Sure enough! There are:
custom_toolbar_1.xml
custom_toolbar_3.xml
formtextobjectbar.xml
standardbar.xml
The first two seem to describe two toolbars that I created for myself.
The 3rd and 4th I am guessing are my *modified* versions
of the "formtextobject" toolbar and the "standard" toolbar.

I find it interesting that there is a custom...1 and a custom...3,
but no custom...2. Perhaps OOo is inferring that there *should* be
a custom...2, and displays it as empty, lacking any information for it.
I will investigate.

You may try it this way (no guarantee):

Which are the values of 'Setup.xcu' in your user-directory?

Is it similar to

And in FirstStartWizard you had input your name and finished the

If you are sure, all was completed, and one of these values in
'Setup.xcu' is 'false', rename 'false' to 'true' and restart OOo

Outlook never was part of Windows, so Vista can't lack it. And this is
not because of disk space, but because it is separate product, that is
sold separately.
Outlook _Express_ was part of Windows and still is under name of Windows
Mail in Vista.

Copied to Tan.

Look at the icons at the top, approximately midway under the words
INSERT and FORMAT is an icon that resembles a ruled paper with a pencil
on it. Click that, and you can edit the read-only document.

If your source is a CD, then you cannot edit the document but you will
have to "save as" and resave it to your hard disk or to a re-writable
media if you intend to keep the modified document.

As of this point, OpenOffice.org does not have nor are there any plans
that I am aware of to create an Outlook equivalent. There are numerous
reasons for this, but in any event there are suitable alternatives that
you can use that are not directly associated with OpenOffice.
Thunderbird is one of them (you can download it here
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/) and another is Evolution
depending upon your operating system (the Windows version at
http://www.go-evolution.org/Building_Evolution_on_Windows is not as
advanced). I try to think of the lack of an outlook client as a good
thing. After all, one of the motivations from switching from MS Office
to OpenOffice was that I was tired of the monopoly Microsoft has on the
desktop.

Open up the folder where the document is and right-click on its
properties. If you see that it has been marked as read only, unmark
that and you should be able to open it up and modify it. The other
solution is to use the "Save As. . ." menu command and change the name
slightly. At that point, as long as the underlying directory and media
are read-write, the file should be too.

Okay, let's go over this one step at a time.
1. As it has been pointed out, we are not the people who actually
charged you for the product, so your concern is with the company that
sold you the product to see if you can get your money back or not. I'd
think it's a long shot, but you always have that option. Go back to
that store and see what they could do.
2. There are a couple of reasons why you would pay for "free" software,
and this happens more often than you think. OpenOffice is routinely
included on software discs distributed by magazine publishers. In
addition, several people may not have a high speed internet connection.
Some may be even at places where they are charged by the hour. Given
that, it may make more sense to get a physical copy that you can load
off line than it is to rack charges up online.
Also, several companies offer "support" in addition to the physical
media and bundling. Again, you would have to check with whomever your
wife purchased the software from to see what your support is. Now, we
will help you on this list, but it's no more or no less than the support
we would offer anybody who downloaded the software free from our web site.
Finally, I would direct your attention to the license,
http://www.openoffice.org/license.html Anybody is free to take the
software, copy, modify and even distribute it for charge without any
approval from the OpenOffice.org committee so long as they adhere to the
GNU Lesser General Public License.

The mysterious "read only" syndrome is at play ... I don't know the
reason, but I've encountered this, both with my self (rarely) and with
people whom I'm instructing. A document will be opened, and for some
reason, it is opened as "read only".

The most certain solution that I have found is to simply do a File >

That CD your wife purchased did not come from OpenOffice. It was
produced by someone who decided to package and sell OpenOffice. It is
entirely legal for them to do so and they provide a service for those
who do not have broadband internet access. You should be discussing

Would =INT(A1/12)+(MOD(A1;12)/10) work for you?

Dave

That only works if your standard decimal character is set to ".". If it's
not, you can set it to "." for that cell or range of cells if you like. If
you don't want to do that, try:

=INT(A1/12)&"."&(MOD(A1;12))

This does the same thing as "=CONCATENATE((ROUNDDOWN(25/12));".";MOD(25;12))",
suggested by Ahromi, but is a bit shorter to type... (the "&" characters is
instead of CONCATENATE).

The difference between INT and ROUNDDOWN is that the INT function rounds
towards -∞ ("minus eternity", in case you can't see unicode characters
properly in your email) while ROUNDDOWN rounds towards 0 (zero). That means
that INT(-3.6) = -4 and ROUNDDOWN(-3.6) = -3.

company, it is a community open source software development project. For
an explanation about the general principals of "open source" see this
page:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_source

Details about the LGPL licence under which OOo is distributed can be
found here: http://www.openoffice.org/license.html which links to
http://www.openoffice.org/licenses/lgpl_license.html

As you will see from this licence, anyone can freely download and
distribute the software, even sell it. In fact there is a page on the
OOo website http://distribution.openoffice.org/cdrom/index.htm which
provides links to a number of suggested "distributors" who can provide
the software on CD. This is intended as a service for those people who
have a slow or expensive Internet connection. Normally, these
"distributors" charge a nominal fee to cover cost of materials and
distribution. Some even make a small "profit", which they donate to
charity or contribute to "open source" development projects such as OOo.

From the above you will understand that the OOo project has no direct
control over who or how the software is redistributed. Ignoring the fact
that the OOo project did not receive any revenue from your purchase, no
mechanism exists by which your money could be refunded. This is an issue
you will have to pursue with the organisation/individual who sold you
the media containing this software.

It is unfortunate that you didn't search the Internet for information
about OpenOffice, before you made your purchase. As a small consolation,
you now know that the OOo software can be downloaded for free and you
will never have to pay anyone for future upgrades.

Please note: This is my own personal view on this matter and does not
represent any formal or official statement by or for the OOo project.

Dear Andrew,
You are addressing the wrong people. "We" are not the manufacturer. We are a
group of users (with some developers) and are all volunteers. We form a
community and help eachother out. I don't think there is much that can be
done to get your money back other than by going back to the place where you
purchased it. It always worth taking a few minutes to investigate when you
are buying some software. There is a lot of stuff that is free, in all the
senses of the term. In many cases it is as good as or better than the
commercial versions.
Please remember who you are talking to here and adjust your tone
accordingly.
Cheers,
Jonathan

Look in in the help function under "Regular Expressions" and you will
find that "\t" represents the tab character.

Hope this helps.

Can you please tell us how far you have gone with the install and give
more details about what you mean by "finish"? If you mean that you do
not see any icons on the desktop to start the program modules (eg.
Writer, Calc, etc.) you will not find any. Look under the "Start" menu.

Hope this helps.

Yes it is perfectly legal to use OOo (OpenOffice.org) in companies. You
can legally make as many copies as you wish and install OOo on any
number of computers without limitation.

You can read the licence conditions here:

[users] OpenOffice 2.0, concern

2007-06-09 Thread andrew wilson

I thank you in advance for your attention to this.
After loading the OpenOffice 2.0 software that my wife purchased for
$19.99,
I noticed on your website that a Free download is offered. Since the
software
was already opened, it was now nonreturnable to the retailer. The issue may
be obvious:
why should I buy it if you offer your product for free? I am more than
willing
to send you, the manufacturer, the opened software along with the sales
receipt in order to
get my money back. Again, I appreciate your prompt attention to this
matter.
Thank you,

Hi Cliff

Yes, they can live together very happily on the same drive.

A couple of points:

When installing OOo you will be asked if you want it to be the default
program for .doc, .xls etc. files. You may want to leave those boxes
unchecked.

OOo cannot work on the docx format files of MSOffice2007, so you will
need to use one of the earlier formats (XP, 97) if you are wanting to
exchange documents between the programs.

[users] XSLT to XSL-FO Filter?

2007-06-09 Thread Ramon Sole

Hello,

I'm involved in a project where we need to transform ODT files to XSL-FO.

The easiest way, AFAIK, would be to use a XSLT filter designed to do
that in OpenOffice.

I would appreciate very much any information of such a filter exists.

TIA

Best Regards,

Ramon
