2008-04-17 Thread Bud Oliver
I do hope that I am doing this correctly. I had a reply from NoOp as well
with about the same info as Twayne and I thank them both. I will go into
the situation in as much detail as I can but will not know all of the proper
terminology.

After installing OOo2.4 which replaced 2.3, I noticed that the icon on my
saved emails had changed to the OOo Writer icon but the icon was not as
sharp. When I tried to open a saved email a ASCII Filter Options opened,
Character set is Western Europe, clicking OK opens a Writer document with
many pages of letters and numbers (a short email message come out as four
pages)

I had a friends help with this next part.

Rh click on the saved email OOo Writer icon
Selected: Properties
Type of file: EML file
Opens with: OOo2.4
Clicked on Change
Opens With window opened
Recommended Programs OOo 2.4, it also showed OOo 1.1.4
looked under Other Programs but Outlook Express was not listed
Clicked on Browse
In Open with Look in Program files, clicked on Outlook Express
selected msimn and clicked open
Outlook Express is now in the Open with -other programs list and is
highlighted

Clicked OK
Now shows Open with Outlook Express and all of the saved emails have the
Outlook Express icon.

Now when I click on the saved email icon the regular Outlook Express opens
at the In Box and does not open the saved email.

What I am trying to do is to be able to have all of my presently saved
emails available so I can read them.

Thanks again for your help on this.

Bud

OOo2.4

I down loaded OOo2.4 and 2.4 is now the default to open saved email.
I've tried to have Outlook Express as the default but when I click on
the icon it just opens the program not the saved email. I have the
XP operating system.
Any ideas what is going on? I'm an old guy trying my best on the
computer.
Thanks,
Bud

I don't know why OOo is opening your saved emails unless you've set it to
do so and I don't even know if that's possible. Or; Are you saying that
clicking on the OE icon opens OOo? It sounds like either a file
association has been changed or the link for a shortcut has been damaged.
Neither should have been a result of installing OOo but strange things to
happen now and then.

Try explaining the problem again but replace the words it and the
program with specific names, etc., so it's a lot clearer what you mean.
It's probably a simple fix.

Outlook is a poor email program that causes many problems. You may be
happier with Thunderbird, which can be found at www.mozilla.org. While
you're there, you might also get Firefox, to use as a
 replacement for Internet Explorer.

Well, that's within about ten miles of the OP's question; and was a
waste of ether!
Please make comments/responses on-topic to the OPs needs.
