but offers no suggestions on how it should be
spelled.  I think the dictionary is missing.  I just recently downloaded the
latest version of apache open office (version 4.1.11) but that didn't help.
What should I do?

It would seem so according to a general search on the net.

You may consider upgrading to LibreOffice, it has this particular
problem and many other bugs fixed.

OpenOffice is not actively developed these days.

Congrats with your third anniversary of promoting LibreOffice.

I have been privately informed that the fix I posted has worked.

LibreOffice has other problems - try a .docx in it, but not for anything
inportant.

Subject: Spell Check/Dictionary

I have Open Office 4.1.3 and the spell checker will not connect to the
dictionary. It tells me that the dictionary is installed and I have the
language set to English. Yet, EVERY word is red-underlined as misspelled.

I even removed Open Office, rebooted, and re-installed Open Office. No fix.

What can I do?

Try to reset your profile as described here:

It should take care of the spell check.

The normal cure for this problem is to delete or rename your OpenOffice User
Profile. Details of the User Profile for various operating systems are given in

https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=12426

If you are using Windows close OpenOffice and the Quickstarter. Open File
Explorer. Copy and paste %appdata%\OpenOffice\4 in the File Explorer Address
Bar and press Enter. Rename the "user" folder - "user.old" is a good choice.
Start OpenOffice.

This cures most spellcheck problems

It can sometimes happen that an installation produces a faulty user profile
"out of the box". The above fix works in the vast majority of cases.
