i whould also vote for equallogic support. or at least the possibility to
set iscsi configuration to "manual", which should include the possibility
to disable the "must use multipathd". not every iscsi san uses it...

That definitely makes sense. I hope your modifications will be integrated

Re: [Users] Dell EqualLogic and Ovirt

2013-10-25 Thread Martin Goldstone
Hi Dan,

I'm a colleague of Gary's, we've been working on this project together.

We've not had it working with the Dell HIT thus far. The python scripts in
VDSM that handle the iSCSI connections use iscsiadm to discover and login
to sessions so more extensive modifications would be needed to use ehcmcli
instead, and oVirt uses the normal device mapper devices under /dev/mapper,
whereas the HIT puts devices under /dev/eql and handles multipathing in
it's own way it seems. We've not tried extending it to work with the HIT
tools and devices partly because we wanted to keep the iSCSI side of things
here as close to standard as possible, and not have to treat the EqualLogic
stuff as too much of a special case.

Thanks,
Martin

Docker is meant for binary applications, it "virtualizes" an os

Hi,

I have an environment where the oat-server is on a Ubuntu, while
the compute hosts are CentOS servers.

I have installed the packages for the oat-server from the Ubuntu
repositories, and there is indeed a "ClientFiles" directory, but
but it lacks installation files (just the following:
endorsement.p12 install.bat lib OAT.properties OATprovisioner.properties
PrivacyCA.cer TrustStore.jks)

The questions are:
* are there packages for centos 6.4 available?
* how can the client files be generated by the oat-server?

cheers,
/Nicolae

Hey David.

Nice that it worked! Were you able to register to the Engine?

You can use the adminpw= and rootpw= kernel arguments to set passwords.
use
$ openssl passwd -salt 42
to create one or two passwords

One "nasty" secret of CoreOS is that they are using aufs - a fuse
overlay fs - and that's just not nice.
All this stuff requires a decent union-mount support.

Just my 2ct.

It is, in essence, LXC containers combined with an overlay filesystem.
It's basic PaaS with a Go binary ("docker") wrapped around LXC. It's
neat in the same sense as Vagrant -- you can ship a Dockerfile which can
reproduce your environment very easily, and the Docker team itself has
wrapped all the images in a git repository you can easily branch
from/etc. That said, Docker support won't land in Fedora until F20, and
CentOS around the same time (officially).

I'll admit that I don't get the hype around Docker, since it doesn't do
anything that LXC doesn't already do, but the templating and a
user-friendly binary is nice.

I wonder if there's interest in shipping oVirt docker containers.

I'm interested in Docker to ease the process of building Node images, at
least. oVirt Docker containers would be interesting, assuming LXC
support isn't painful, since the CoreOS (where Docker originated) also
relies on an image with readonly root and overlays on top, so there's
some overlap.

Well, the hook has some benefits over NIC profiles (you can tweak any
parameter of any vnic with no global definitions), so I am guessing that
some would like to keep using it.

I suppose that we should link to http://www.ovirt.org/Features/Vnic_Profiles
from the hook readme, so that people would think twice before starting
to use the hook.

I am afraid that we support only bridged connection. Implementing a hook
that provides fancier modes is a cool task.

persist this setting after reboot.

Hey,

do you know if the data in /var/lib/glusterd needs to survive reboots?
If not, then this patch http://gerrit.ovirt.org/20540 will probably fix

I'll ack this once you fix the typo in the summary (s/bar/var/)

Mike

the problem. The patch just adds that path to /etc/rwtab.d/ovirt - this
will tell the read-only root to make that path writable at boot.
Due to the nature of Node you will need to build your own image or wait
until the patch lands in an image. Editing the rwtab file by hand at
runtime won't have an effect.

Yey! :)
Yes, mount -oremount,rw make's the FS temporarily writeable. But you
will have issues as soon as you reboot.
We'll need to investigate which paths need to be persisted (so the data
written to them survives a reboot) and which only need to be write-able
e.g. for temporary data.

Would you mind opening a bug for this?

Greetings
fabian

Then I created volume (replication), added two bricks (oVirt nodes),
and started volume. Seems fine. I checkd on node1:

# gluster volume info

Volume Name: data_vol
Type: Replicate
Volume ID: a1cdc762-2198-47e2-9b4a-58fd0571b269
Status: Started
Number of Bricks: 1 x 2 = 2
Transport-type: tcp
Bricks:
Brick1: 192.168.254.124:/data/gluster
Brick2: 192.168.254.141:/data/gluster
Options Reconfigured:
storage.owner-gid: 36
storage.owner-uid: 36
auth.allow: *
user.cifs: on
nfs.disable: off

WORKING!

BUT... Now i can not create storage domain. When I hit OK button on
"New storage domain dialog", process is running very long. Eventually
this process stops and returns " Error while executing action Add
Storage Connection: Network error during communication with the
Host".

I'm stuck again :-( in need for HELP!

Could you please provide the logfiles mentioned here:

Acording to http://www.ovirt.org/Node_Glusterfs_Support glusterfs on

I installed ovirt (nested kvm - home testing) following "Up and Running

Install went well. Everything is working fine.

Now I created two hosts (nested kvm - ovirt node fc19 - just for
testing) and added them in oVirt.
Super fine - working!

Now I'd like to use this hosts as glustefs nodes too. Acording to google
(I'm googling for two days now) I'ts possible, but I can not find any
usable how-to

1. I removed these two hosts from default data center
2. I created new data center (type: GlusterFS)
3. I created new cluster (Enable Gluster Service checked)
4. I added host
5. Now I get error message in events: "Could not find gluster uuid of
server host1 on Cluster Cluster1."

If I ssh to my host (fc19 node) glusterd.service is not running. If I
try to run it It returns error

If anyone is having difficulty getting up and running this may be helpful:
