Re: [Users] Host installation failed. SSH session closed during connection (ovirt-node-iso-3.0.3-1.1.fc19)

2014-02-18 Thread Udaya Kiran P
Hi Nir,

I have tried approving the host after executing setenforce 0 on the host.

This time the error in the Management Events says - Installation Failed. Unable
to Parse the Host key.

What is causing this?

Thanks for your help.

Being able to login to the host using ssh is required for installing
a host, and required for soft-fencing feature. You should fix your host
configuration.

One direction I would check is selinux issues. Try to disabe selinux and check
if the login issue is fixed, and check /var/log/messages for selinux warnings
during the login.

Re: [Users] Storage Performance Issue !

2014-02-18 Thread Sander Grendelman
You give very little information about your setup and the problem.

- What kind of storage do you use? ( software or hardware raid? how
many spindles? what kind of disks?)
- Does it have battery backed cache? Is the battery on this cache OK?
- How much IO, with how much latency, is generated on the hosts? ( run
some diagnostics e.g. "iostat -mx 10" for a couple of minutes on a
host )
- How much IO, with how much latency, is generated on the VMs?
- Is IO on the host better than on the guest? How much? (test!)
- What is the storage type of the storage domain? ( local FS? iSCSI?
Fibre Channel? GlusterFS? )
- What type of IO controller do you use in the guest? ( IDE? virtio?
virtio-scsi? )
- Do you use thin- or thick provisioned disks?
- Do you use snapshots?

Looks really nice! Is the background canvas vectorized? Isn´t it going
to become rather slow loading such a big picture otherwise... And how is
it going to handle scaling of browser windows? How´d it look on smaller
resolutions e.g 960x640?

In case you aren´t aware, oVirt actually does that for a very good
reason. This way you can create _1_ template, then create _1000_ VM's,
and they´ll only take up the space of that single template, and then
build up on the changes that are "new" for each VM.

If you want to be able to still delete a template, I suggest you choose
to provision new VM's "cloned" from that template, instead of "thin".
You can however just rename it to something else like
"deprecated_template01" and leave it like that.

Otherwise your only option is to create a new disk for that VM, start it
up from a Live-CD and "dd" the operating disk over onto the new, then
delete the old disk, perhaps rename the new disk from "_Disk2" to
"_Disk1" instead and remember to mark it "Bootable". Repeat this process
for every VM that is thin provisioned from this template and then you
can finally delete the template.

I'm running virt-v2v-0.9.1-5.el6_5.x86_64. It actually makes it to 100% but
dies and says "Didn’t receive full volume"

We've had several reports of this bug from several sources, so we're aware of
it. Unfortunately we've never managed to reproduce it. We've analysed the code.
At the time of the failure, the virt-v2v is sitting in a small and very simple
loop, so it's unlikely, but not impossible, that the virt-v2v code is the
direct cause. It's also possible that it's a bug in a library used by virt-v2v,
but as we can't reproduce it we haven't been able to examine that possibility.
It's also possible that it isn't a local problem at all, and it's an issue with
the sender. In fact, if we discount a bug in an external library, this looks
quite likely.

In any case, this is happening quite reliably for you, but never happens on our
test systems. Assuming the software is the same, there's presumably a critical
difference in either the network or ESX configuration which triggers the bug.
Can you think of anything? The data is transferred in a single HTTP
transaction. Could there be some network management which kills the connection
at 7% of the total disk size? What is 7% of the total disk size? Is it some
magic figure which might correspond with a value in a configuration file
somewhere?

The other place we've asked people to look, so far without success, is on the
ESX server itself. Is there anything in the logs about the terminated
connection? Unfortunately I don't know which ESX service is responsible for
serving this data, so I can't offer any specific pointers. If you can ask
somebody on your VMware team, we use the web interface to the datastore browser
to retrieve the information.

If you can help us get to the bottom of this we'd be very grateful.

Thanks,

Matt

Why is there so much open real estate on the pre-login pages? Maybe use the
middle rather than the lower 1/3 of the page. Other than that it looks
great. Nice update

Re: [Users] eninge-cleanup left db non-empty (was: Downgrading to 3.3.3 after 3.4.0 beta 2 testing)

2014-02-18 Thread Trey Dockendorf
I just tried same steps with 3.4.0-beta2 and got same results.

Performed full 'engine-cleanup' and a engine-backup --mode=restore
failed with "FATAL: Database is not empty"

$ su - postgres -c "pg_dump engine | grep -i ^create"
CREATE PROCEDURAL LANGUAGE plpgsql;

After the failed restore the following two commands were enough to
allow restore to run.

$ su - postgres -c "dropdb engine"
$ su - postgres -c "psql -c \"create database engine owner engine
template template0 encoding 'UTF8' lc_collate 'en_US.UTF-8' lc_ctype
'en_US.UTF-8'\""

Re: [Users] Asking for advice on hosted engine

2014-02-18 Thread Ted Miller

On 2/17/2014 4:20 AM, Giorgio Bersano wrote:

Hello everybody,
I discovered oVirt a couple of months ago when I was looking for the
best way to manage our small infrastructure. I have read any document
I considered useful but I would like to receive advice from the many
experts that are on this list.

I think it worths an introduction (I hope doesn't get you bored).

I work in a small local government entity and I try to manage
effectively our limited resources.
We have many years of experience with Linux and especially with CentOS
which we have deployed on PC (i.e. for using as firewall in remote
locations) and moreover on servers.

We have been using Xen virtualization from the early days of CentOS 5
and we have built our positive experience on KVM too.
I have to say that libvirt in a small environment like ours is really
a nice tool.
So nothing to regret.

Trying to go a little further, as already said, I stumbled upon oVirt
and I've found the project intriguing.

At the moment we are thinking of deploying it on a small environment
of four very similar servers each having:
- a couple of Xeon E5504
- 6 x 1Gb ethernet interfaces
- 40 GB of RAM
two of them have 72 GB of disk (mirrored)
two of them have almost 500GB of useful RAID array

Moreover we have an HP iSCSI storage that should easily satisfy our
current storage requirement.

So, given our small server pool, the necessity of another host just to
run the supervisor seems a requirement too high.

Enter "hosted engine" and the picture takes brighter colors. Well, I'm
usually not the adventurous guy but after experimenting a little with
oVirt 3.4 I developed better confidence.
We would want to install the engine over the two hosts with smaller disks.

For what I know, installing hosted engine mandates NFS storage. But we
want this to be highly available too, and possibly to have it on the
very same hosts.

Here is my solution: make a gluster replicated volume across the two
hosts and take advantage of that NFS server.
Then I put 127.0.0.1 as the address of the NFS server in the
hosted-engine-setup so the host is always able to reach the storage
server (itself).
GlusterFS configuration is done outside of oVirt that, regarding
engine's storage, doesn't even know that it's a gluster thing.

Relax, we've finally reached the point where I'm asking advice :-)

Storage and virtualization experts, do you see in this configuration
any pitfall that I've overlooked given my inexperience in oVirt,
Gluster, NFS or clustered filesystems?
Do you think that not only it's feasable (I know it is, I made it and
it's working now) but it's also reliable and dependable and I'm not
risking my neck on this setup?

I've obviously made some test but I'm not at the confidence level of
saying that all is right in the way it is designed.

OK, I think I've already written too much, better I stop and humbly
wait for your opinion but I'm obviously here if any clarification by
my part is needed.

Thank you very much for reading until this point.
Best Regards,
Giorgio.

Giorgio,

Gluster on two hosts only is not a good idea. Installed for high reliability
(quorum activated), gluster requires that >50% of the nodes be working before
anything can be written. When you have only two nodes, that means both nodes
must be up before anything can happen.

You can turn off quorum, but then you are almost guaranteeing yourself a
split-brain headache the first time communication between the two hosts is
interrupted, even briefly (been there, done that). Ovirt is constantly
writing to the storage, so if they are not communicating you WILL get
different things written to the same files in both servers, especially the
sanlock files. This is called split-brain, and it will give you a splitting
headache.

For replicated gluster to work well, you need a minimum of three gluster
nodes in replica mode. Two nodes is a recipe for unhappiness. It is either
low-availability (quorum on) or a split-brain waiting to spring on you
(quorum off). You don't want either one.

Figure out how to use some storage on some third computer to provide a third
gluster node. That way only two of the three have to be working for things
to keep working.

Yes, that's a valid point (however it _should_ be set to 'Guest Agent' by
default).

To sum it up, SSO should happen (on the engine side) if all these conditions
are true:
- user is connecting via userportal (not webadmin),
- guest agent presence is reported to engine,
- state of VM is strictly "Up"
- VM has SSO method set to "Guest agent" (Itamar's mail).

If these conditions are fulfilled and SSO still doesn't work, there must be
something wrong with the engine (or with reporting GA presence).

Also VmLogon command should print some information to engine's log - could you
take a look?

Cheers,
Franta.

One other interesting fact is that each node has 4 NFS mountpoints. 2 (data

legacy SAN.

When this issue occurs, the only mountpoint in a problem state seem to be
the 2 mountpoints to the main SAN:

Which oVirt version are you using?
I see that there are a few old bugs that describes the same behaviour, but

[Users] Yum Installation Problems (ovirt 3.3, CentOS 6.5)

2014-02-18 Thread Jon Forrest
I have a brand new CentOS 6.5 x86_64 installation with all the updates
as of today installed.
I want to create a test All-In-One node, so I follow the documentation and run

 yum install epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm
 yum localinstall http://ovirt.org/releases/ovirt-release-el.noarch.rpm

These work fine. I then run

yum install ovirt-engine-setup-plugin-allinone -y

and I get

Error: Package: libvirt-lock-sanlock-0.10.2-29.el6_5.3.x86_64 (updates)
   Requires: libsanlock_client.so.1()(64bit)
Error: Package: libvirt-lock-sanlock-0.10.2-29.el6_5.3.x86_64 (updates)
   Requires: sanlock >= 2.4
Error: Package: vdsm-4.13.3-3.el6.x86_64 (ovirt-3.3.3)
   Requires: sanlock >= 2.3-4
Error: Package: vdsm-4.13.3-3.el6.x86_64 (ovirt-3.3.3)
   Requires: sanlock-python

Is this expected? What's weird is that IIRC I did the same thing last
week without problems.
Should I just grab newer versions of libvirt?

Thanks,
Jon Forrest

The downloads seem to be too prominent on the first screen, my eyes are
drawn to it instead of the portals. This may be due to the circle in the

The 404 page "click here to continue", continue to where? Maybe should
be "Click here to return home?"

The login page would ideally have an identifying mark of which portal it
is for.

The horizontal scroll is disappointing on the user portal. I don't think
"Number of cores" should be larger than ALL other headings on the page.

Good work, excited to see it.

The body of the method:

that's for the user/password to join the domain, not to set the admin
password of the machine.
Tejesh - you can set this password for all machines via the config
though. but for per-machine, you'd need to:

1. open an RFE.
2. workaround: pass the entire syspref.inf file as a floppy payload
(hmmm, i can't remember if we support floppy payload or not)

This is suppose to be the equivalent to to RunOnce
For more fields and option look at the rsdl file:
http://[HOST]:[PORT]/api?rsdl

you can use windows sysprep, which ovirt supports.
but that's not cloud-init.
iirc, there is some cloud-init compatibility package for windows

Supposing you're targeting 3.4.0,
We're postponing RC by one week for fixing remaining blockers.
I sent an update today to this schedule.

The repo has been uploaded for integration testing, and it failed so we did not
announce it.
We're going to respin it.
We'll announce 3.4.0 beta3 once it passes our tests, please be patient :-)

You suppose to run it via the API as you run regular VM (start action) and set
the values in
the body:
do a PUT method to:
http://[HOST]:[PORT]/api/vms/[VM-GUID]/start

The body of the method:

..
...

This is suppose to be the equivalent to to RunOnce
For more fields and option look at the rsdl file:
http://[HOST]:[PORT]/api?rsdl

Re: [Users] SSO from user portal to Windows 7 guest

2014-02-18 Thread Itamar Heim

On 02/18/2014 03:36 PM, SimmInfo wrote:

Ok,

I tested it on a 3.4 beta2. Build a VM (win7 32) check "Guest agent" as SSO
option in vm config.

Same result as the 3.3.3 engine. No sso but lock screen on spice session
termination.

Nothing in engine.log about VmLogon nor Guest agent reportion to the engine but
Admin portal populated with vm ip, user connected, ip of the connected user
(very useful info), installed app, etc.

Is there another way to know if the agent is correctly reporting to the engine?

Will test today with a fedora host.

just to make sure - did you notice the important point of SSO only works
if you login from the user portal, not from the webadmin?

Thanks!

My test config :

Engine 3.4 beta2 on CentOS 6.5
Node CentOS 6.5 with vdsm from prerelease repo.
Storage iscsi

Cheers,
Franta.

/tmp/handler_num.txt; sleep 1; done

When it'll happen again, please stop the script, and write here the maximum
number and the time that it happened.

Also, please check if "process_pool_max_slots_per_domain" is defined in
/etc/vdsm/vdsm.conf, and if so, what's the value? (if it's not defined there,
the default is 10)

Thanks!

[Users] Postponing 3.4.0 RC and test day

2014-02-18 Thread Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,
we're postponing 3.4.0 RC build and test day to next week due to recent
blockers opened on 3.4.0.
We actually have bug count 361 out of which 19 urgent, 64 high.
We're going to build a 3.4.0 beta3 later today once
Bug 1066466 - Disk name doesn't get assigned automatically after a CREATE
command.
will be fixed.

Re: [Users] oVirt upcoming release schedule update

2014-02-18 Thread Jorick Astrego
Hi Maurice,

It appears the beta3 rpm's are already uploaded but I had to add the
following to the ovirt.repo to enable the updates:

[ovirt-3.4.0-beta3]
name=Beta3 builds of the oVirt project
baseurl=http://ovirt.org/releases/3.4.0-beta3/rpm/Fedora/$releasever/
enabled=1
skip_if_unavailable=1
gpgcheck=0
http://resources.ovirt.org/releases/3.4.0-beta3/

Kind regards,

Jorick Astrego

Re: [Users] SSO from user portal to Windows 7 guest

2014-02-18 Thread SimmInfo

Thanks!

My test config :

Engine 3.4 beta2 on CentOS 6.5
Node CentOS 6.5 with vdsm from prerelease repo.
Storage iscsi

[Users] SD Disk's Logical Volume not visible/activated on some nodes

2014-02-18 Thread Boyan Tabakov
Hello,

I have ovirt 3.3 installed on on FC 19 hosts with vdsm 4.13.3-2.fc19.
One of the hosts (host1) is engine + node + SPM and the other host2 is
just a node. I have an iSCSI storage domain configured and accessible
from both nodes.

When creating a new disk in the SD, the underlying logical volume gets
properly created (seen in vgdisplay output on host1), but doesn't seem
to be automatically picked by host2. Consequently, when creating/booting
a VM with the said disk attached, the VM fails to start on host2,
because host2 can't see the LV. Similarly, if the VM is started on
host1, it fails to migrate to host2. Extract from host2 log is in the
end. The LV in question is 6b35673e-7062-4716-a6c8-d5bf72fe3280.

As far as I could track quickly the vdsm code, there is only call to lvs
and not to lvscan or lvchange so the host2 LVM doesn't fully refresh.
The only workaround so far has been to restart VDSM on host2, which
makes it refresh all LVM data properly.

When is host2 supposed to pick up any newly created LVs in the SD VG?
Any suggestions where the problem might be?

Thanks!

Re: [Users] Nodes lose storage at random

2014-02-18 Thread Johan Kooijman
To follow up on this: The setup has only ~80 VM's active right now. The 2
bugreports are not in scope for this setup, the issues occur at random,
even when there's no activity (create/delete VM's) and there are only 4
directories in /rhev/data-center/mnt/.

Re: [Users] Nodes lose storage at random

2014-02-18 Thread Johan Kooijman
Meital,

I'm running the latest stable oVirt, 3.3.3 on Centos 6.5. For my nodes I
use the node iso CentOS 6 "oVirt Node - 3.0.1 - 1.0.2.el6".

I have no ways of reproducing just yet. I can confirm that it's happening
on all nodes in the cluster. And every time a node goes offline, this error
pops up.

Could the fact that lockd & statd were not running on the NFS host cause
this error? Is there a workaround available that we know of?

Meaning that vdsm was restarted.

Which oVirt version are you using?
I see that there are a few old bugs that describes the same behaviour, but with
different reproduction steps, for example [1], [2].
Can you think of any reproduction steps that might be causing this issue?

Re: [Users] Python SDK - VNIC profiles collection is missing under root - issue solved

2014-02-18 Thread Genadi Chereshnya

I found out that my PYTHONPATH was directing to outdated sources (cloned from
an early version),
therefore the rpms were hidden.

Once, I unset the PYTHONPATH, the issue was solved and the correct SDK package
was used.

Thanks,
Genadi

Subject: [Users] Python SDK - VNIC profiles collection is missing under root

Hi,

We installed the new ovirt-engine-sdk-python from Fedora repo - version
3.3.0.7-1.fc20
The VNIC profile collection was missing under API root.
Installing it from nightly (version
ovirt-engine-sdk-python-3.5.0.0-1.20140211.git61ac75b.fc20.noarch) had the same
result.

According to changelog (http://wiki.ovirt.org/Python-sdk-changelog) it was
supposed to work from 3.3.0.4-1
Last time it was working was on 3.3.3-0.1 version.

Thanks,
Genadi

Re: [Users] Guest Agent for SLES 11 SP3

Hello,

Sorry this is a bit misleading. SLES SP3 was attempted but I still have
to solve some issues. So SLES is currently not finished. There are
package for OpenSUSE though.

The repository for it is here:

I hope I will soon find time again to resume to work on this.

Thanks.

Re: [Users] Storage Performance Issue !

2014-02-18 Thread Dafna Ron
what is the network configuration? are you using each host with it's own
cluster/DC as a local storage host?
how many hosts are we talking about? what is the memory/cpu consumption
on the hosts?

I am using Dell PowerEdge XD 720 servers, as node in Ovirt.
Every node has 24TB storage space, so i am using all this

problem in storgae performance. My guests os are very slow to
write the data.

So please give me, some tips using them i can increase the

[Users] Confused about Gluster usage

2014-02-18 Thread Martijn Grendelman
Hi,

I have been running oVirt 3.3.3 with a single node in a NFS type data
center. Now, I would like to set up a second node. Both nodes have
plenty of storage, but they're only connected to each other over 1 Gbit.
I'm running nodes on CentOS 6.5.

What I would like to accomplish is:

* use a Gluster-backed DATA domain on my existing NFS datacenter
* load balancing by even spread of VMs over the two nodes
* leveraging the speed of local storage, so running a VM over NFS to the
other node is undesireable

So I was thinking I want the storage to be replicated, so that I can
take a node down for maintenance without having to migrate all the
storage to another node.

I was thinking: GlusterFS.

But I am confused on how to set it up. I understand I cannot use the
libgfapi native integration due to dependency problems on CentOS. I have
set up a replicated Gluster volume manually.

How can I use my two nodes with this Gluster volume? What are the
necessary steps?

I did try a couple of things; most notably I was able to create a 2nd
data center with POSIX storage, and mount the Gluster volume there, but
that doesn't work for the first node.

Alternatively, it would also be fine to migrate all existing VMs to the
POSIX datacenter and then move the existing node from the old NFS data
center to the new POSIX data center. Is that possible without
exporting/importing all the VMs?

Cheers,
Martijn.
