[users] Write: How to make URLs clickable?

2007-12-19 Thread Dick Moores
I have a .txt file with a bunch of URLs. I want to paste the contents
into an .odt file and make the well-formed URLs clickable. How can I
do that, other that one-by-one placing the cursor at the end of a URL
and typing a space?

Thanks,

Why is that? If a person is supposedly smart enough to connect to the
internet and use ebay to bid on something, then they should be smart
enough to use a major search engine such as Google or Yahoo to look up
the information about the item that they are bidding on and buying.

Actually I've nothing against someone selling a download link to fools
as long as they support it afterwards. What burns me is when someone
sells a download link and then refers the fool to this list for support.

[users] Query on Macros

2007-12-19 Thread Jonathan F. [at gmail]
Greetings!

I read instructions and information about macros in OpenOffice at
http://www.tutorialsforopenoffice.org/tutorial/Macros.html

I was wondering if there's a way in which we create macros using
OpenOffice Writer, save it then export it as a certain filename... So
that we can just import such file to another OpenOffice Writer or
document which do not have the macro?

How do we do it if it's possible?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

Are you running OpenOffice?

It sounds to me as if you have a new Vista machine with a trial copy of
Microsoft Office 2007. The trial copy allows only 25 uses or so before
it demands you buy a licence and have to pay.

If you have a fast internet connection, can is suggest to go onto
www.openoffice.org and download the free OpenOffice from there. I am
using openoffice on Vista and it works very well.

I hope this helps and that your son will soon be able to e-mail us with

ISPs in Australia sell broadband plans with a data quota per month (eg,
12GB per month) before excess usage data fees get applied, or the speed
of the connection is shaped to near dial up speeds.

The later is quite popular, as many ISPs charge something like 15c per
MB excess fees.

This situation arises because the underlying ADSL infrastructure is
owned by a single carrier, who wholesale to the ISPs, and therefore
tends to dictate pricing policies.

I know you've got some answers that will work. Wanted to offer another
option.

Highlight the entire row by clicking the row number in the left margin. Now
whenever you press enter after typing something the cell pointer will move
to the next cell to the right.

When the row is first highlighted the cell pointer moves to the first column
that is displayed, e.g. if you've scrolled to the right so "M" is the first
visible column and highlight any row the cell pointer jumps to column "M"
for that row. If column "A" is the first visible column then the cell
pointer jumps to that column.

Press enter as many times as needed to get to the column you want to start
entering data into. Once you've completed your entry press enter and the
cell pointer jumps to the next cell to the right.

When you've completed your entries on the current row highlight the next row
that you want to edit and start over again.

Tested and works in OOo 2.3.1 on Windows XP Pro SP2 and on Ubuntu 7.10.

created the envelope as a new Document. When I go to print them it just
prints a single page and instead of the addressee it prints the field names

What step have I missed?

Isn't charging for a download link a violation of GPL? CD's have a real
cost to them, but to simply charge for something that's otherwise free
doesn't seem right.

Across the board, I'd say that the level oof net neutrality back then
was about the same as it today --- a few stupid firms (Comcast, AOL)
actively preventing people from using the Internet in a manner that
meets the consumers needs, but does meet the needs of the telcos that

Re: [users] sort all rows

A slightly simpler solution, IF the dataset is contiguous (no blank
columns or rows within it): Just select a single cell somewhere in the
data that you want to sort. When you select Data > Sort, Calc will
automatically select the entire range of data.

Again, this only works if your data set has no blank rows or columns.

Attached files usually don't make it through this list's spam filters.

Yours

didn't. To send us files, the best way is to put them on a web page and
provide details of the link and any reference numbers needed to access

them.

If you don't have a convenient web site, you can use www.mytempdir.com

which

is free.

Computer programs, of which macros are small examples, frequently don't

work

as intended ;-) However, it's difficult to differentation actual behaviour
from intention if one doesn't know the intention. Please, when you send

the

macros, also send a detailed explanation of what you are trying to do. You
may find your problem is already solved by one of the many publicly
available macros at http://www.pitonyak.org/oo.php or
http://www.ooomacros.org/ or, indeed, several other sites locatable via

any

well known search engine.

Hmmm... I've never heard of metered internet access. I have a cable
modem and pay the same amount every month. However, this is a good
argument for net neutrality.

Hi,

mike scott wrote:

So when creating a template,

I can't find anything in the help file that discusses the difference -
or indeed to suggest that the second approach gives a 'sticky'
template. (I finally found a short note at
http://www.windowsdevcenter.com/pub/a/windows/2004/08/24/openofficewrite

r.html
so it's obviously been around a while.)

thank you for bringing this to our attention. And thanks to Jean Hollis
Weber for her "sticky template" explanation.
I added this information to the "Opening Documents With Templates"
section in the help page that describes the File Open dialog in Writer
(shared/01/0102.xhp).

Hi Jonathan,

Interestingly this exact discussion is taking place at the forum also,
so the posts here caught my eye.

Hi Drew,
What forum?

Oh sorry, at the User Community Forum ( the web forum ), but in reality
the same subject comes up from time to time at OOoForum also.

The opinions are split pretty much - Some folks give a certain amount of
credence to idea that it is another form of viral marketing...I don't
quite buy into that idea, but I understand the thinking. Mostly it is
someone making a buck. I suppose at the end of the day they are selling
to people not likely to have found the free download on their own. Also,
I don't think they are actually selling download links, they are selling
a CD - a bit pricier then some of the other CD distributors perhaps.

Hell, who knows maybe the guy running that site actually contributes a
few bucks back to the pot. If he did it would have to be quiet, or at
least not mentioned at his site...would kinda hurt sales maybe..

So, does this guy really burn me...no - the guys on eBay that are
actually selling the web address for downloads...now that burns me up...
I made a suggestion at the forum that we might want to organize a letter
writing ( email ) campaign to eBay asking them to ban this type of
activity.
